Plug in the smart speaker, download the app, instant smart home, right? Wrong! obviously, but try telling that to the people who map this stuff. According to Statista, 7 in every 10 UK homes will be ‘smart’ by 2025, and although this prediction is a travesty of justice for the CEDIA tradition, it’s by no means a disaster. I’m new to Habitech, but not to lighting control. For the last 15 years I’ve been immersed in lighting design and development from planning to commissioning, as both senior engineer and product manager, having oversight of all aspects of quality control involving a range of lighting systems, including Lutron. As Habitech’s new lighting specialist I’ll be leading the training and backup for the HomeWorks Wireless platform, which offers the ability to deploy over six decades of proven design sophistication, while retaining the convenience of RF installation and smart App-based control. UP TO 600 WIRELESS DEVICES ON A SINGLE NETWORK

Akin in principle to Lutron’s entry-level RA2 Select system, HomeWorks Wireless uses a system of main processor and RF repeaters, which deploy the company’s bulletproof ‘Clear Connect’ RF technology to extend the operational range of wireless dimmers, keypads, shades and sensors. Like RA2 Select, it uses a ‘Connect Bridge’, which is wired via ethernet to the home’s network, enabling the App control of lighting, window treatments and designed ‘scene’ combinations of artificial and natural light. However, unlike its entry-level progeny, which has a capacity of 100 devices, HomeWorks Wireless offers integrators the full creative endowment of up to 600 wireless devices on a single system.

PROGRAMMING VERSATILITY

It’s not just the scale of control available, but the quality as well. Replacing basic single-press programming on a smart device, HomeWorks Wireless offers you the freedom to apply ‘If this, then that’ Conditional Logic (variables and conditionals) as well as Time-Of-Day (TOD) logic via PC software, and more effective Control Logic for sensor inputs. It also endows your virtuosity with a greater choice of single action, toggle, double tap, long press control outcomes. For instance, it’s possible to assign a single action to recall a level for a zone or a scene for an area, or toggle between two states such as scene 1/scene 2, lock/unlock device. Associate further commands with double tap and long press actions to exploit the system’s rich control repertoire.
