Welcome to Annie at the AT&T Performing Arts Center Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House! Whether you’re a season ticket holder or this is your first show on our campus, we hope your visit to the Dallas Arts District is fulfilling and exceptional.

Originally published as a 1920’s comic strip and first produced on Broadway in 1977, Annie is a classic of family theater. The production encapsulates the transformative power of musical theater, boasting a brilliant and familiar score, navigating powerful narratives, and sharing life lessons that resonate with audiences young and young-at-heart.

This show also evokes remarkably fond memories for me personally. In 8th grade, I operated the spotlight for my school’s production of Annie (and learned I am better behind a desk than a lighting board!). The 1982 film adaptation with Carol Burnett and Bernadette Peters is the first movie musical I remember enjoying again and again (don’t miss Peters’ first visit to the Winspear on April 11). And I recall watching the 2014 remake — starring North Texas’ own Jamie Foxx — with my family and seeing my kids brim with wonder as the familiar story unfolded before their eyes. Annie has a special place in my heart, and I’m so thrilled we get to share it with you today.

Before you leave the district, stop by Flora Cantina for a post-show meal or sweet treat — did somebody say $2 ice cream? Take a stroll for refreshing sips and tasty bites at one of our preferred dining partners just steps away from the Winspear. Or find a quiet spot in Sammons Park to take in the sights and sounds of our bustling campus and enjoy the Center’s surroundings.

I also want to highlight some fun and exciting upcoming programs. As you may know, Dallas is in the path of totality for the April 8 solar eclipse — and we’re over the moon! Join us for Total Eclipse of the Arts, a family-friendly gathering featuring food, drinks, vendors, live music and an eclipse watch party with FREE viewing glasses! The event takes place from 11:30 AM – 3:00 PM and all are welcome.
