Healing Power of Art

THE HEALING POWER OF ART:

Hospital Rooftop Transformed for the Benefit of Levine Children’s Patients

For Speedway Children’s Charities, to care for the needs of children means caring for the whole person – mind, body, and spirit – and helping children thrive so they can achieve their goals and dreams. For artist Jonathan Grauel and an outstanding team from Levine Children’s pediatric intensive care unit, the same vision holds true. Thanks to a gift from the Charlotte Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities, the Charlotte-based artist was commissioned to transform the rooftop view adjacent to patient rooms where children are recovering from serious illnesses or injuries, bringing a special form of healing to children and families at a time when they need it most. Inspired by the designs of patients, families, and medical providers who participated in artist-led workshops, the artist’s “Levine Village” includes a 123-foot mural and 11 diorama sculptures that will continue to uplift patients and medical teams at Levine Children’s for years to come.
