Alumni logo incorrect usage

Incorrect Usage

Maintaining the integrity of the Anderson University alumni logo is key to building a strong identity. It must be presented in a consistent and legible manner. Do not alter the logo in any way by changing or adding elements or using only portions of it. Never change the logo’s color or warp or distort it. Do not create a custom logo for specific purposes. This dilutes our identity and is trademark infringement.

This secondary mark should be used only in tandem with the institutional logo in alumni communications such as print materials, website pages, and email communications. This secondary logo is permitted to stand alone only in unique, informal circumstances such as an imprint on a giveaway item or t-shirt.

Retro Raven logo

The Retro Raven logo (shown to the right) is a secondary mark for the university, reserved primarily for use in informal alumni, athletic, or spirit-oriented communications. The logo may be used by any university department, program, or recognized student organization. In any formal communications it can be used only in conjunction with the institutional logo.

About the Retro Raven

Originally designed for the university in 1977, the Raven has existed in various forms over the decades. In 2019 the old drawings were revisited, revised, and redesigned. These changes were both to improve the visual look of the mark and better reflect an anatomical raven.

Standards for reproduction

The Retro Raven logo may not be reconstructed or altered in any way. An important standard for production includes that the beak of the bird always points left. It is never flipped to point the opposite direction. The logo is to be reproduced from high-resolution digital files provided by Marketing and Communication or by submitting a request through marcomm@anderson.edu.

Color standards for the Retro Raven logo

The following color standards for the reproduction of the Retro Raven logo will help to promote a consistent image and provide high-quality presentation.

Applications for the logo include:

• Informal spirit-oriented soft and hard goods for all departments • Informal communications and marketing materials for alumni and athletics

Logo encroachment

In order to maintain a visual space around the logo and thereby enhance its legibility, a specific guideline has been established. A minimum distance is established between the logo and any other graphic element. As demonstrated to the right, the minimum space is defined by the height of the Raven’s fist in the logo. Maintaining this as the minimum distance from other graphic elements will allow the logo to stand alone, uncluttered by other distracting elements.

Note: This guideline accommodates most general applications and is designed to prevent unnecessary abuse or misuse of the logo. Discretion and good judgment should be used in all cases. In instances where uncertainty exists, Marketing and Communication should be contacted for clarification.
