Founded by Asiatic Society of Bengal, the museum houses a 4,000 years old Mummy, fossils of prehistoric animals, rare antiques and collections. All total it has six sections. It is also known with the foundation of this museum in 1814, the museum movement started in the country. So, it is a must-visit place when you are in Kolkata. The museum remains open all day except Monday. After exploring such a heavy and important place, chill your mind in New Market area. Gariahat and New Market are the two marketplaces which are an apt place for shopaholic. Gariahat is situated in South Kolkata and New Market is in Esplanade just near the museum.
