for Health Care Transformation in our Community and Beyond
In July of 2023, Atrium Health broke ground on a new, 12-story, state-of-the-art, advanced care facility at its flagship campus, Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center (CMC). The 1.1 million square-foot facility on Blythe Boulevard, near uptown Charlotte, is scheduled to open in 2027 as the marquee project in an ongoing re-design and upgrade of Atrium Health’s facilities and capabilities at the site. When completed, the new facility will connect with both the Dickson Tower and the David L. Conlan Center at Atrium Health Carolinas Rehabilitation – which opened in January 2023, replacing the previous rehabilitation location. With philanthropic support from the community, Atrium Health CMC is poised to provide the highest level of care for all in the greater Charlotte community.
Patient rooms will place a premium on outside views with additional space within the room designed for patient and visitor comfort. New surgical suites will provide space for medical teams to maneuver and support a range of specialized procedures and technology integration. A new emergency department design will increase the speed of care with an optimized floorplan. At full occupancy, the new bed tower is expected to offer:
• Capacity to treat 448 patients, including 128 Intensive Care Unit beds and 128 Medical-Surgical Unit beds
• A state-of-the-art Emergency Department featuring 62 emergency exam rooms and a dedicated chapel
• Two-story pedestrian sky bridges connecting the new bed tower to major facilities of the greater Carolinas Medical Center campus
• 1.1 million total square feet for inpatient and outpatient care, visitation, administration, and respite Rendering subject to change.
