I grew up in Streatham – it’s in South West London in-between Brixton and Croydon. Predominantly the things I saw and experienced were pretty dark – it was a side of London I got to know, all of us (my friends) would get beaten up, robbed, sometimes stabbed. This was all during the graffiti era in London 1990’s-2007, shoplifting clothes, alcohol and spray paint, bunking trains, eating junk food…

I read somewhere once that we should photograph the world before it disappears – well, London definitely isn’t the same anymore… The pictures I captured hopefully channel a subtle feeling of melancholia to express what I felt growing up in London. do not speak about London as a whole.. The Master’s Project is about revisiting the old places that people have ever lived in. There is not an exact story among the images, while I let my audiences to imagine what is going on around these scenes. Through the atmospheric and mysterious images, I hope that the viewers can find some clues about their forgotten memories and wander in the past, with a feeling of nostalgia or strangeness. Alongside the project work, I have been doing several personal works with a variety of media, which are inspired by specimen, the universe, natural surroundings and landscape.

L AGUNA & NEWPORT BEACH, SOUTHERN C ALIFORNIA Jack Orton — BA (Hons) Commercial Photography Level 5 The series of images were shot around the area of Laguna and Newport Beach in Southern California. This area is known for its main coastal high street and beaches which attract a huge amount of tourists every year. Despite the natural beauty of these areas I was drawn to the side streets and the wabi-sabi like objects found on the beach side. As William Eggleston famously said, “I am at war with the obvious”, this was something I wanted to bring to these images. Shot on Bronica 6x45 120 Ektar.

The Haptic Music Machine is a construct representing a physical analysis of instrumentation with the ability to create sound from material elements. The subtle balance of silence and sound, the absent and the being, that defines rhythm, melody and the absoluteness of space. The Haptic Music Machine is the embodiment and distillation of architectural, acoustic and musical research and performance. The machine is dependant on existing musical objects but is unique in its form and sonic output.
