THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW Jefferson City Parks & Recreation Foundation Jefferson City is home to an award winning Parks and Recreation Department. As the capital city of Missouri, maintaining our local parks and recreation facilities and implementing programs to meet the ever changing needs of our community and its visitors is a challenge. The J eff er s o n C it y P ar ks a n d Recreation Foundation strives to provide additional resources to leverage taxes, fees and grants to enhance our parks and recreation services. Over the years, civic minded individuals and organizations have maintained a tradition of enhancing the quality of life for their families, friends, and neighbors through generous donations to the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation system. In 1992, the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Foundation was formed to provide continuing leadership and foster the expansion of parks and recreation services in Jefferson City. The Foundation’s goal is to emphasize the value of parks and recreation - both passive and active - not only for individual growth and development, but also for a strong family unit and for making our community a more desirable place to live, work, play and visit. If you believe, as we do, that wholesome recreation pursuits make individuals more productive in their homes and communities and lead to a healthier and happier life, please commit your support to the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Foundation. Land, trees, fountains, benches, shelters, activity fees for youth programs are all gifts that can make a difference in people’s lives. Any and all size of gifts to our community are appreciated and contribute to the livability and quality of life of Jefferson City. For more information on how you can make a tax deductible contribution of land, money, or other gifts, please contact the Foundation’s Executive Director William Lockwood at 634-6482.
Equal Opportunity As a recipient of federal funds from the U.S. Department of the Interior, the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Commission and the Jefferson City Department of Parks and Recreation operates programs subject to the nondiscrimination requirements of Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Under Title VI, the U.S. Department of the Interior strictly prohibits discrimination because of race, color, or national origin in its federally assisted programs. Any person who believes he or she has been discriminated against in any program or facility of the Jefferson City Department of Parks and Recreation, or desires further information regarding Title VI, should write immediately to: The Office for Equal Opportunity U.S. Department of Interior Office of the Secretary Washington, D.C. 20240
Bleeding Policy In any Parks and Recreation program, a participant who is bleeding or who has blood on his/her clothing shall be prohibited from participating further in the activity until appropriate treatment has been administered. Appropriate treatment may include bandaging as necessary to prevent recurrence. This policy has been implemented to protect the participants, coaches, staff, and their families from diseases transported through the accidental contact of tainted blood. If medical care is needed, the participant must leave the activity until the problem situation has been resolved. A 70% isopropyl alcohol solution must be used to disinfect the skin and clothing. All infected areas must be thoroughly cleaned before this individual is allowed to continue participating in the activity. This may require that the player remove affected clothing and replace it in order to be able to continue participating. All participants should bring an extra shirt, pair of pants/shorts, and socks to each activity to change into in the event a blood incident should occur.
Sponsorships The Parks and Recreation Commission believes that no youth should be denied access to Parks and Recreation programs for financial reasons. The Parks and Recreation Foundation makes recreation sponsorships available to those who otherwise would not be able to afford to participate in organized recreation activities. Those seeking sponsorships will be asked to complete a Recreation Sponsorship Application Form available through the Department of Parks and Recreation. Sponsorships are generally limited to those receiving benefits from a form of public assistance as designated on the application form. Sponsorship funding is limited to $200 per individual per calendar year and is restricted to ongoing programs conducted by Parks and Recreation staff. Specialized programs of short duration conducted by non-staff members (e.g. baseball clinics) are ineligible for sponsorship funding. All application forms requesting funding for youth programs must be signed by the parent/guardian of the prospective participant. Participants/parents must pay a minimum of 20% of the registration fee for programs for which sponsorship assistance is requested. Questions concerning this service may be directed to Phil Stiles at 634-6482.
The views of any program or activity advertised within this guide and sponsored by any organization other than the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Department do not necessarily reflect the views of the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Department.

If you would like your child to take swimming lessons and attend camp, now you can. All you need to do is register for the coordinating weeks for the Youth Sports Day Camp and morning swimming lessons at Ellis-Porter/Riverside Pool (which are listed below). Depending upon the number of children enrolled in swimming lessons, a counselor(s) will escort them to the lessons, stay at the pool to chaperone them and then bring them back to camp when the lessons are over.
Binder or Wokka Wokka Campers can participate in After Camp Swim. Swimming campers are accompanied by a counselor and should be picked up by 5 p.m. Fee: $20 (late fee $25)
On-line registration is not available for these lessons since it will show as a conflict with Youth Sports Camp time frames. You will need to know your child’s skill level at the time of registration. See page 17 for swim lesson details. The following weeks of camp will coordinate with the following sessions of lessons:

If you choose to use this type of language you will be asked to exit the facility for the day without a refund. All patrons must pay to enter the pool whether swimming or just observing. Any individual wearing street clothes will not be allowed admission into the facility, unless you’re a parent or guardian of a child 8 years or younger. Appropriate swim attire must be worn. This includes male swim trunks, female one and two piece suits and tankinis. Suits should not be see through. No thongs, long pants, jean shorts or shorts with belt loops or rivets and anything else deemed not appropriate by the management staff. Certified lifeguards are on duty at all times for your safety. Children 8 years and under MUST be accompanied and supervised by a person 15 years of age or older. Outside food, drink, coolers or glass containers are not allowed into the pools. Both pools have concession stands to meet your needs. Pool patrons are not allowed to leave the pools. Exceptions will be made for adults with manager’s approval. Parks and Recreation reserves the right to check baggage if deemed necessary. Persons must be able to swim on their own to use any waterslide. During periods of low attendance, various attractions and/or pools within the complex may close. During periods of extreme heat or high temperatures, staff will take 10 minute safety breaks throughout the day to clear the pool. Parks and Recreation is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Coin operated lockers are available at each facility. Paging of patrons is NOT permitted. It is the responsibility of pool patrons to make communicative arrangements prior to entering. Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the pool complex or parking lot. Any person s u s p e c t e d t o b e o r under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be permitted into the facility. Only US Coast Guard approved floatation devices. Complimentary lifejackets are available at the admission booth. Water wings and small inner tubes are permitted if parent/guardian is within arms reach of the child. Rafts and large inner t ubes are NOT PERMITTED. Noodles are allowed into the facility. Close fitting swim diapers are required for all children who are not potty trained. Swim diapers are available at the admission gate for a nominal fee. If you, your child, or anyone in your family has had diarrhea in the past two weeks, please do not use the pool. It is the responsibility of the patrons when entering the facility to read and obey all posted signs for safety.
A Word To Parents... Our lifeguards are highly trained and skilled. Their job is to assist in making our facilities a safe and enjoyable place to bring the family. However, they are not babysitters. Parents are expected to watch their children and to assist in enforcing the policies for the safety and enjoyment of all patrons. All children 8 YEARS OF AGE AND YOUNGER must be accompanied and supervised by a person 15 years of age or older. Our business is keeping your kids safe!
Diaper Policy In an effort to keep our pool free of fecal matter, toddlers are required to wear swim diapers or plastic pants. Swim diapers are the safest barrier between your toddler and the water. These guidelines have been adopted for the health and safety of all who swim at our facilities. If your child has been sick with diarrhea please keep them at home until they are well. You may purchase swim diapers at either pool for $1.75 or bring your own.
Inclement Weather When inclement weather occurs, aquatic staff will remain at the pools and attempt to re-open the pools as soon as possible. If patrons remain at the pool, and we are unable to re-open after 45 minutes, a pass will be issued for one free future admission with proof of receipt. This policy is in effect until one hour prior to official closing. For pool closing information, call the Parks and Recreation Hotline, 6346485 and press #5.
