FRUSTRATION GROWS AS THE DISAPPEARANCE OF A 45-YEAR-OLD EVANSVILLE WOMAN REMAINS A MYSTERY
It's a missing persons case that continues to haunt an area family desperate to find their loved one. Over nine long months ago (June 21, 2020), 45-year-old Dawnita Wilkerson disappeared, last seen on surveillance footage at an Evansville motel as she stepped inside a silver/pewter-colored 2004 Chevy SUV. The vehicle reportedly traveled to southern Illinois where Wilkerson's trail stopped cold; the mother of six - who was just a week out from beginning nursing school - seemingly vanished into thin air. Initially, despite the tireless efforts of her family, her disappearance failed to receive much attention; however, the FBI eventually came on board to aid the Evansville Police Department in what's now deemed an active criminal case. But while there are suspects believed to be involved somehow, no arrests have been made - much to the family's frustration. They feel they know the answer as to why Wilkerson suddenly went missing but must wait impatiently for law enforcement to take action.
In the meantime, Wilkerson's family requests that anyone with information that can bring a conclusion to this heartbreaking case please come forward. A reward of $2500 has been offered as an incentive - simply call the tip line at 812-435-6194 or email finddawnitawilkerson@gmail.com. You may also contact the FBI Indianapolis Office at 317-595-4000 or the EPD at 812-436-7979.
In addition, please consider donating to the Show Up For Dawnita! GoFundMe page. Wilkerson's six children have struggled mightily without their mother. In fact, the family as a whole has truly suffered; there's not only the financial burden but the incredible stress of searching day in and day out, wondering if they'll ever have closure. It's all taken a tremendous toll on everyone.
