Proposal design, Landmarks & DOB s ets, community board. In this project we design a oor and penthouse addi on to in an exis ng building from 1900. It is located in the Seaport District, in front of the East River and close to Brooklyn Bridge. The exceponal loca on together with the historic character of the district have in uenced strongly in the design. The project is a series of frames from which one can enjoy the stunning landscape. The rst one contains the private areas of the house. The second contains a an interior garden and a library. This space can be spa ally ‘merged’ with the third frame by opening its glass enclosure, thus the living room becomes a gardened terrace overlooking the East River. The materials we propose ‘talk’ with the character of the historic surroundings as and express the contemporaneity of the proposal.

The conceptual de ni on of the project is based on a spa al interpreta on of the structure of Andersen’s fairy tales, which leads to the considera on of a dual world: the real and the fantas c. The ‘real world’ is predominantly situated at the surface-level of the site, and is represented by exis ng buildings, Lotze’s Garden and the entrance to the ‘fairy tales world’. On the other hand, the ‘fantas c world’, is located underground and mainly integrated by the exhibi on spaces. As in Andersen’s stories, ‘nature’ cons tutes the interface between these two worlds: vegeta on, water and light are the key elements shaping the visitors’ experience. Obtaining inspira on from fairy tales such as ‘The Li le Mermaid’ or ‘The Ugly Duckling’, water is considered to be the gateway to the fantas c world. A smooth ramp piercing a shallow lake transports visitors to a world of magic and explora on. Nevertheless, during their journey through this seemingly isolated world, visitors are con nuously aware of the real world above them, albeit from a diīerent perspec ve, through what the project named as the Ar facts. A er going through the fantas c world, visitors nally expverience what the project refers to as the ‘Moral Space’, which returns them back to reality while revealing new knowledge about some aspect of human complexity.

The design of the building has to ensure that it is representa ve of its func on. This contrasts with the domes c look of its surroundings by the Sil riverbank. The simplicity, clarity and eĸcient layout of the design together with the incorporaon energy-saving measures support its representa ve nature. The adaptability of the building relies on its regular, simple and ra onal structural grid. This disposure allows the alloca on of communica on, facility and storage areas in the northern band of the building. The working areas are bright open spaces whose layout can be easily changed according to the demands over me. The project is commi ed energy saving strategies, which are ingrained in its design, as it is showed by the greenhouse in the ground oor, solar panels in its roof terrace and the double facade that reduces the ven la on and cooling loans.

2.0 CITY
In this Master Plan we state and apply the principles of “2.0 city”. These principles defend essen al points to be considered in modern developments of ci es. It resumes the best features of tradi onal developments and the characteris cs of the nowadays-urban plans. UNSATURATED CITY. The development design is not sta c, its layout and use will change over me. We impulse its evolu on by establishing possible guidelines for its growth and those are supported by the designed structure. We want to promote its development. 3D CITY: The 2.0 city must have 3D tools for its de ni on. The compa bility of uses will address the third dimension. PERMEABLE CITY: Accessibility from diīerent heights, no sectors, no fences or barriers, no “crust” pavements... COMPACT CITY: human scale, mixed uses, a layout that promotes neighborhoods, everything accessible within a short-walk distance... CITY AS EVOLUTION: Its design is based on ra onal criteriathe history of the city, its topography and its inhabitants. TESTABLE CITY: Ci zens will play a bigger part in the design of the city. This will be allowed through the transparency and publicity of planning processes

Design and Development of the project in a team. Drawings and Documents of Compe on.
The site is in Malaga’s Historical Centre. This loca on and the shape of the site are decisive in the composi on and display of the buildings. But, despite the crooked shape of the plots the buildings proposed are arranged in an orthogonal array. This geometric con gura on generates pa os of diīerent sizes and regular shapes. These pa os are similar to the ones found in the city oor plan and t nicely in this conceptual pa ern. The sharp plain walls confer a solid presence to the buildings transmi ng to the pedestrians and occupants a cool feeling which is suitable for such a hot place like Málaga. Another characteris c element in the composi on is the light footbridges which are used to enter the apartments. These are covered with semitransparent synthe c fabrics which subtly block the peripheral vision of the pedestrians but keep the inner space ven lated.

The building is located in a 20 x 20 m2 plot. Its entrance is in the north side of the plot and at its easten side there is a river. The two story house we present is east west oriented in order to have its longest facade looking towards the river. The posi on of the house in the plot divides the surrounding space in two areas, the entrance area and the garden, that is close to the riverbank. The gross oor area was limited to to 95m2, so we designed the layout of the house in a way that maximized all the rooms space whereas connec on and corridor areas were reduced to the minimum. The kitchen, the dinning room and living room share the same space and the shape of the roof visually divides them. Addi onally, all the main rooms of the house have a river view.

10 years of Europan as a se ng of ideas and a pla orm for a European contemporary urbanism and architecture debate. With the ambi on of becoming a research network, connec ng every concern and interest of every plot and every country par cipa ng. A global statement, that’s the Europan, includes all the statements of each plot. A pla orm that solves problems by turning them into exercises, genera ng interes ng and realis c debates. In view of this, we propose a symmetric response in coming to the problem and in the developments. We respond from a common and global propose, and from that common stand, we discuss and develop new statements for the plots we chose. We become coordinators of diīerent networking teams, sharing tools and ar cula ng a common proposal adapted to each plot requirements. In each plot we promote solu ons toward… … An architecture that learns from society and foresee its needs. … An evolu onal development of projects …An urban laboratory … A new saving culture … A density that allows nego a ons … A urbanism grounded on its infrastructure.

This project is located in one of the most important Įnancial centers of the city and the second largest block in Madrid. The site has oĸces, commercial areas, housing and several networked parks and squares. This area is used below its possibiliƟes because of; its layout, its poor internal connecƟons and a the lack of safety in the area. This area is 20 Ha big, and 10 of this Ha are exterior areas with poor pedestrian connecƟons between them. Further more, there are also several underground passages in the area poorly illuminated and controlled, which help increasing the unsafe feeling when taking a walk in the area. Therefore, the project aims to remodeling the area in order to increase its use by ciƟzens and solve its safety problems. This goal will be reached by implemenƟng the program that comes from a sustainable urbanism analysis of the area that also aims to: match the need of equipments in the area; acƟvate the area 24h/day and increase its importance as a city hub.

Azca Complex Equipment. Spain. As a result of the analysis we propose a program of 200.000m2 divided into a “horizontal” and “ver cal” developments. Horizontally we create con nuous parkplaza (136.600m ²) which has commercial and cultural areas as well as sports facili es. In the proposal we eliminate the underground walkways. This ParkPlaza is highly adaptable to mul ple events both with local or metropolitan importance. At the southern area, we propose a hybrid building with mul ple uses and equipments. It will be the entrance to the park and the most visible part of the complex. It is 80.000m ² and has several public squares (each at diīerent height) and a Sports Area, a Library, a Leisure Centre, Oĸces, a Community Center, an Educa onal Zone and Commercial areas. The building is highly adaptable to host a wide range of events both metropolitan or local.
