EL DORADO, Ark. – Playing in the annual Murphy USA Classic for just the second time in the game’s 12-year history on Saturday, the Arkansas Tech football team came out of the gate on fire and took early control of the matchup with Southern Arkansas. Miscues that directly led to points for SAU, however, proved to be the undoing of Tech as SAU ended up winning the game 34-17.
Prior to the turning point of the game, the Wonder Boys (2-5, 2-5 GAC) had jumped out to a 14-0 lead through the first 10 minutes or so of game time as they scored touchdowns on each of their first two drives.
The first drive of the game for the Wonder Boys was a methodical 13-play, 75-yard drive that chewed up just over five minutes of clock and ended with a two-yard rush by Caleb Batie. The Wonder Boys then allowed just one first down on SAU’s opening possession and regained the ball back on a punt with 8:11 left in the first quarter.
The Wonder Boys then engineered an 8-play, 53-yard drive that ended with a one-yard plunge by Kyren Harrison.
Tech’s defense returned to the field for SAU’s next offensive drive and were even better than the first forcing the Muleriders (3-4., 3-4 GAC) to turn the ball over on downs after going for it on 4th-and-1 from the SAU-43 yardline.
With a short field, the Wonder Boys appeared to be marching down the field once more for a potential third scoring drive in as many opportunities. Three plays into that drive, the Wonder Boys were SAU 20-yardline following a 17-yard swing pass play from Jack Lindsey to Batie on 3rd-and-4.
The next snapped flipped the script on the game, however, and suddenly breathed new life into SAU. That snap went high and tumbled back to the SAU 40-yardline before SAU’s Brock Floyd scooped and scored, giving SAU their first points of the game.
Tech’s return to the field on offense quickly led to a punt, but the Wonder Boys found themselves on the receiving end of a swing play as the punt return was fumbled and Tech’s Koby Edwards recovered at the SAU 31-yardline, spelling the end of the first quarter.
Despite the short field, the Wonder Boys were still unable to move the ball and were forced to attempt a 41-yard field goal by Jesus Zizumbo. There was no issue with the distance of the kick, but it missed to the left, keeping the score 14-7, Tech with 13:45 left in the second quarter.
Neither team’s offense was able to do much over the next 10 minutes or so of game action, but after receiving a punt at their own 30-yardline and quickly getting the 45-yardline on a pass interference call, SAU’s Jariq Scales broke open for a 55-yard rush to tie the game at the 3:28 mark of the second quarter.
That would be the score at the break with all apparent momentum going the way of the Muleriders.
After winning the opening coin toss and electing to receive, the Wonder Boys were forced to kick to the Muleriders to open the second half and on that opening drive, the Muleriders put three points on the board on a 38-yard field goal to take their first lead of the game, 17-14, with 13:07 to play in the third quarter.
The snowball of momentum building for SAU struck again on Tech’s opening drive of the second half as after a stalled drive, the Wonder Boys’ punt attempt was blocked and returned for a touchdown to put SAU up 24-14 with 11:12 remaining in the third quarter.
Following that, the Wonder Boys’ offense continued to struggle without the services of starting quarterback Jack Lindsey who was knocked out of the game following a hit midway through the second quarter.
After forcing the Wonder Boys to punt the ball away on a three-and-out, the Muleriders kept their foot on the gas and ripped off a quick 4-play, 63-yard drive that ended with a 32-yard passing touchdown from Hayden Mallory to Matthew Whitten, to make it a 31-14 game with 7:30 left in the third quarter.
The two teams then go on to trade field goals in the fourth quarter to bring the game to its final score of 34-17.

A ME ssAGE FroM ThE prE siDEnT
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, students, faculty and staff of Arkansas Tech University, welcome to Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field.
As we gather to enjoy today’s game, may we do so with the defining attributes of NCAA Division II foremost in our minds: learning, service, passion, sportsmanship, resourcefulness and balance.
Arkansas Tech University student-athletes exemplify these ideals through their performance in competition, in the classroom and in the community.
Our Wonder Boys and Golden Suns earned the Great American Conference President’s Trophy for overall athletic performance during the 2020-21 academic year. It marked the seventh time since the founding of the GAC in 2011 that ATU was named the conference’s top overall athletic program. The athletic excellence of our student-athletes is matched by an academic performance that led to 77 ATU student-athletes earning GAC All-Academic status in 2020-21. In addition, Arkansas Tech student-athletes have finished top five in the NCAA Division II Team Works community service competition each of the last six years, including three community service national championships.
We extend our appreciation to you, the loyal fans of the Wonder Boys and Golden Suns. The many and varied achievements of our student-athletes would not be possible without your support of our intercollegiate athletics program. Thank you for being part of the team.
Enjoy today’s game and please let us know if there is anything we can do to enhance your stadium experience.
Sincerely,
Dr. Robin E. Bowen PresidentARKANSAS TECH 2022 FOOTBALL

Dr. Robin E. Bowen was unanimously elected the 12th president of Arkansas Tech University by the Arkansas Tech Board of Trustees on April 22, 2014. She took office on July 1, 2014.
The institution has developed and enacted two strategic plans (2016-2022 and 2022-25), a new campus master plan and new mission and vision statements under Dr. Bowen’s leadership. Arkansas Tech has achieved significant gains in its four-year graduation rate for firsttime freshmen on the ATU campus in Russellville and the three-year graduation rate at ATU-Ozark Campus during the Bowen presidency.
During the 2020-21 academic year, Arkansas Tech achieved reaffirmation of its institutional accreditation through the Higher Learning Commission for an additional 10-year period.
ATU has earned national acclaim from the CollegeNET Social Mobility Index as a leading institution in providing students with access to an enhanced economic position following graduation. Arkansas Tech ranked No. 1 in Arkansas on the Social Mobility Index seven consecutive years through 2020. In addition, ATU was named to the Colleges of Distinction Best Colleges cohort for 2021-22 and 2022-23 and U.S. News and World Report selected ATU is the No. 1 public, regional university in Arkansas as part of its 2022 college rankings.
Private support for Arkansas Tech has steadily increased during Dr. Bowen’s tenure as president. Donors provided more than $12.5 million in new gifts and pledges to the ATU Foundation during the 2021-22 fiscal year.
Dr. Bowen is the first female president of a public, fouryear university in Arkansas. She has been identified by the Arkansas Business Publishing Group as one of the Arkansas 250, an annual list of the state’s top influencers and newsmakers. The National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Region IV-West presented Dr. Bowen with its 2020 President's Award, a special recognition reserved for a college or university president who has, over a sustained period of time, advanced the quality of student life on campus.
In 2017, the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville College of Education and Health Professions presented her with an outstanding alumni award in recognition of her achievements in and contributions to higher education.
She was selected as a 2016 recipient of the INSIGHT into Diversity Presidents and Chancellors Giving Back Award, the only national award that honors college presidents and chancellors for their commitment to diversity by giving back to their campus and community.
Dr. Bowen earned the 2016 League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Council 750 President’s Award
in recognition of the diversity and inclusion initiatives Arkansas Tech has established during her administration.
She has previously been recognized as one of AY Magazine’s Most Powerful Women, and she received the Arkansas Traveler certificate from the State of Arkansas.
Dr. Bowen is a board member for the International Women’s Forum, the Russellville Area Chamber of Commerce, the Arkansas River Valley Alliance for Economic Development and the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce.
As is obvious from her volunteer work, Dr. Bowen is passionate about advancing education, at all levels, and enhancing economic development in Arkansas. She received her Doctor of Education degree with an emphasis in higher education administration from Texas Tech University. She also holds a Master of Education degree in rehabilitation counseling from the University of Arkansas and a Bachelor of Science degree in occupational therapy from the University of Kansas.
Dr. Bowen and her husband, Doug, are parents of son, Brock; and daughters, Alexa and Brynn.

Jerry the Bulldog was adopted as Arkansas Tech University campus ambassador by proclamation of the ATU Student Government Association during its meeting at the Doc Bryan Student Services Center on Wednes day, Oct. 23, 2013.
The action by the ATU SGA represented the re-establishment of an Arkansas Tech tradition that had been lost for more than three-quarters of a century.
The original Jerry was a daily part of life at Arkansas Tech in the mid-1930s. He was owned by William O. Young, who oversaw the business affairs of Arkansas Tech as secretary and bursar from 1917-41 and acted as interim president of the college from 1923-25; and his son, Robert A. Young Sr., who grew up to serve as purchasing agent, business manager, vice president for business affairs and vice president for adminis tration and finance at Arkansas Tech from 1941-84 as well as interim president in 1972. Dr. Robert A. Young Jr. has continued his family’s Tech tradition by serving as president of the Arkan sas Tech Foundation and as a loyal supporter of Tech athletics.
The original Jerry spent much of his time on campus at the armory (later known as the Stroupe Building) with National Guard Battery F. The students and guardsmen there adopted Jerry as one of their own.
An article from the Feb. 26, 1936, issue of the Arka Tech student newspaper stated that Jerry was “always present at anything of importance at the armory,” which was a social center of campus at that time and the site of Arkansas Tech home basketball games.
When the original Jerry passed away in late 1937, the headline in the Arka Tech proclaimed “Campus Loses Mascot in Passing of Jerry.”
The first modern Jerry, whose full name is Jerry Charles Young I, was born on July 17, 2013. He is an English bulldog. He was introduced during a Homecoming Saturday ceremony on Oct. 26, 2013, which was the 103rd anniversary of the first day of classes at Arkansas Tech.
Today, Jerry attends a variety of campus events and alumni gather ings as well as Wonder Boys and Golden Suns athletic competitions. In keeping with the original Jerry’s connection to the armed ser vices, Jerry is escorted to many of his official functions by students from the Arkansas Tech U.S. Army ROTC program.
Visit www.atu.edu/jerry to learn more about Jerry the Bulldog.

• Returning to his alma mater as its 17th head coach
• Previously spent time at Tech as a student-athlete, student coach, graduate assistant and wide receivers coach
• Crafted one of the top offenses in the GAC as the offensive coordinator at league-rival Arkansas-Monticello
Kyle Shipp enters into his fourth year as head football coach at Arkansas Tech.
A former Wonder Boys player and assistant coach, Shipp returned to Russellville and initially joined the staff in January 2019 as the team’s offensive coordinator. A few months into his return, Shipp was elevated to head coach following the resignation of Bo Atterberry due to health reasons.
In his three seasons leading the football program, Shipp’s Wonder Boys have only competed in two seasons of action as the entirety of the 2020 season was not played due to the on-going effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In those two seasons, Shipp has amassed a 7-15 overall record.
In 2021, Shipp coached a pair of All-GAC players and improved the team’s win total from the previous season. Overall, the Wonder Boys were also more competitive with three of the defeats being single-possession games with a total point differential of 13 points. They also pushed nationally-ranked Henderson State to overtime, and limited the high-powered offensive attack of Harding to some of their lowest marks of the season.
During his first year leading the program in 2019, the Wonder Boys were able to produce an important three game win streak that helped them finish the season strong.
Additionally, that year, Tech landed five players on the GAC All-Conference team.
Prior to his return to his alma mater, Shipp spent five seasons (2014-2018) as the offensive coordinator at Great American Conference rival Arkansas-Monticello.
Shipp’s UAM offenses continually improved over his time in Monticello, with this last year’s Boll Weevil squad averaging 398.6 yards per game - the second-highest mark in the GAC. Two Boll Weevils made all-conference as UAM posted its first winning season since 2008.
Two of Shipp’s UAM offenses averaged over 400 yards per game, and in 2017, former NFL wideout Jalen Tolliver was named GAC Offensive Player of the Year.
During his time at UAM, Shipp mentored eleven all-Great American Conference players.
Prior to his time at UAM, Shipp was on staff at Tech as the wide receivers coach for three seasons (2011-2013). During his first stint in Russellville, Shipp helped the Wonder Boys offense average 30 points and 400 yards of total offense per game during a 2012 season that featured former Montreal Alouettes quarterback Tanner Marsh. Additionally, his kickoff return team of 2011 led NCAA Division II in returns for touchdowns with three. He also coached a pair of all-conference receivers during those three seasons in Russellville.
ARKANSAS TECH 2022 FOOTBALL
Prior to returning to Arkansas Tech in 2011, Shipp served two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Arkansas State under Steve Roberts. With the Red Wolves, Shipp helped coach an offense that set nine school records during the 2010 season, and aided the team to a No. 43 national rank and No. 2 Sun Belt Conference rank in total offense (4,841 yards). That season, he worked under then offensive coordinator Hugh Freeze as A-State installed the spread no-huddle offense that has been a trademark of a Freeze offense
Shipp began his coaching career as a student assistant at Arkansas Tech in 2006 and was promoted to graduate assistant for the 2007 and 2008 seasons. During those three seasons, Shipp had his hand in coaching several aspects of the team, including defensive backs, special teams, receivers, quality control and quarterbacks. He also assisted with recruiting during those seasons.
The Morrilton, Ark. native played three seasons at Arkansas Tech from 2003-05 as a receiver and was a part of the Wonder Boys’ NCAA Division II playoff team in 2004. He holds a pair of degrees from ATU, a bachelor’s degree in history and political science obtained in 2007 and a master’s degree in college student personnel obtained in 2009. He is married to the former Krystal Carr of Russellville. The couple have a daughter and son and reside in Russellville.

Josh lAWson @JWlAWson1
Josh Lawson enters his fourth year at Arkansas Tech as the program’s defensive coordinator and secondary coach.
In his time at Tech, Lawson has coached three All-Great American Conference players on the defensive side of the ball.
Prior to arriving at Tech, Lawson spent two seasons at Stephen F. Austin where he was the linebackers coach. In his final year in Nacogdoches, Lawson mentored AllSouthland Conference safety Alize Ward, who ranked 17th in the league with 7.2 tackles per game. Aretavious Hendrix and Trenton Gordon were All-Southland Conference honorable mention picks under his tutelage.
During Lawson’s first year in Texas’ oldest town, his linebacker corps featured a trio of talented players in junior Ryan Woods and sophomores Anthony Jacobs and Teddy Britton. The three combined for 160 total tackles, including 17 tackles for loss, providing a stout wall in the heart of defensive coordinator Jeff Byrd’s defensive scheme. Lawson’s linebackers played a pivotal role in helping SFA to rank fifth in the league in red zone defense as opponents scored less than 80 percent of time when reaching the Lumberjacks’ 20-yard line. The group also created quarterback pressure and contributed in pass coverage, aiding SFA to allow just 210 passing yards per game in conference play, which was fifth-best in the Southland Conference in that category.
Lawson previously spent eight seasons at fellow GAC institution Southern Arkansas, including his last five as the Muleriders’ defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach. Under Lawson’s guidance, Southern Arkansas saw significant improvement defensively, allowing just 24.4 points per game and 319.9 yards per contest in 2016.
In his first season as defensive coordinator in 2012, Lawson helped engineer a significant turnaround in the Southern Arkansas’ defensive efforts. The Muleriders ranked at least 50 spots higher in the national rankings in all five major defensive categories from 2011, including ranking sixth nationally in rushing defense per game, a rise of 120 spots.
During his time in Magnolia, Arkansas, Lawson also worked with the Muleriders’ linebackers before making the transition to defensive backs prior to the 2015 season. In his eight seasons at SAU, Lawson saw over a dozen of his players earn All-Great American Conference honors. Among those included All-American defensive back Don Unamba, who spent time with the NFL’s St. Louis Rams and has been a mainstay in the Canadian Football League (CFL) with stops playing for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2014-15), Saskatchewan Roughriders (2015), Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2017-18), Edmonton Eskimos (2019) and the Ottawa Redblacks (2020-pres.).
Prior to his time at Southern Arkansas, Lawson spent two seasons at UAB, working with the Blazers’ linebackers. His two years in Birmingham were preceded by a oneyear stint at fellow FCS institution Idaho State of the Big Sky Conference, where he served as the Bengals’ defensive line coach. Lawson also spent one year at Walker High School in Jasper, Alabama, filling the roles of co-offensive coordinator, special teams coordinator and wide receivers coach.
Lawson began his coaching career at Alabama, his alma mater, in 2001, where he was a student assistant coach for two seasons before stepping into a graduate assistant position for the 2003 and 2004 campaigns. While in Tuscaloosa, Lawson assisted in two top20 recruiting classes and was a part of the Crimson Tide’s 2001 Independence Bowl and 2004 Music City Bowl teams.
A native of Berry, Alabama, Lawson earned both of his degrees from Alabama, achieving his bachelor’s degree in secondary education in 2003, followed by his master’s in sport management in 2004. He is married to the former Meredith Jones.

Offensive Coordinator
4th Year
Arkansas State (2011)
Ryan Trevathan enters his fourth year at Arkansas Tech and is in his third year as offensive coordinator.
Trevathan joined the Wonder Boys’ staff in January 2019 as the wide receivers coach. Prior to the 2020 season, which was not played due to COVID-19, Trevathan was promoted to offensive coordinator. In his first full year of game action as OC in 2021, Trevathan engineered an offensive unit that averaged 347.8 ypg of total offense. That overall production was a balanced effort as the passing game averaged 203.6 ypg and the running game racked up 144.2 ypg.
Prior to coming to Tech, Trevathan spent two years as the offensive coordinator at Pearl River Community College (Poplarville, Miss.) and two other years pervious to that stint as the OC at Northeast Mississippi Community College (Booneville, Miss.).
After his inaugural season in Poplarville in 2017, eight offensive Wildcats signed with four-year programs, including offensive linemen Gerald Bell (Troy) and Tyrin Arceneaux (Nicholls State), Jamarcus Holmes (Tusculum College), Tremaine Chatman (Tusculum College), Tyler Harris (North Carolina-Pembroke), receiver Malcolm Staten (ArkansasMonticello) and running back Caleb Batie (Missouri Southern State). One of PRCC’s biggest success stories in 2017 was the emergence of quarterback Markevion Quinn. The dynamic quarterback didn’t hold a four-year offer out of high school, but after passing for 943 yards and six touchdowns and running for 879 yards and 17 scores, Quinn signed with Memphis prior to the start of the 2018 season.
The Wildcat offense proved to be one of the best in school history with Trevathan’s guidance. PRCC’s 3,822 total yards were the eighth-most in school history, while the team’s 2,399 yards rushing were the most since 1994.
At Northeast Mississippi, Trevathan’s 2015 offense averaged 301 yards per game and scored 24 total touchdowns. The Tigers improved drastically in his encore season, averaging 366.1 yards and finding the end zone a total of 31 times. In just two seasons with NEMCC, Trevathan saw 12 offensive players go on to four-year schools, including quarterbacks Mason Cunningham (Liberty) and Kendrick Doss (Jacksonville State), running backs Kenzie Phillips (Mississippi College) and Tiberias Lampkin (Mississippi College), offensive linemen Jo’Quarius Savage (Louisiana-Monroe), Ethan Smart (Purdue) and Ryan Baysinger (Arkansas-Monticello), tight end Ross Painter (Arkansas State), and receivers Jaylon Fair (Oklahoma-Panhandle), Joe Horn, Jr. (Missouri Western), Donta Armstrong (West Alabama) and Khalid Kornegay (Regina).
Trevathan is a native of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and graduated from Jonesboro High in 2007. He was an undergraduate student assistant coach at Arkansas State during his four years at ASU, graduating in December 2011 with a degree in physical education.
After his time at ASU, Trevathan spent three seasons at Ole Miss, serving as a graduate assistant in 2012-13 and working specifically with tight ends before becoming a full staff member in 2014 as a quality control coach. During his time on the Rebel sideline, Ole Miss produced two of its three best offensive seasons in school history, including a record 6,153 yards in 2013. Under Trevathan’s tutelage, Ole Miss saw tight end Evan Engram become an All-SEC and All-American selection before leaving Oxford as a first-round NFL draft pick by the New York Giants.
Trevathan and his wife, Morgan, have four children, Kaden, Hudson, Ellie and Rowan.

Kurt Corbin enters his 11th overall year on the staff at Arkansas Tech University, returning to his alma mater in 2013. Corbin was previously a member of the Wonder Boys staff in 2005, serving as wide receivers coach.
In his time on the defensive side of the ball on staff at Tech, Corbin has served as the team’s strength and conditioning coach, co-Defensive Coordinator and defensive line coach.
Under his tutelage, Corbin has had his defensive players earn over a dozen All-GAC plaudits, including a GAC Defensive Player of the Year honor for Logan Genz in 2015. In addition to the all-conference recognition, Corbin’s players have also received multiple all-region and AllAmerica honors
Prior to returning to Tech, Corbin spent four years (2009-2012) as the defensive line coach/recruiter at Stephen F. Austin State University (Nacogdoches, Texas), guiding a unit that recorded more sacks over a three-year span than any other unit in Division I. The Lumberjacks won back-to-back Southland Conference titles (2009 & 2010), and during his tenure finished among the nation’s top-20 in tackles for loss and top-10 in sacks.
Before joining the SFA staff, Corbin spent the 2008 season at UT-Chattanooga and the previous two seasons as a defensive coach at Northwestern State (2006 & 2007). During his time in Natchitoches, La., Corbin helped produced one of the league’s more intimidating defenses. In 2006, the Demons led the league in six defensive categories, including total defense, rushing defense, pass defense efficiency, opponent first downs and opponent third downs. Corbin helped produce two of the better players in the nation in AllAmericans Ed Queen and Tori Collins.
Corbin coached the Demon linebackers and took on the added responsibility of defensive coordinator the following season. Northwestern State posted similar numbers leading the SLC in four defensive categories. The Demons finished the year tops in the league in total defense, pass defense, opponent first downs and opponent third downs.
Corbin began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Northwestern State in 2001 and spent two season there. In 2003, Corbin was named the defensive line and linebackers coach at Arkansas-Monticello where he stayed through the 2004 season. A year later, he spent his first year as an assistant coach at Tech in 2005.
Corbin received his bachelor’s degree from Arkansas Tech in 2001 and graduated with a master’s degree from Northwestern State in 2003.

Sports Medicine is an integral part of any athletics program, and the same is true at Arkansas Tech University. It is the sports medicine team consisting of professional doctors and trainers and the athletes themselves that help Tech play at its physical best week after week.
Brett “Duke” Waldon is entering his 12th year at Arkansas Tech as the head athletic trainer and associate athletic director. In his duties at Tech, Waldon is responsible for providing medical coverage for all of the school’s 11 men’s and women’s athletic teams, including serving as the athletic trainer for the Wonder Boys football, men’s basketball, and the men’s and women’s golf teams.
Waldon, who is a native of Fort Smith, Ark., returned to Tech after spending two years as the head athletic trainer at Langston University. In his first stint at Tech, Waldon spent three years as an assistant athletic trainer, where he served as the athletic trainer for both the football and men’s basketball teams. He began his athletic career as an assistant athletic trainer at Ouachita Baptist University.
Waldon is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association (NATA), the Arkansas Athletic Trainers’ Association (AATA), he is also certified in CPR/First Aid/AED and is also a certified member with the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS). He received his masters degree in May 2006 in sports administration from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Ark., and earned his bachelor of science degree in recreation and sports medicine from Henderson State in 1996.
Both Dr. Robin Kirby and Dr. Neylon Pilkington at in their second year as the Wonder Boys' team physicians. Dr. Kirby, a native of Russellville, graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and then attended medical school at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock. She has been a physician here in the River Valley for the last 18 years and is certified with the American Board of Pediatrics.
Dr. Pilkington, an Arkansas native, is a graduate of the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock. He has been practicing medicine in Russellville for over 20 years and is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.
Dr. Bruce Brown is in his 27th year with Tech, serving as the team’s orthopedic doctor. Brown comes to Russellville following a one-year arthroscopic and sports medicine fellowship in Plano, Texas. He received his medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in 1985 and completed his internship and orthopedic residency at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington, and was Chief of Orthopedics at Fort Leonard Wood Army Hospital in Missouri. He is director of the Arkansas Orthopedic Center in Russellville.

It was Sept. 21, 1968, when Dr. Stan Teeter first stood on the sideline of an Arkansas Tech football game as the school’s official team doctor. Prior to his retirement in December of 2000, Teeter spent 154 Saturday afternoons or nights on the same sideline – a span of some 33 years.
He examined some 6,000 student-athletes over the years and played a major role in keeping those young men and women healthy. As a result, Tech’s athletic teams won 48 conference championships during his time as team doctor.
Teeter practiced in Russellville between 1965-2000 and he was a full-time family practitioner with Millard-Henry Clinic. Before joining Millard-Henry Clinic, he served five years as a flight surgeon in the United States Navy.
Dr. Stanley Teeter Team Doctor EmeritusBefore his retirement in 2000, Teeter was selected by the readers of The Courier as “Best Doctor” in the Arkansas River Valley. In 2009, Arkansas Tech University dedicated the Stanley D. Teeter Training Center in the Hull Building after Dr. Teeter.
It is the goal of the sports medicine-athletic training staff to provide the student-athletes, participating in intercollegiate athletics at Arkansas Tech University, with the highest standard of medical care possible both on the field and in the athletic training facilities.
The health of every student-athlete at Arkansas Tech University is the primary concern of the Tech Sports Medicine-Athletic Training staff, a group that covers every facet of comprehensive healthcare. From emergency medical care throughout the functional return to play, the sports medicine-athletic training staff serves the many needs of the Tech student-athletes. The staff is constantly updating knowledge on the latest in sports medicine and athletic training techniques through seminars and clinics.
Under the guidance of Head Athletic Trainer Brett “Duke” Waldon and assistant Cesiley Rideau, the Tech sports medicine-athletic training staff offers the most comprehensive health care with a special emphasis placed on injury prevention methods. The sports medicine-athletic training staff offers daily services and care for all Tech student-athletes. The Athletic Training staff are all certified members of the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATA) and Arkansas-licensed practitioners in cooperation with orthopedic and internal medicine physicians.
Tech student-athletes receive highly specialized medical care when required from our team physicians Dr. Robin Kirby, Dr. Neylon Pilkinton and Dr. Bruce Brown. Aside from our team physicians, Tech studentathletes have access to the Tech Student Health Center located in Dean Hall, as well as St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, Millard-Henry Clinic, and other consulting specialty physicians and health care facilities located in the area. They provide a comprehensive team approach in the delivery of health care services to the Tech student-athletes.

Tabbed as Interim Athletic Director in August 2019, Davis led the ATU Athletic Department through some of the most challenging circumstances imaginable.
Just a few months into her role as Interim AD, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic took hold in the United States and in the middle of March 2020, collegiate sports were abruptly suspended for the remainder of the athletic year. Over the next few months, Davis worked alongside athletic leaders and medial professionals within the Great American Conference and the NCAA to find ways to facilitate a safe and healthy return to competition for all sports at Arkansas Tech.
Following a conference-wide decision to postpone fall sports in 2020 to spring 2021, Davis continued to work hard to ensure that resumption of competition would be done so in a safe and healthy manner. In January of 2021, Arkansas Tech resumed competition and practice in all sports.
Despite the challenges throughout her time as Interim Athletic Director, Davis continued to lead the athletic department forward and played an integral role in improving the department’s fundraising efforts with numerous financial gifts and pledges secured to benefit the more than 300 student-athletes at Arkansas Tech. The projects that Davis has spearheaded fundraising efforts for include facility upgrades, scholarship opportunities for studentathletes and overall enhancement of the studentathlete experience.
Davis' leadership during the unprecedented time as Interim AD also yielded success in competition as Arkansas Tech has captured Great American Conference regular season and/ or postseason championships in volleyball, women's basketball, men's golf, baseball and softball as well as an NCAA Division II Central Region title in women's golf and an NCAA Division II national championship in men's golf.
The ATU Athletic Department also continued to enjoy success in the classroom under Davis. Spring 2022 marked the 10th consecutive semester in which ATU studentathletes achieved a cumulative grade point average above 3.0.
As she was serving as Interim Athletic Director, Davis remained the head coach of Golden Suns tennis, but has stepped aside from that role now that she is full-time athletic director.
ARKANSAS TECH 2022 FOOTBALL
In 18 years as head coach, Davis became the winningest coach in Arkansas Tech women's tennis history with a career record of 206-154. Davis and the Golden Suns posted a winning record in 13 of her last 15 seasons. The 2021-22 season marked the 14th consecutive year in which Arkansas Tech played postseason tennis.
Under Davis, Arkansas Tech claimed three regular-season conference titles and one conference tournament championship, including both championships in the inaugural year of the Great American Conference. The Suns also recorded a 2-2 record in NCAA regional play.
Davis coached over 50 all-conference picks, three conference player of the year selections and five conference freshman of the year honorees. She also was a four-time Great American Conference Coach of the Year.
Off the court, Arkansas Tech was named to the ITA All-Academic Team five of her last six years, and over 50 student-athletes have received conference academic honors. The Golden Suns also represented the Central Region with the ITA Community Service Award in 2017 and 2018, totaling 635 hours of community service.
In the summer of 2019, Davis was named chair of the NCAA National Tennis Committee and served until the conclusion of the 2021-22 year.
Davis' tenure as coach followed a four-year run as a Golden Suns tennis player, where she captured allGulf South Conference honors.
A native of Paris, Ark., Davis lives in Russellville.
