As a condition of employment, all hired applicants are required to attend a preseason staff training session. The training date and location will be announced at a later date. NOTICE The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) child labor provisions are designed to protect educational opportunities of minors and prohibit their employment in jobs and under conditions detrimental to their health or well-being. BALLFIELD CONCESSION ATTENDANTS Spring/Summer/Fall Applications accepted February-March Minimum Qualifications: 16 years of age; previous cash handling and concession equipment experience preferred; public relations skills; good hygiene. Pay: $7.35-$8.20 per hour. Responsibilities: Preparation and sale of food and beverage products at Parks and Recreation concession facilities at ball fields and some special events; inventory; accurately dealing with large sums of money; greeting public and providing a favorable first impression; clean-up of equipment and facilities. Hours: Approximately 5:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday; as well as some weekends - HOURS VARY.
BASKETBALL OFFICIALS (2-10) Winter Employment Applications accepted August-October Minimum Qualifications: 19 years of age for adult programs, 17 years for youth games; thorough knowledge of National Federation basketball rules; understanding of officiating mechanics; dependable, conscientious, consistent, willing to hustle; MSHSAA certification strongly preferred; membership in a recognized officials’ association preferred. Pay: $8.50 - $10.50 for youth basketball games; $12.75 - $16.25 for high school basketball; $16.00 - $17.00 for adult basketball games. Responsibilities: Referee youth and/or adult basketball; represent Parks and Recreation in a positive, professional manner; handle game-related problems with players, coaches, or fans. Hours: Youth games are generally on Saturday mornings and Tuesday and Thursday evenings; adult games are Sunday through Thursday evenings depending upon gym availability. 5th grade basketball begins in November, 6th grade basketball begins in February, High School basketball begins in early January and Adult basketball begins in December.

Pay: $7.50 - $8.00 per game. Responsibilities: Keep score and all pertinent game records at high school and/or adult basketball games; represent Parks and Recreation in a positive, professional, friendly manner. Hours: High school games begin in January and continue through March; adult games begin in December and continue through March; evenings vary depending upon gym availability.
FLAG FOOTBALL OFFICIALS (8-12) Fall Employment Applications accepted May-June Minimum Qualifications: 17 years of age preferred; knowledgeable in the rules of football; previous officiating experience preferred. Pay: $9.45 - $10.85 per game. Responsibilities: Officiate youth, 1st – 4th grades (NFL Flag) and/or 5th grade flag football games; represent Parks and Recreation in a positive, professional manner; handle game-related problems with players, coaches and fans. Days/Hours: 5th grade games – Monday. NFL Flag games – Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings (approximately 5:45 – 9:00 p.m.) and/or Saturday mornings (9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.) and Sunday evening (approximately 4:00 – 8:00 p.m.).
SLOW-PITCH SOFTBALL/KICKBALL UMPIRES Spring/Summer/Fall Employment Applications accepted February-July Minimum Qualifications: 18 years of age preferred; ASA certification preferred. Pay: Slow-Pitch Softball: $12.25-$16.25 per game; depending on certification and experience. Kickball: $13.00 per game Responsibilities: Umpire and record score at adult slow pitch softball/kickball games using the one-umpire system; administer games in a professional and responsible manner according to Parks and Recreation guidelines. Hours: Monday through Thursday evenings.
START SMART STAFF (4) Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter Employment Minimum Qualifications: 18 years of age preferred; teaching/coaching experience preferred; basic knowledge of soccer, football, basketball, golf, and/or baseball fundamentals required; First Aid and CPR certification preferred. Pay: Leader: $7.70 - $9.15 per hour; Staff: $7.35-$8.20 per hour. Responsibilities: Help parents teach their children (ages 3-7) the motor skills necessary to achieve success and confidence needed for organized sports; help create a positive first time sports experience. Pay: $12 per game and set up/take down pay Responsibilities: Umpire games; teach baseball/softball fundamental skills to boys and girls ages 5-8; develop enthusiasm and sportsmanship; enlist the assistance of parents and monitor their involvement. Hours: Sunday through Friday evenings, 4:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Program starts late May and runs through the end of July.

Responsibilities: Officiate and record score of adult and youth volleyball matches (indoor and sand); administer games in a professional and responsible manner according to Parks and Recreation guidelines. YOUTH BASEBALL/SOFTBALL UMPIRE (15+) Spring/Summer Employment Applications accepted January-March Minimum Qualifications: 17 years of age preferred, MSHSAA or USSSA certification preferred for Recreational Leagues, required for competitive leagues; previous umpiring experience preferred. Pay: $14.00 - $28.00 per game; depending upon certification and level of play. Responsibilities: Umpire youth baseball games for ages 8-18 and/or softball games for ages 8-18; represent Parks and Recreation in a positive, professional manner; handle game-related problems with players, coaches, and fans. Hours: Games Monday through Friday, 5:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. and some weekend tournaments beginning at 9:00 a.m. Spring competitive leagues begin the week of April 4.
GOLF COURSE GOLF COURSE CLUBHOUSE ATTENDANTS (2) Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter Employment Applications accepted February-August Minimum Qualifications: Minimum 16 years of age; experience in golf, merchandising, and concession/food preparation preferred; adaptable schedule and strong “people” skills required; ability to lift at least 30 lbs. Pay: $7.35 - $8.20 per hour. Responsibilities: Customer service, clubhouse cleanliness and appearance; enforcement of facility policies; cash register and concession equipment operation; sale of golf equipment; operation of driving range and more. Hours: Golf Course is open seven days a week, weather permitting. The course opens between 6:30 – 9:30 a.m. depending on the time of year and closes at dark.
GOLF PROGRAM INSTRUCTORS Spring/Summer Employment Applications accepted February-May Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of 18 years of age preferred; teaching/coaching experience preferred; basic knowledge of fundamental golf skills required; ability to teach those skills to children 8-15 years of age; first aid and CPR certification desirable. PROGRAM LEADER (1-2) Pay: $8.00-$9.60 per hour. Responsibilities: Plan, coordinate and implement instructional golf programs for youth 8-15; supervise program staff. STAFF (5-6) Pay: $7.50-$8.60 per hour. Responsibilities: Teach children fundamental golf skills, proper golf etiquette and course management in instructional program settings; help develop enthusiasm and good sportsmanship. Hours: Program times will vary between 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and may require some evenings.
ICE ARENA ICE ARENA ASSISTANT MANAGER (1-4) Fall/Winter/Spring Employment Applications accepted June-August Minimum Qualifications: 20 years of age preferred; First Aid and CPR certification required; experience in employee supervision preferred. Assistant Manager Pay: $8.50-$10.15 per hour. Responsibilities: Employee supervision and motivation; facility cleanliness and safety; maintaining quality ice conditions; public relations; supervision of participants and enforcement of rules and regulations; attend to all daily tasks necessary for the efficient and effective operation of the Ice Arena as assigned; accurate record keeping; accurately dealing with large sums of money; reading and recording compressor data; manager or assistant manager will be on duty at all public sessions. Hours: 20-30 hours per week throughout Ice Arena season. Hours will be predominantly during weekends and evenings.
ICE ARENA CUSTOMER SERVICE ATTENDANTS (15+) Fall/Winter/Spring Employment Applications accepted June-August Minimum Qualifications: 16 years of age; First Aid and CPR certification preferred; previous money handling experience preferred; experience in the operation of a computer and/or electronic cash register preferred; concession experience preferred; ability to deal with the public in a cordial, cooperative, and friendly manner; ability to consistently and equitably enforce facility rules and regulations; skating skill is not a requirement to be hired for this position, but must be acquired within the first month of employment. Pay: $7.35-$8.20 per hour. Responsibilities: Facility cleanliness and custodial duties in and around the facility; collection of Ice Arena admission fees; public relations; concessions preparation, sales, and cleanliness; supervision of participants and enforcement of rules and regulations; care and maintenance of skates and skate shop area; other duties as assigned. Hours: Flexible, dependent upon individual needs; most attendants work 15-25 hours per week with a significant portion of the hours on weekends.
ICE BROOMBALL OFFICIALS (2) Spring Employment Applications accepted February-March Minimum Qualifications: 18 years of age required; First Aid and CPR certification preferred; thorough understanding of Parks and Recreation Ice Broomball rules and officiating techniques; ice skating skills; dependable, conscientious, consistent, capable of controlling and managing an adult sport. Pay: $10.00-$10.25 per game. Responsibilities: Referee adult ice broomball; represent Parks and Recreation in a positive, professional, friendly manner; handle game related problems with players and fans. Hours: Ice Broomball league hours to be determined.
ICE SKATING INSTRUCTORS Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter Employment Applications accepted year round Minimum Qualifications: 16 years of age preferred; First Aid and CPR certification preferred; excellent skating skills; experience in ISI skating program strongly preferred; previous teaching experience preferred; familiarity with ISI instructional programs; ISI Freestyle 4 or equivalent in USFS preferred. Responsibilities: Instruction in the Parks and Recreation skating lessons utilizing ISI techniques; organize and teach group skating lessons to various age and ability levels, including hockey skills. SYNCHRONIZED SKATING COACHES Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter Employment Applications accepted June-July Minimum Qualifications: 18 years of age preferred; First Aid and CPR certification preferred; excellent skating skills; experience in synchronized skating required; previous teaching experience preferred. Pay: $7.50-$10.40 per hour. Responsibilities: Instruction in the Parks and Recreation synchronized skating program; organize, choreograph and teach synchronized skating routines for teams of various age and ability levels. Hours: Sunday and some Tuesday evenings for practices and various weekends for competitions and exhibitions. Travel required.
MAINTENANCE FORESTRY/LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT

Pay: $7.50-$9.05 per hour. PARK/ GOLF COURSE/ ATHLETIC FIELD MAINTENANCE ASSISTANTS Spring/Summer/Fall Employment Applications accepted February-September Minimum Qualifications: 18 years of age preferred; 16 years of age is required; valid Missouri Class E or higher driver’s license preferred; grounds maintenance, recreation facility maintenance, athletic field maintenance and construction experience preferred. MISCELLANEOUS FINE ARTS CAMP Summer Applications accepted February-July Dates: Two weeks, with dates to be determined. Minimum Qualifications: Two or more years of college background in art, dance, drama, music, or related field; CPR and first aid certification preferred; experience working with children. LEADER (1) - Pay: $8.50-$10.15 per hour. Responsibilities: Plan, coordinate and supervise Fine Arts Camp. Hours: Approximately 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday. STAFF (2-3) - Pay: $8.00-$9.60 per hour. Responsibilities: Instruct, supervise and implement camp program for children in fine arts. Hours: Approximately 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday.
HAYRIDE DRIVERS (3-4) Spring/Fall Applications accepted February-May / July-October Minimum Qualifications: 18 years of age required; First Aid and CPR certification preferred; experience in operating tractors required; familiarity with and ability to check fluid/fuel levels on tractor; ability to lift up to 40 lbs required; good customer relations skills a necessity. Pay: $9.00-$10.75 per hour. Responsibilities: Operate the Parks and Recreation’s hayride program by setting up for and driving hayride tractor and wagons, starting campfires, running the rides while maintaining a schedule, calling participants upon weather cancellations. Hours: Program runs from September through November and April through May. Flexible hours depending upon scheduled hayrides and availability of driver. Hayrides are offered on weekdays between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., on weekday evenings from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m., and on weekends from 12:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Driver can choose between weekdays, weeknights, and weekends.
INTERN (1) Spring/Summer Applications accepted November-March Pay: $7.50 per hour Minimum Qualifications: Graduate and/or undergraduate student in an NRPA accredited college or university Parks and Recreation program assigned by the school to a fieldwork experience for academic credit. Responsibilities: The general fieldwork will introduce the student to all facets of the City of Jefferson Department of Parks, Recreation and Forestry. Our Internship Manual, available upon request, provides complete information. During summer months, emphasis is placed upon support of the Recreation Division. Hours: Contact hours will be established by the university’s intern supervisor and the Recreation Facilities and Special Services Division Director. Generally, interns are expected to work shifts comparable to that of the staff member with whom he/she is assigned for that period.
LEISURE CLASS INSTRUCTORS Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter Applications accepted year round Minimum Qualifications: 21 years of age preferred; demonstrated skill in a leisure pursuit of interest to others and a willingness to share that skill through teaching; teaching experience preferred but not mandatory; Parks and Recreation is particularly interested in recruiting instructors with skills in outdoor recreation/education for classes utilizing Binder Park. Pay: Hourly, dependent upon skill and class popularity. Responsibilities: Instruct class in a leisure skill; Parks and Recreation typically provides or arranges the facility, assists in supplying equipment and supplies; dependable, conscientious, enthusiastic instructors needed for year-round leisure education and camp programs. Hours: Classes are generally at the convenience of the instructor and are scheduled into time slots conducive to the activity and to the attraction of students. Classes typically last four to six weeks and meet at the same time each week. However, some classes are single meetings. There is considerable flexibility depending upon the activity.
YOUTH DAY CAMPS Summer Applications accepted February-June CAMP WOKKA WOKKA (for children grades 1-3) – Memorial Park; activities include arts and crafts, games and physical activities, cookouts, hikes, nature study, field trips and much more. BINDER ADVENTURE CAMP (for children grades 4-6) – Binder Park; some of the activities will include canoeing, fishing, archery, hayrides, outdoor camping/cooking, confidence course, hiking, nature study, and much more. YOUTH SPORTS DAY CAMP (for children grades 1-6) – Ellis Porter Park; activities will include but are not limited to basketball, flag football, soccer, golf, dodge ball, field trips, crafts, and nutrition information. LEADER (1 for each camp) - Pay: $8.50-$10.40 per hour. Minimum Qualifications: 21 years of age preferred; Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation and Parks Administration, Outdoor Recreation, Natural Science, Conservation, Physical Education, or a related field preferred; first aid and CPR certification required; teaching experience preferred; experience supervising young adults required; American Campcrafters Association certification preferred for Camp Wokka Wokka and Binder Adventure Camp. Responsibilities: Plan, coordinate, and supervise camp. Hours: 7:30 a.m. - 3:15 p.m., Monday through Friday. STAFF (2-3 for each camp) - Pay: $7.50-$9.40 per hour. Minimum Qualifications: 18 years of age preferred; related degree preferred; teaching experience preferred; first aid and CPR certification required; experience working with children preferred. Responsibilities: Implement, instruct, supervise day camp program. Hours: 7:45 a.m. – 3:15 p.m., Monday through Friday. Day camps begin end of May/first of June. Staff will also have the opportunity to work the after camp swim program from 3:00 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.
POOLS LIFEGUARDS Summer Applications accepted February-May Minimum Qualifications: 15 years of age; StarGuard Lifeguard Certification required; previous experience as a lifeguard preferred, but not required; above average swim skills required. Pay: $7.50-$8.85 per hour. Responsibilities: Supervision and safety of patrons; rule enforcement; facility cleanliness; required attendance and participation in weekly in-service training and meetings. Hours: As many as 40 per week if lesson instruction is included – schedules vary – weekend and holidays are required. * Parks and Recreation only accepts StarGuard lifeguard certifications, but will retrain potential candidates, if necessary.
MEMORIAL PARK FAMILY AQUATIC CENTER MANAGER & ASSISTANT MANAGER (2) ELLIS-PORTER RIVERSIDE POOL MANAGER & ASSISTANT MANAGER (2) Summer Applications accepted February-March Minimum Qualifications: 21 years of age preferred; StarGuard Lifeguard Certification Training required; WSI preferred; experience in supervision, lifeguarding, swim instruction, scheduling, and pool operation required. Manager Pay: $10.00-$11.70 per hour. Assistant Manager Pay: $8.50-$10.35 per hour. Responsibilities: Complete day to day operation and administration of municipal pool; must be able to work with general public and staff in a professional manner. Hours: 40 hours per week – pools open 6 ½ - 13 hours per day, seven days per week, including holidays. MISSION STATEMENT It is the mission and responsibility of the City of Jefferson Parks & Recreation Commission and the staff of the Department of Parks & Recreation to provide for the diverse leisure, conservation, recreation, and aesthetic resource needs of present and future generations in the Jefferson City area. The Commission was created to acquire, manage, preserve, and improve a quality system of parklands, open space and recreation facilities and to develop and supervise a broad program of quality educational and recreational activities for all ages. AGENCY DESCRIPTION Administered by a nine-member Parks and Recreation Commission, appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council. The Department is funded by user fees and a ½ cent sales tax. The Director of Parks and Recreation oversees the operations of the department. Parks Resources and Forestry Division Director, General Recreation and Support Services Division Director, and Recreation Facilities and Special Services Division Director report directly to the Director. Recreation Supervisors and Recreation Specialists report to the Division Directors. The Park Resources and Forestry Division Director oversees the Park Resources Supervisors, the Park Planner and all park crews. DRESS CODE All personnel are expected to maintain themselves and their clothing in a clean, neat, orderly, and well-cared for fashion. No employee may work without a shirt except those authorized to do so as a pool employee. In most cases, the Department provides shirts for its part-time employees to wear while working. Department issued shirts are not to be modified or altered in any way and must always be worn properly. Employees on some crews will be issued baseball caps or suitable headgear. The same policy is in effect: headgear must be worn properly, may not be altered in any way, and is to be worn only while working. No employee may wear any logo or design which advertises or depicts alcohol, drug use, or tobacco in any form or which has sexual or otherwise inappropriate connotations. YOUTH SPORTS MISSION STATEMENT "It is the mission of the Parks and Recreation Youth Sports programs to serve young players, their families and the Jefferson City community at large by providing fun, safe and enjoyable youth sports experiences by recognizing each player’s physical and emotional well-being, by teaching skills development, by treating them with respect and dignity, by encouraging positive parent involvement and by enriching young lives with meaningful recreation and socialization.”
