Uttaranchal is a place full of scenic attractions and places and Nainital is no exception. Nainital is a beautiful hill station that has long been admired for its virtues. It was one of the favorite summer resorts of the British and they are the ones who developed this place. At an altitude of 1,938 meters, Nainital offers a break from chores of urban places. It has the Naini Lake in its center from which its name is derived. It falls in the Kumaon region and popularly known as the Lake District. Nature has blessed it with plenty and hotels in Nainital remain full throughout the year as hundreds of domestic and International tourists fly over to this hill station.


Nainital is divided in two parts by the lake. The northern part is called the Mallital and the southern part is called Tallital. In 1880, the whole town was destroyed because of a landslide. It was rebuilt by the British. Kathgodam is the nearest railway station for reaching Nainital. It is 35 km away. Regular buses from Delhi ply to Nainital. Pantnagar airport is 2 hours away from the hill station. You can also hire a motorbike from Haldwani or Kathgodam. There are many places to visit in Nainital. Some of those are: 1. Naini Lake - Also called the Nainital Lake, this is the favorite place for boating. The lake is the center of devotion as well, since the origin of the lake is associated with Hindu mythology . The lake offers a splendid view of the place which is perched amongst the forests. 2. Naina Devi temple - At one of the corners of the lake is situated the Naina Devi temple. It is a place of devotion and people often offer prayers here before beginning their sightseeing adventure around the place. 3. The Mall Road - This is a historic place for the hill station as it is a popular zone for shopping and strolls along the lake. This place offers a nice scenery at sunset when colors seem to merge from sky into the water and the artificial lights in the shops become resplendent as it gets darker. 4. Nainital Zoo - This is a place for fun and recreation as the zoo showcases a diversity of flora. It is an interesting place for kids too.


5. Eco Cave Gardens - This is a nice place to visit in Nainital. Located at Sukhtal on Kaladhungi Road, this natural park has a series of interconnected hanging gardens and rocky caves. There is a musical fountain as well. 6. Snow View - From 2270 m elevation, this place offers a great view of Naina Devi peak. 7. Gurney House - On Ayarpatta Hills, this place that was once Jim Corbett’s home is now a museum. 8. Sariyatal - This is a stream flowing on the Kaladhungi Road. The water is too chilled and it is a nice place for excursions during summers.
