Adopt, Adapt and Improve
While the past couple of years have been some of the most challenging in the industry’s history, there are dry cleaners who have not only managed to survive the twists and turns of the pandemic but are actually seeing better profitability than ever before.
Their secret?
In 1927, Edward, Prince of Wales, gave a speech to a group of young professionals. During his presentation, he said the following: “The young business and professional men of this country must get together round the table, adopt methods that have proved so sound in the past, adapt them to the changing needs of the times and wherever possible, improve them.”
“Adopt, adapt and improve” has been the mindset of those professionals in our industry who are currently winning.
Part of this strategy has been to continue to provide the quality and value that their customers have come to expect from the relationship. Another element for success has been to offer services that their customers want (or in some cases, now demand) that they might not have provided in the past. To adapt to these new conditions, these cleaners had to break out of old habits and search for new ways to do business.
This issue, our annual Buyer’s Guide, is designed to help you adapt and improve. Browse through the categories you’ve always used, and then take a look at some you might have skipped in the past because they weren’t relevant to your business — at the time. What didn’t interest you before might grab your attention today. Have you kept the status quo, or are you offering new services to your customers? Make sure you’re using the vendors and service professionals who will benefit you most in your efforts. These are rough times — make sure you have someone backing you up with what you need.
