ArkADElphiA, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech football team had eyes on playing spoiler on Saturday night at Cliff Harris Stadium in Arkadelphia and snapping Ouachita’s 29-game winning streak against Great American Conference opponents, but the No. 8-ranked Tigers proved to be too much to upend on their home turf as they beat Tech by a score of 38-24.

Saturday night’s game got off to an inauspicious start as after the opening kickoff and a mere two plays, the game was forced into a lightning delay as there were strikes within the 10-mile radius surrounding Cliff Harris Stadium. The total length of the delay lasted right at an hour and half with play resuming at 7:30 p.m.

Prior to the delay, Ouachita had just ripped off a 50-yard pass play on a screen play. That quickly pushed the Tigers (3-0, 3-0 GAC) into Wonder Boys (0-3, 0-3 GAC) territory. Following the delay, Ouachita resumed their opening drive and four plays later, the Tigers scored the game’s first points on a three-yard rush by TJ Cole.

Following the Ouachita score, the Wonder Boys’ offense finally got their hands on the ball and promptly engineered a 13-play, 71-yard drive to knot the score at 7-all. The final play of the drive was a two-yard rush over the right side by senior tailback Caleb Batie.

Ouachita answered back on their ensuing possession to take a 14-7 lead. The Wonder Boys’ following possession carried the game into the second quarter but ended with a punt. The Tigers then controlled the clock with a 10-play, 82-yard drive that ended with a 27-yard field goal by Gabe Goodman. Ouachita then added another touchdown right before halftime and carried a 24-7 lead into the locker room.

The two teams traded scores midway through the third quarter. The score by the Wonder Boys was a nine-yard pass from Jack Lindsey to Joyrion Chase, marking the first career TD reception for the Marion High product.

In the fourth quarter, Jesus Zizumbo connected on a 34-yard field goal and with just over a minute left to play, freshman and Arkadelphia native Kyren Harrison scored from 13-yards out to account for the Wonder Boys’ final points.
