HOPE Givin

for Healthcare Transformation in our Community and Beyond

Community roots

Our story began in 1940, when – on the heels of the Great Depression – the citizens of Charlotte funded the construction of a new hospital.

Since that time, we’ve grown from a single hospital to the largest provider in the region. With roots planted firmly in the hearts of our communities, we’ve embraced change and forged new paths to bring the very best to those we serve.

We’ve faced challenges along the way, but that’s the thing about hope: It allows us to face obstacles head-on, with determination to defy the odds.

HOPE

A vision for the future

Today, a time of great change is upon us. By 2030, the population of our core market is projected to grow exponentially. Almost daily, healthcare itself is transformed by new innovations and delivery models.

With this change comes both challenge and opportunity. It’s a challenge to ensure that every patient in our growing community has access to convenient, affordable, quality care. More importantly, it’s an opportunity to improve more lives.

We have a vision to build a brighter future for health and we’re leading the way, investing in the care that you, your family, your friends and neighbors – all of us – hope is there when we need it.

In 2018, Atrium Health committed significant resources to address the growing needs of our network; but as with our beginning 80 years ago, our vision can only be realized with our community’s support. Giving Hope: The Campaign for Atrium Health seeks to raise the $500 million required to complete the challenge of creating the health system of the future – one designed to provide health, hope and healing, for all.

THE FUTURE OF HEALTHCARE

The time is now to reshape healthcare. The Giving HOPE campaign emphasizes four key areas or community support:

HEALTHY COMMUNITIES — Making a social impact by extending care beyond the walls of our facilities directly into communities.

OUTSTANDING EDUCATION — Helping develop facilities and programs for the next generation, creating a diverse learning healthcare system.

PREEMINENT RESEARCH — Advancing care by fueling discovery, creativity, and pioneering research.

EXEMPLARY FACILITIES — Creating new and newly renovated spaces that are distinctive, innovative, accessible and built to accommodate growth.

EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION

The Atrium Health – Wake Forest Baptist Health combination will extend the excellence of the Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem with a new, additional campus in Charlotte.

The two campuses of the Wake Forest School of Medicine will create a next-generation, academic learning health system featuring:

• 3,200 total learners across more than 100 specialized programs each year.

• One of the most diverse learning bodies in the country – producing a generation of medical professionals representative of the communities we serve.

• A new, preeminent regional corridor for health technology and innovation. Convening the surrounding academic, healthcare, government and business communities, the corridor will focus on improving health by bringing new medicines and treatments to patients in half the time and advancing economic equity.

• Expanded research capabilities across a large, diverse market to drive discovery that improves the health of our patients and communities with an emphasis on health equity.

5

CAMPUS NAMING OPPORTUNITIES:

Students and faculty will have numerous spaces to gather and learn on the Charlotte campus of Wake Forest School of Medicine. From simulated training in the experiential learning center to guest lectures and casual meetings in the student union – and extending throughout the innovation corridor – Atrium Health will foster an environment of innovation, interprofessional collaborations, and service to community.

IN EDUCATION AND RESEARCH

The competition for clinical talent and the race for medical innovation have never been more intense, requiring a value proposition to attract and grow a diverse physician community.

Scholarship Support Opportunities

Atrium Health will play a significant role in providing equity in access to both healthcare and education by ensuring that students from disadvantaged and low-income communities have equal opportunity to pursue careers in health sciences. Scholarship support can help with retention, as young professionals join the Atrium Health family after they earn their degree – addressing the growing shortage of clinicians in both urban and rural communities across the Carolinas and beyond.

Providing equity in care

By ensuring caregivers look like the communities they're taking care of, Atrium Health will foster an environment of inclusion.

2025 Research & Education Opportunities:

• Train a total of 688 MD students across our campuses including 108 students in our newly built Wake Forest School of Medicine in Charlotte.

• Build the Charlotte Innovation District while at the same time continuing to expand the Innovation Quarter in Winston-Salem, connecting the two through the Innovation Corridor.

• Directly link our Research and Clinical Missions to enhance the speed and effectiveness of our clinical translation.

Impacting Economic Development

As we become a next-generation academic learning health system, we will also be a catalyst for health innovation and economic development.

We seek to train diverse and empathetic health professionals who are active in improving outcomes FOR ALL - including the most vulnerableby fostering innovation, interprofessional collaborations, and service to community.

WE SEEK TO:

• Create a “Silicon Valley” for healthcare innovation.

• Attract a broad range of investors with an economic and employment impact that is projected to triple in the next 20 years. ($5.2 billion in economic impact, 43,000 jobs*)

• Become the desired destination hub for healthcare companies and entrepreneurs around the globe!

ACCESS TO CARE

Philanthropic support has helped Atrium Health extend care beyond the walls of its facilities, directly into some of the most fragile communities we serve. We have expanded virtual behavioral healthcare throughout our network and implemented virtual care programs in schools. Additional support will enable Atrium Health to continue to address disparities in care through mobile screenings, testing, and education in rural and underserved areas.

PHILANTHROPIC SUPPORT WILL IMPACT OUR PATIENTS, THEIR FAMILIES, AND THEIR NEIGHBORHOODS FOR GENERATIONS TO COME.
