JUVENILE DETENTION CENTRE Centre for juvenile delinquents Location Area Built up

: Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh : 4.4 acres : 6350m2

INTRO: “Youth offending has been and still is a social problem across many countries; it is a problem that affects and shapes the very fabric of society. The problem with the youth in modern society is both a national concern and an important subject for academic study.”

The creation of Juvenile Detention Centers was aimed at rehabilitation and protection of young offenders from adult offenders influence. However noble these intentions were, it has become worrying that these centers in India are dehumanizing and not conducive for rehabilitation. This thesis interrogates Juvenile Correctional Centre’s as an architectural typology, and explores their panoptic design philosophy and its effects. It investigates the architectural and spatial qualities that can facilitate the rehabilitation of young offenders.

CONCEPT & FORM DEVELOPMENT: As this centre is a place where a child is going to spend few months to few years, the design should evolve as a quilt of many small events, of small spaces and places, to hide, to collide, climb, roll, run into and out of, to satiate curiosities of a forming mind, allowing its idyllic imagination and wonder. A space where children from diffrent region of the state or even country will come together to form a group, all with different and and maybe rare qualities and hidden talents and in future these larger group will become a part of our country and in turn shape us. The main idea is to use the negetive spaces of the site and them convert them into positive spaces just as we do in juvenile detention centre. Art immitates life. The end product has to be aesthetically pleasing, apeeling to the user and public, sustainable and follow the function it is designed for.

Replacing the necessary trees instead of cutting for the development.

Initial form derived as a resultant of avoiding the axis lines and hydrology lines.

Final geometrical form derrived as a result of developemnt of initaial form.

SECURITY ASPECT: Boundary

Concrete

•The boundary heights provided is 4 m tall with polish finish, so as to avoid the gripping on the boundary wall. •The boundary wall is also inclined 10deg inside to avoid any climbing.

•Concrete grade 60 is used for the boundary to avoid any emergency. •Low maintainence and rigid.

•The line divide the site into two parts public and private zones to avoid any unassisted contacts

•Security check-up points & watch stations on the site. 08

ZOSTEL International Tourism Hostel Design Location Area

: Chandanpur, Odisha, India : 3300m2

INTRO: International tourism hostel designs create unique hospitality and innovative lodging concepts, creating that special place, where travellers feel at ease, and don’t want to leave anymore. Our mission is to take people on a journey of imagination and comfort by putting life into spaces. Each project requires its own identity and character, merging new ideas with local influences. The location of the hostel has been selected as Chandanpur, which acts as the transport hub and main junction before reaching various art villages around. It is just 10kms from Puri and is hence the perfect location for tourists seeking a more authentic experience. The people staying there would like to explore the art villages around apart from using the training institute.

: Kenya : 1850m2

INTRO: Freelance work for an architect based in Kenya. The aim was to design a multi themed cafe/ restaurant whose main theme was Japanese, Thai, Indonesian, Indian and a game zone along with lighting fixtures and working drawing and material pallete. We were group of 2, I and Neha, together did this project in span of 1 month. Provided here are the renders and material pallete for the same. Theme: •Tropical •Bohemian •Indian •Gamezone
