Once upon a time there was a team who wanted to build a mobile app, one for consuming PowerView reports on the mobile device.

Their vision was clear, let’s build an app for Bill!

Who’s Bill, you say?

So it’s a mobile app…there are apps everywhere, iOS apps, Windows apps…

‌surely it couldn’t be that hard!

The right minds were in the room‌.they would build an iOS and a Windows app.

We need to build for the different platforms. Let’s try to be efficient and intelligent with our code!

That and make sure we’re testing all our scenarios! Performance really matters!

That and also we have to think about the product strategy. This app has to be feature full and live up to its value prop!

…and let’s not forget about Bill!

But in fact there were challenges ahead.

Should the app be exactly the same on iOS and Win8? Where do we focus our eorts?

How many gestures? How can the app do all the cool things you can do in PowerView?

Yes, yes‌ is touch first, but let’s not forget about desktop mode!

Should it look dierent from PV? Does PV content look the same as Excel?

At times it was easy to only focus on the problems‌

But let’s not forget our mission to aect Bill on an emotional level!

It could activate his emotions in a variety of ways

Existing apps could share their language with ours.

We would need to re-engage with Bill.

Many ideas were generated, all with the help and participation of the team. They had to present and implement quickly.

Seems like a neat show off feature for Bill to be able to flick a report up to a projected screen

Some things made their way into the product.

Everyone was willing to participate, everyone felt a little more responsible.

There were lots of learning lessons that came from working together and failing fast‌

Ultimately they shipped something that would be a foundation for future work.
