Kimpton Shane Hotel in Midtown, Atlanta is as hip, down to earth, warm and friendly, lovely and aesthetically pleasing a hotel as I’ve ever been in. I was instantly greeted by the parking valet who already knew who I was and who I was there to see. Upon entering the chic hotel filled with many different and eclectic pieces of art along the walls, I felt like I was at home, or at a close friend’s house. The environment was so welcoming and warm there was no lack of southern hospitality at The Shane Kimpton Hotel and I’m so glad I came to tour and view.

5

I was invited to tour Kimpton Shane by The General Manager of the hotel Andrew Funt. Andrew has an extensive background in the hospitality industry. He has a classic American “hard working your way up the ladder” to a success type of story. His mother was the Director of Catering at a hotel in South Florida where he grew up and you could say hospitality runs in his family. Andrew got his start in management as the Executive Housekeeper with his own staff and crew to run. From Florida to Colorado to Atlanta, Andrew has seen it all in this industry, he embodies the warmth and friendliness you’d expect from a General Manager of a new hotel in a bustling city like Atlanta.

We chatted a bit about his goals for the Shane hotel. He told me that it’s all about the luxurious lifestyle, he aims to be an approachable General Manager- which he is. Andrew wants Kimpton Shane to stand out with excellent service and not just “check off a box” of things it should be as a luxury hotel. He told me “You have to believe in what you do!” and I can tell that he believes in himself and his staff- which he explained to me that it starts with a healthy and happy staff and workplace, if you don’t have that you don’t have anything.

6

After Andrew gave me a tour of the hotel, with amazing guest rooms, meeting rooms and conference areas, we then took a peek into the Hartley Kitchen and Cocktails restaurant and the cocktail lounge Aveline. All I can say is “Wow!”.. You must see for yourself to appreciate this destination hotel in a distinctively unique location and hot spot that has something for everyone- including pup owners at this Dog friendly hotel in the heart of Midtown Atlanta. Accessibility in the Art District, The Shane Hotel is just steps away from The Woodruff Arts Center, Center for Puppetry Arts, many shops, offices and booming businesses. You can enjoy cocktails and bites of food at the daily cocktail and social hour at the hotel from 5-6pm. The Kimpton Shane hotel has so much to offer, in my opinion it’s one of the best hotels in Atlanta. If you don’t believe me, you should come and see for yourself.

IKE Smart City Unveils Citywide Public Art Exhibition on IKE Digital Kiosks IKE Smart City, in collaboration with curator Karen Comer Lowe, presents So Fresh,So Clean (ATL), a dynamic art exhibition that will be showcased on 30 digital kiosks across Atlanta from September 1 to November 18, 2023. Marking Hip Hop's 50th Anniversary, the initiative reverberates with a profound tribute to Atlanta's pivotal role in shaping the genre's evolution. The exciting partnership with Lowe reflects IKE Smart City's longstanding commitment to enrich communities through the production and presentation of diverse public art. IKE digital kiosk networks in cities across the country regularly display transformative creative works as part of the programming mix to expand the reach of cultural content in the public realm. "Leveraging our media platform to activate and amplify creative voices is at the heart of our mission," says Corey Favor, Sr. Director of Community Engagement of IKE Smart City. "This exhibition highlights the power of artistic expression and its lasting impact on the world around us. We are honored to celebrate the legacy of Hip Hop in the City of Atlanta." Atlanta's contribution to Hip Hop is often underappreciated in the larger conversation. The city has produced numerous successful and influential musical artists who created a global shift in Hip Hop music. So Fresh, So Clean (ATL) recognizes these artists with a showcase of works by celebrated photographers across the United States 9

So Fresh, So Clean (ATL) celebrates the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop & recognizes Atlanta's significant influence on the genre.

In the 1990s, Outkast, composed of Andre 3000 and Big Boi, helped put Atlanta on the map as a hotbed of musical talent. The groundbreaking duo achieved critical acclaim for merging funk, soul, and Southern cultural elements to create a unique approach to Hip Hop. Outkast's widespread influence led to the meteoric rise of artists like T.I. and Gucci Mane in the 2000s, further catapulting Atlanta into a Hip Hop epicenter. T.I.'s commercial triumphs and Gucci Mane's transformative trap sound were integral in shaping the genre's trajectory.

The trap sound, characterized by heavy basslines, 808 drums, and often dark and gritty lyrical themes, resonated with audiences and quickly spread nationwide and globally. Atlanta has continued to produce numerous successful artists, further solidifying the city's impact on Hip Hop culture. Notable acts such as Future, Migos, Lil Baby, and many others have all added to the city's legacy in shaping modern Hip Hop.

CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE — Songbirds Guitar & Pop Culture Museum has recently opened five new celebrity guitar exhibits featuring Dolly Parton, Richard Lloyd of Television, Simon Tam of The Slants, as well as a newly-redesigned expanded display of Duane Allman's famous 1961 Gibson Les Paul/SG. 17

The other new exhibits showcase Richard Lloyd's 1961 Fender Telecaster that he played on all three Television albums and during the band's iconic shows at CBGB, as well as Simon Tam's 2008 Fender Jaguar bass. Tam is the founder and bassist of The Slants and is famous for winning a 2017 landmark case in the U.S. Supreme Court, helping to expand civil liberties for marginalized groups.

"We're always trying to keep our exhibits fresh for new and returning visitors," said Reed Caldwell, Songbirds' Executive Director. "Songbirds is super excited for folks to check out these amazing artifacts that tell important stories that have helped define popular music. We're eternally grateful to Dollywood Productions, as well as Simon Tam, George Fontaine Family, and Richard Lloyd for loaning us these beautiful artifacts." What is Impact100? Impact100 is a successful global philanthropy model created by Wendy Steele in 2001 in Cincinnati, Ohio. The concept is simple and powerful: gather at least 100 women who each donate $1,000, with the goal of significantly impacting local organizations. There are now more than 65 Impact100 chapters around the world that have awarded more than $123 million in grants to worthy non-profits in their local communities. After 20 years of proven success in other communities, this innovative philanthropy model has come to Atlanta. In 2022, Impact100 Atlanta’s inaugural year, 130 visionary women joined together as Founding Members to collectively fund a $130,000 high impact grant to a local nonprofit. Our goal is to reach 300 members in 2023 so we can fund transformational projects in three separate focus areas to benefit the Atlanta community.
