New and improved Inceptor Omni downlight from Ovia
Ovia has taken its popular Inceptor Omni fire-rated, tri-colour, dimmable downlight and made a number of significant improvements to enhance its overall performance.
First launched in 2017 as part of Ovia’s premium Inceptor product range, Inceptor Omni has proved a popular choice for installers thanks to the ease of installation and flexibility it offers. It incorporates Ovia’s award-winning Flameguard system technology and is I-joist rated for 30, 60 and 90 minutes.
Retaining all the qualities of the original version, the new Omni V2 now boasts a recess depth of just 53mm, thanks to the Flow integrated driver, which means there is no need for an insulation bracket. Omni V2 is supplied with push-fit Flow connectors which feature push-in, low maintenance terminals to offer another time-saving benefit for installers. With the driver now incorporated into the Flow connector, this means that insulation can be laid over the fitting.
Among other key features is a CTA (colour temperature adjustable) switch – a built-in, three position switch which allows for instant change of the colour temperature. The lumen output has been increased, up from 500lm on the original version, to 600lm for Omni V2 and it now offers an improved 60° beam angle with all colour temperature selections. The faceted front lens has also been increased, now measuring 49mm.
Omni V2 offers the option for a fixed bezel (IP65 rated) or adjustable bezel (IP54 rated) in one fitting. It comes with the fixed bezel in a white finish as standard. The adjustable version and other finishes –chrome, satin chrome and black – can be bought separately. A simple twist and lock feature means the bezel can be quickly and easily replaced.
Omni V2 comes with a five-year warranty.

Halve the installation time
Inceptor Omni V2 is supplied pre-wired with push-fit Flow connectors which feature push-in, low maintenance terminals. In a speed test carried out by Ovia, installation times were compared for these fast fit connectors versus the equivalent screw terminal versions and typically the fast-fit versions were completed in around half the time.
Compliance in all ceiling types
Ovia’s full range of Inceptor and Flameguard fire-rated downlights have always been subject to the strictest test measures to ensure they offer full compliance and have the corresponding test certification to meet the very latest regulations. As such, they have all been tested for fire resistance compliance with all ceiling types – solid timber, I-joists and metal web joists.
With the increasing use of I-joists as part of floor construction – around 70% of newbuild homes feature engineered timber joists, as opposed to solid timber joists which dominated the market 20 years ago – the National Housebuilding Council (NHBC) updated its technical guidance on recessed light fittings in ceilings to intermediate floors in houses. As a result, the NHBC now requires test evidence showing that recessed downlights are suitable for a similar I-joist and plasterboard combination.
Ovia successfully completed further fire resistance testing to demonstrate that its fire-rated downlights satisfy the guidelines issued by the NHBC. The testing was carried out by Efectis – a major player in fire science, covering all fire safety expertise in testing and modelling, certification and inspection around the world. The new test consisted of a 30 minute I-joist construction –220mm I-joist; 15mm type A plasterboard and 22mm floor deck (which Ovia believes to be the most common construction types now used within the industry). All firerated downlights from the Ovia Inceptor and Flameguard ranges formed part of the test.
To help you understand the issues around testing, Ovia has produced a CPD training module – ‘Downlights and Testing for Fire Rating’, and this is available for delivery on request.
