Letter from the Editor Hello, Bonjour, Ola, Ciao! I hope you're well and wherever you are in the world, welcome to our crazy creative world. Well, what can I say? You will see throughout this edition, we have expanded our minds, thought outside the box and re-defined our brand. As always we love music and this is the centre of all features, however, the way in which we interpret this passion has wide variations. In this issue we have a lot of exciting content. Rokuro kicks back with a selection of sneakers great for heading out to the summer festivals. In addition, he finds out the goings on at one of London’s top diverse recording studios. Cessle gets chatting with producer Barber in this month's Hot 6. Malachi clues us up on the latest Abode events. Sarah has a special remembrance editorial respectfully discussing B.B. King's life and music. She also got stuck in to her very first interview with a great NY based band. I have created a musically inspired board of outdoor pieces. We also introduce our new Contributing Editor David, he has a lovely story revolving around a song by Pink. And I am also pleased to announce Andy's promotion in the team to Staff Writer. We also have loads of great music, features and our global festival guide for the summer. Speaking of sunshine, we’re introducing some new developments from Mauritius including a great female DJ and an exciting dance label. I'm noticing a lot of reworks around right now, one of my favourite's which has influence from Whitney Houston is "Somebody" by Natalie La Rose & Jeremih. Also am I the only one who finds the crack kid vine vocal clip really weird on Neyo's “She Knows”? – But I guess it is a good way to get interactive with the digital world. I love my media too and whenever an advertisement has a striking track, I’m the first to find out what it is. The Microsoft HP Spectre x360 ad is accompanied by 20syl – Bet Dap Goom Bown (Boom Bap Festival Beat). The Mercedes-Benz C-Class 2015 advert song is Nina – My Mistake. Both tracks really stand out to me and are rhythmic with interesting styles. Let us know what tracks you're into and what you have planned for summer. We hope you enjoy the magazine, we had fun creating it!

The New Spotify With all eyes on the streaming game, Spotify announced developments to revamp its platform. The new service will find music to match your mood, videos & podcasts and running tracks. Which leads onto Spotify signing their own music with Spotify Originals. It seems with all the discussion over sales and fairness, Spotify are trying to do everything they can to keep their brand a strong contender. In this fast-paced world, Spotify have already been making a loss, this could either boost them up, or they might just be reaching too high.
We'll Feature Your Music In Our Movie, It Only Costs £10k! An independent film company recently sent out a 'golden opportunity' to labels to help give exposure to musicians via their new film. The pitch began smoothly with the company acknowledging the difficulty that musicians face to break out and get heard. They then went on to discuss the film synopsis which revolves around a "music business revenge story". The selected artist would gain exposure, a live performance as well as their merchandise being given out. This all sounds great - so how much will the artist be entitled to for taking part in this exciting movie? Nothing. In fact, the company felt that this opportunity was so special that artists must bid at an auction starting at a minimum of £10,000 to win! There are also further runner-up prizes costing between £500-£2,000. To top it off, the artist will have NO rights & royalties to any of the work and will not get a penny no matter what. Even all expenses like merchandise and CDs must be paid by the artist/label. Speaking for the entire music industry, we politely say.. Jog on! 99
Shark lost it's Groove This is the end for music platform, Grooveshark. The legal battle against Universal Music Group was a turning point for the company, and in effect, they have settled to cease company activities and remove all data. An open-letter from Grooveshark has been released to music fans. "But despite best of intentions, we made very serious mistakes" An apology and full details of exactly what will happen is stated. The company then go on to say, "If you love music and respect the artists, songwriters and everyone else who makes great music possible, use a licensed service that compensates artists and other right holders."

Steve Aoki Ultimate Neck Breaker So we've all been there, you're totally buzzing after your set, dive onto a raft in the crowds, and accidentally break a fan's neck. Whoops! Three years after this shocking incident at the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego, the EDM DJ is being sued. Aoki loves to give a show and often has wild moments to entertain the fans, on this occasion he jumped from the high stage onto a raft in the audience. The fan, Brittany Hickman ended up being knocked to the floor and later found that she had a broken neck. Hard Rock is also being sued, no comments have been released on this incident. Brittany wants justice, and for the world to know her story.

Rough Copy - Same Formula (Zed Bias Remix) Sexy RnB given a UK Garage spin. This brings back the old school style reminding us of Craig David & Artful Dodger classics. Why does this style work? It's simple, bumpy and sexy, just great playful creativity. Really like this sultry mix for the summer playlist. Legendary UKG producer and present day remix beast Zed Bias brings his Breakbeat Garage vibes to Rough Copy’s new single ‘Same Formula’. With a colourful musical career so far including deportation, working with Gary Barlow & their label Epic (part of Sony) folding shortly after the release of their first single ‘Street Love’, Rough Copy return with their first official single in a year ‘Same Formula’. Originally an underground phenomenon, the group were catapulted into public view via The X Factor (gaining a huge fan base that remains to this day). The boys are back with a clear manifesto; to bring the true sound of RnB back to the UK. First in a series of new releases is this RnB classic in the making ‘Same Formula’. Often described as the ‘UK Jodeci’ (a US RnB act enjoying a renaissance right now), their passion for the genre is clear to see and no surprise they have been asked to support to such heavyweights of the scene as US mega star Omarion and UK legends Damage on their up-coming UK tour. Multifaceted artists, Rough copy have been firm favourites on the UK fashion circuit and featured at various events during London Fashion Week 2014 and 2015 (ASOS and Hemsley). The boys also work closely with the Diana Award in mentoring young people and are committed to giving back to their local community in South London. 15
Nick Tangorra Way back when in year 2012, in a place called Long Island, NY, Nick Tangorra Band was found. The group is made up of lead vocalist Nick Tangorra, 17, drummer and musical director Rafe Tangorra, 22, and guitarist Will Ahrens, 22. They have an exciting year ahead including single and EP releases, a summer tour and performances. Their new single “I Want You” recently debuted on Long Island’s WBLI 106.1 FM on May 19 and their EP is set to release later this year which they describe as “each song painting a picture to the listener through its vast differences in energy, emotion and genre.” I got the chance to interview these fresh faces, check out what they said! Do you have any musical acts or artist whom you look up to in your career? • "For me personally it's always been artists like Amy Winehouse, Justin Timberlake, and Bruno Mars that I've looked up to performance wise and vocally. I'll always spend countless hours watching their live performances whether in front of thousands or an intimate setting and just be in awe from not only their incredible talent but just their presence and how they conduct themselves" - NICK • "Jared Leto in my opinion is easily the most artistically gifted person on this 16
earth. His massive talent in songwriting, acting, directing, and photography is a true inspiration to me!" - RAFE • "Musically speaking, I would say I look up to Paul McCartney the most. He's one of my favorite songwriters, performers & musicians altogether. I think his song catalog with the Beatles is undeniably awesome!" - WILL You have some very exciting things coming up, including a summer tour. What are you most looking forward to while being on the road and what can the fans expect? • "This summer, I'm most looking forward to seeing & visiting new cities on tour. Whenever we're on the road, I love exploring new places & seeing new things. It's going to be even more awesome to finally meet fans we've only spoken to on social media, but have yet to meet in person!" - WILL • "I think what I'm looking forward to on this summer tour is meeting all of the fans from each stop because without them this wouldn't even be possible. They are the most incredible supporters and genuine people I've ever been so lucky to come across." - NICK • "I'm looking forward to all the food! Since food and traveling go hand and hand I'm excited to hit up awesome local spots and food stands where the band can experience some great food in each city!" - RAFE Can you talk a little bit about your new single? Is it directed towards a certain someone? www.AudiationMagazine.com
"Well oddly enough, the song was originally written as a gift to my girlfriend for our 1 Year Anniversary! Since I'm not much of a singer I had asked Nick if he could lend me his vocal talent for a recording I was going to send to her. Nick immediately fell in love with the song and so we sent it to the rest of our team. Turns out they loved it too! So we ran into the studio, Will and Nick added some great parts to the song and it made it on to Top 40 Radio!" - RAFE Nick, Rafe, and Will also lend their support to Rock Out Autism founded by member Rafe. A humanitarian benefit that raises money for the Fay J. Lindner Center which offers Autism services throughout Long Island.
you or have you tried combining your music with the benefit? • "I like to consider myself a humanitarian for the countless hours I devote to Rock Out Autism, and I'm always looking for new ways to utilize my music as a means to help those in need. The Power of Music is constantly surprising us all!" - RAFE • "My favorite part of it all is when we get to go down to the autism centers and meet with all of children and young adults there. We can just sit there and talk with them. We'll also perform for them, but eventually they begin performing for us! I always invite them onto the stage and they literally take over! It's the best thing in the world! They all sing the songs or maybe some of them will ask if they can play

mixtape which is titled ‘South Of the Thames’ which has already been downloaded over 7,000 times by UK Rap fans across the world. All this with little or no promo. The release which is rumored to be the 1st edition to a 2 part series, has shot Jae Boogs and his right hand man Dipz, who is also a solo artist, into the world of mixtape fame. The duo have now been receiving a number of bookings from as far as Eastern Europe and they continue to carve their way through the underground rap scene.
Jae Boogz Over the past year Rapper & songwriter/producer Jae Boogz has been making his way through London’s underground music scène showing ruthless determination while using his unique voice, lyric writing style and slogan “UKnW” to stand out in the over saturated market of underground rap music. After releasing his sophomore mixtape in 2013 ‘Mr 365’, Jae Boogz continued to release a flurry of net videos as well as being featured on a number of Road Rap Bangers one of which was Chain Smoke Ent’s Fastline which reached over 40,000 view in less than 2 weeks. Keeping the buzz alive has seemed effortless for this south London native. Although his growing online presence has helped gain the attention of a number of veteran artists and music industry professionals, one online profile that most of his fans seem to seriously appreciate is his Soundcloud. This is where Boogz makes sure to upload a number of unreleased songs for his fans both before and after his official mixtape releases, which are usually distributed by the UK's number one mixtape site Hoodtapes.co.uk. April saw the surprize releases of his 3rd
Some critics have put his current success down to his work ethic and continuous passion to create heavy hitting and exciting road rap music while still keeping his concepts true to life relatable to his audience. I feel that this is definitely a fair point. While others have put this down to the heavily co-ordinated post release campaigns via his Instagram and Twitter accounts. Not only has he continuously uploaded short clips of his music for views to preview but Boogz has also continued to give away unreleased solo material via soundcloud, something that is rarely done. Either way, one thing is for sure - This London based rapper has taken his time to find himself through a process of continuously feeding his fan base with music and working with a number of other artists within his field. DJ Kicks Over the Spring/Summer 2015 Audiation Magazine will be delving into Festival/Dance/Beach Party fashion wear.. I've been a Sneaker Collector and fan for many years, so thought I'd give you a run down of my favourite pairs that are essentially inspired by warmer temperatures coming out this spring and summer.. So If you are off to Ibiza, a great festival this summer, or simply looking for a great new pair of sneakers - you will definitely want at least one of these pairs in your suitcase! Kicking off (excuse the pun) I have to mention two Saucony packs, The first one inspired by classic ice cream flavours mint chocolate chip and strawberry & vanilla. Saucony.com
The Strawberry Vanilla version come in Pink, Red and a very Light Yellow. Essentially a Vvariation of the G9 Shadow 5000, crafted of high quality buttery plush suade, with the upper colour bringing shades of strawberry with additional red detailing.
£90
So if you a big fan of Saucony like I am, you will know exactly what I’m talking about. Both shoes come in a custom cone waffle designed box and have custom designed insoles. It is a really nice touch and accentuates the ice cream theme further. Both versions are only available in selected Saucony stockists, so if you are on the look out for them you might want to head over to eBay as by the time this magazine issue is out they will probably both be sold out! 24
The second shoe in the pack is the Mint Choc Chip colourway.. Really nice light green with black detailing, The mid-sole is white with black speckles, This release actually combines the Shadow 6000 upper with a Grid 9000’s Sole,
www.AudiationMagazine.com
Next up also by Saucony and inspired by all things summery and tropical is the Bermuda Pack, known around the world for its stunning pink sandy beaches, amazing turquoise water and unique island culture, So Saucony included all this when selecting materials and colourways for this Bermuda Pack. One shoe being the more well known Shadow 6000 model, and the Lesser known DXN Trainer. Both models coming ashore on 22nd June 2015, so check out you favourite Saucony stockist if you like the look of these. Again these aren’t available on the high street so check specialist shoes online or follow Saucony originals on Instagram for all the latest news, As in my opinion Saucony are ahead of the game at the moment and are coming out with amazing collaborations with the likes of Extra Butter in New York, Bodega in Boston, and Feature Boutique with their Las Vegas collection.
£79
£95
Keeping with this month's theme, all things summery and tropical, we must mention the new Vans Originals Hawaiian Floral Range 2015. Some gorgeous vibrant variations of the floral theme on these, All the original vintage models including the SK8 High, slip ons are included, They are available at your local Vans store or at Schuh on the high street. The theme comes with snapback caps as well, Cool stuff for girls and boys.
£15
£36
Another great little buy to go with your floral Vans are these rather cool Translucent Spicoli and Lolligagger sunglasses, fun and cheap as they only retail for around 15 quid, so it doesn’t matter if you sit on them after one afternoon on the beach.. Vans.co.uk 25
Next up is Addidas and to tie In with all things musical is their continued collaboration with superstar Pharrell Williams. The brand new Jacquard collection has a very different look from their past collaborations. The collection will Include three different colours of the iconic Stan Smith shoe, all of which have Jacquard detailing. Matching tracksuit tops will be released alongside the shoes so definitely one to watch out for. http://www.thedropdate.com/releases/adidas -originals-x-pharrell-williams-stan-smithjacquardpack
£530 £130
Also up from Addidas is this rather crazy ZX FLUX release. The upper colours on this looks like a photo print graffic and the Addidas signature stripes seem to be floating above the shoe. Its a very modern update to the classic ZX running shoe family. I don’t have a pair of these and I did pop into my local addidas stockist to take closer inspection but they didn’t have them in stock :( But check the picture and I'll leave a link to were you can buy them if you're daring enough.. I'd like to buy a pair just for the hell of it! Adidas.com
A little home furnishing company, Spilled, has created the Grail Rug which costs all your favourite shoes on the market including Saucony, Nike, Puma, Addidas! So if you have $250 dollars spare to buy a rug, I'd suggest you purchase this one. Spilled.co

£85 In 1989 , The Long Island rapping trio, DE La Soul boldly announced their arrival on the burgeoning Hip Hop scene, With an abundance of clever word play, and a perfect choice of eclectic samples and unique point of positive views which the rap genre had never seen before. The Result was the DA.I.S.Y age, short for “Da Inner Sound Ya’ll”. To keep in with our musical theme at Audiation Magazine, and commemorating the 10 year anniversary of the original slam dunk high, are the rather splendid Nike Drunk Low Premium SB DE La Soul release. DE La Soul dunk is back, I have to admit I’m not a massive fan of Nike in general but I think these are pretty cool. Nike.com

One of the biggest brands around at the moment, back in vogue, is ASICS. These are the new Gel Lite 3, that are exclusive to Size, inspired by the Iris flowers. The shoe is presented using a lovely selection of purple shades which mimics the gradient on the flower petals. The shoe is sat on a white mid-sole, with purple and yellow main soles. Really great looking summer shoe this one. Available at Size online only for girls and boys. Size.co.uk

Glitter in the Air Have you ever fed a lover with just your hands? Closed your eyes and trusted, just trusted? There I was curled up beside you. Nothing else mattered. It was just you and me. My nostrils flared as I caught a whiff of your alluring scent. I went into a state of complete euphoria. I squirmed around and snuggled up tighter against you. The warmth of your body embraced mine as I sensed the rhythm of your peaceful breathing. You were without a doubt more than everything I had ever hoped for, and the only thing that I’d ever need. I slowly leaned in and kissed your forehead. Have you ever thrown a fist full of glitter in the air? Have you ever looked fear in the face and said, “I just don’t care”? “You know how much I love you right?” I whispered into your ear. You smiled and nodded in consent before letting your eyes fall shut. I was evidently greatly pleased by your presence and had carelessly committed myself to you. Have you ever felt this way? P!nk continued serenading us faintly in the background. La la la la la la la la... Have you ever wished for an endless night? Lassoed the moon and the stars and pulled that rope tight?

There I was curled up beside you. Nothing else mattered. It was just you and me. I wedged my arm in between a pillow and myself, and propped my head up to try to catch a glimpse of your face. Eyelids closed against the moonlight and your breathing soft and relaxed, all the muscles in your face and body were totally at peace, like a baby in its first throes of slumber. Time stood still as your serene dreams blocked out the care and toil lived out each and every day. Not a twitch, not a spasm, barely any movement of your chest rising and falling with each intake of air such was the depth of your oblivion. The innocence shown on your sleeping face made the world seem to stand still. I slowly leaned forward and kissed your forehead. Have you ever held your breath and asked yourself will it ever get better than tonight? “I love you, baby,” I whispered under my breath. Sinking back into my pillow, I heaved in a deep drag of air, sighed, and smiled to myself. Something happened and I fell head over heels, deeper in love with you. I had completely lost control. That was when I knew love was real; by the way my heart started pounding. Have you ever felt this way? by David Quake Inspired by P!nk’s “Glitter in the Air”.

Remembering B.B. King It was a sad day in the Becker household when we woke up at 4:30 in the morning to the news that B.B. King, the king of blues, passed away. I was heading to my radio show in Chicago, so I felt lucky enough to dedicate the broadcast to him. Especially being born and raised in the home of blues, the city felt blue. Wow, that is a lot of blue in one sentence. As much as I love to see B.B. King back on the iTunes charts after his passing, I think it would be appropriate to dedicate this month’s Sarah’s Thoughts to the King. Riley B. King was born in 1925 on a cotton plantation in Mississippi. He received his first guitar at age 12, self-taught himself and aspired to be a radio musician after listening to a Mississippi Delta blues show called “King Biscuit Time” in 1941. Badabing-badaboom he started performing on Sonny Boy Williamson’s radio program on KWEM in West Memphis, Arkansas, where he started gaining an audience. This grew to him grabbing his own ten minute spot, “Sepia Swing Club,” on another Memphis station WDIA. On this show, he was nicknamed “Beale Street Blues Boy,” then “Blues Boy,” and eventually B.B. In 1949, King started recording songs under Los Angeles-based RPM Records. However, he could not play chords well and always relied on improvisation during live performances. This contract also brought him on national tours, allowing his name to rapidly spread across the states like wildfire. Speaking of fire, he named his guitar Lucille after a fight broke out between two men at a show, which caused a fire. The spark (puns everywhere) of this fight was over a woman named Lucille, so his guitar stood as a reminder to never fight over women. In 1952, he earned his first number 1 Billboard charter, “3 O’Clock Blues,” making him one of the most important names in R&B history. By 1956, he booked 342 contracts, three recording sessions, founding his own label called Blues Boys Kingdom, and produced artists like Millard Lee and Levi Seabury. Safe to say his name was very well-known in the R&B community.

He opened for the Rolling Stones in their 1969 American Tour, introducing him to the rock community. In 1970, he received his first Grammy for “The Thrill is Gone,” which also was listed at 183 on Rolling Stone magazine’s “500 Greatest Songs of All Time.” He was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1980, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 and the Official Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame in 2014. His career was very active and visible, performing over 300 nights a year. For the rest of his career, he was seen touring and performing with many greats like Eric Clapton, with whom they recorded an album titled “Riding with the King,” which won a Grammy for Best Traditional Blues Album. He was given a key to Manchester, Tennessee at the Bonnaroo Festival in 2008. In 2011, he performed at the Glastonbury Music Festival and in the Royal Albert Hall in London, where he recorded a concert video (listed below). In 2012, he was one of the lucky performers at the “In Performance at the White House: Red, White and Blues,” in which President Barack Obama sang part of “Sweet Home Chicago.” His last documented performance was in October 2014 at Chicago’s House of Blues, where he stopped mid-performance. I placed a video of this performance below. Doctors diagnosed exhaustion and dehydration, which prompted a cancelling of all future performances. Less than a year later, he was taken from this world on May 14, leaving an everlasting legacy. Rest in Peace, B.B.

This soon to be summer anthem is filled with hyper-syncopated riffs, stirring drum patterns and a stimulating bass. HOT 6 with Barber
Once upon a time, a man named Barber once learnt to play the keys to Blues and Jazz scales. This wasn’t down to his ability to read or recite music, but down to this man’s natural talent of flamboyant improvisation skills. Drawing his influences from a Samba background, digging in to create natural grooves within his music, Barber has quickly forged a name for himself which is being eyed across Europe. From his first release a remix of Climbers ‘Left Your Love’, Barber has gone on to release further music with labels such as Nurvous, OFF Recordings, Cubism as well as his own imprint Faceless Recordings coowned with Silky. As Barber prepares for his London appearance at Basing House for MOTTO this June, we caught up with the man himself for his take on the Audiation Hot 6.

1st record you ever bought? Prodigy - Music for the Jilted Generation Favourite track you have made? That will be my remix for Depeche Mode 'Should Be Higher'. To get to remix your childhood inspirations is super special and rare. The mix turned out great and smashed it at my gigs. That track definitely marks a special moment in my life so far. Favourite kit for making music? I don't own a lot of out-board gear, so I'm gonna have to say Ableton Live.. even though that’s software not strictly 'gear', it's the hub of my world. However, if the U-he Diva was a piece of gear that would undoubtedly be my favourite. In the past year not a single track of mine is missing this synth. Your Dream Line up (self included) Barber, Maetrik vs Maceo Plex, Green Velvet vs Cajmere and Stimming. Plus: "Steely" Ray Barber (My Dad Jamming with his Pedal Steel guitar!!!) If you had to DJ a 3hr set of a different Genre what would it be? All about the funk baby. Disco Funk, P Funk, Acid Funk, Tech Funk... Well, that and some Brazilica beats. The faster stuff is just like organic Techno! One sentence that defines house and techno music? A religion with no god. 59
