BE IN THE ROOM!

NOTHING REPLACES THE LIVE EXPERIENCE!

That visceral connection, the shared group energy we get from a live performance is very special and cannot be replicated on a digital screen. Be In The Room, and be a part of that powerful personal connection with art.

Creating moments of awe, like tonight’s performance, is what makes the TITAS/DANCE UNBOUND season so very special. It’s hard to put into words, but it’s something you just have to experience in the room, with an audience. Diverse, global, entertaining, all describe the magic of TITAS. Nothing Replaces the Live Experience.

We celebrate and contribute to the international profile of our city. We celebrate the value of serving an adventurous and eager audience, and we celebrate the value of cultural awareness and the enrichment of a community. This is the heart of TITAS and our contribution to the cultural landscape of North Texas. New audience members are always surprised by their experience. “I’m overwhelmed, this was not what I expected,” this is the comment we hear at virtually every performance. With four decades under our belt, we see the power of bringing top-notch artists from around the world to our city.

The 2024:25 season won’t disappoint. Breathtaking artistry, athletic and amazing dancers makes this a very special season of internationally touring companies. We proudly present a season of ten extraordinary companies from the United States, New Zealand and Spain, with four companies making their debuts and three companies performing with live music.

Thank you for being a part of another exciting year of performances, and thank you for engaging in the arts and with TITAS/DANCE UNBOUND and the AT&T Performing Arts Center.

What we do together, truly does make a difference.

DIRECTOR'S NOTE

"In light of recent political and global events I felt drawn to revisit the work of artist Francisco de Goya (1746-1828), whose graphics and paintings reveal the horrors of war, the monsters that live within us, the humiliation of the humble, and the value of the strength and sensibility of animals. The complexity of content and emotion motivated them to reimagine Goya’s works through flamenco. With the help of Goya expert and Metropolitan Museum Curator Mark McDonald, we embarked on the creation of Searching For Goya. The production has been in development since early 2022 at The Joyce Theater, The 62’ Center at Williams College, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, and other prestigious cultural institutions. It made its world premiere in November 2023 at the University of Washington’s Meany Center for the Performing Arts, where The Seattle Times called it “a dance performance you don’t want to miss."

“The timeless themes, emotions, and conditions that emerge are key to Goya’s enduring relevance. Like the world in which Goya lived, our own is rent by ignorance and fear and ripped apart by conflict and suffering that have taken on new dimensions in the face of a pandemic. Now and into the future, Goya’s art will continue to engage those who seek the essence of human being.”

ABOUT THE COMPANY

The mission of Noche Flamenca is to create a diverse theatrical body of performance through song, music, and dance that expresses a rigorous, spell-binding aesthetic in the form of flamenco; one that exceeds the highest artistic expectations. The company strives to captivate its audiences through its live performances and to evoke in them the vivid and expansive sea of passion and emotion that is flamenco. Through its educational outreach and residency programs, the company seeks to educate and enlighten persons of all ages, races, and economic backgrounds regarding the authentic form of flamenco –a form born of ancestral cultural repression and racial expulsion.

Under the direction and choreography of Martín Santangelo, the award-winning Noche Flamenca is recognized as one of the world’s premier touring companies. Formed in 1993 by Santangelo and his award-winning wife, Soledad Barrio, the company has toured throughout the globe, including regular seasons in New York City, and performances in North and South America, Europe, and Australia. Hailed by critics everywhere for its transcendent and deeply emotional performances, Noche Flamenca is recognized as the most authentic flamenco touring company in the field today. Santangelo has successfully brought to the stage the essence, purity, and integrity of one of the world's most complex and mysterious art forms. All aspects of flamenco – dance, song, and music – are interrelated and given equal weight, creating a true communal spirit within the company - the very heart and soul of flamenco.

Noche Flamenca has been recognized with awards from the National Dance Project, the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts, the MAP Fund, and the Lucille Lortel Award for Special Theatrical Experience, among many others.
