Southstar radio are progressing quite nicely this month, we've just received a grant from the local council to upgrade our equipment in Southstar HQ. We are now pushing ahead with our local community workshops which should be up and running in the next few months. We are really looking forward to potentially bringing through new young talent. We have just put on our timetable the talented Natalie West, an Indie musician and Carl Skalistic, a Ska/Reggae DJ - we look to incorporate more genres of music to our timetable to help bring more listeners to our station. I believe the UK are producing some really talented music, it's good to see new talent come through. I do think there is still some negativity in certain scenes, but hopefully that will change in the coming months. My favourite track at the minute is MNEK & Zara Larsson - Never Forget You, amazing vocals and the production is spot on. - Captain Rosko, Southstar Radio

certainly music we love to create and it’s an organic process, which is why each track is different from the next. Jamie: I got into DJing at 14 and was playing strictly Drum & Bass music back then in 98, I guess I liked it more hyper as a kid! Over the years I’ve grown and got to love many styles for many reasons. Right now, for me the UK Bass scene is coming with the freshest sound, there is a lot of variation and original ideas. We ended up linking with music through Matt's sister, she encouraged us to get together and make music, I was doing my Drum & Bass thing, Matt was doing his House, but the differences in styles we individually have are what make 2RS!

The 2 Rotten Scoundrels production duo have been working their way up in the underground scene and now have an upcoming track with Selena Mai titled "Do I". The single is really different to what's out there right now, a little bumpy, and then you've got interesting dips with the little sounds. The vocals are simply gorgeous creating a great contrast against the rhythm. In the lead up to 2. What are the ideas & inspiration the release, Ruby got to chat with the behind "Do I?” with Selena Mai? guys about their music journey. Well, really we wanted to go back to 1. How did you guys each get into the a time when the UKG sound was music scene and come together? prominent with the soulful singing, the crisp live guitar, it’s just on a pure Matt: I have started DJing about 8 vibe that we both love. On purpose years ago and got into production we kept the track minimal and about 5 years ago. I started off as a stripped down, letting Selena’s House DJ around the South East and vocals take the main focus, she really took the natural step to production. drives the track and her vocals are I met Jamie through my Sister and we perfect for this style. We could of basically decided after the first gone bonkers with the bassline and session together it was going to work. effects, but ‘Do I?’ is not trying to be We gel on all levels musically, both that kind of track, we wanted to have with eclectic tastes over almost all an up-to-date sounding radio friendly genres between us. Collectively the song that was clearly inspired by 2music we make as 2RS is something Steps golden days. I don’t think we would have ever gone towards on our individual paths, it’s 11

I am studying electronic Marvellous Cain, what will the main music production at Point Blank along aims of the label be? with 2RS and our project Yardrock Bass, all of my time is taken up with The main aim is to bring you top music related tasks. It’s brilliant, I love quality bass music. This will be Grime, it! Creating music is the best part of UKG, Bassline, Bass House anything it for me, it’s just fun! that's going to bump in a dance. are top draw and take these classic tracks right up to date. It’s been great to see the different ways the artists have used the original parts in such unique ways. We want to use this platform that Marv has so generously given to us to promote the rising talent in the UK Bass scene. The backing and guidance that Marv provides is hopefully going to make this label a success too and we hope to share it with as many talented artists as possible. It’s a small scene and we should all stick together and push it forwards.

work closely with Selena and will certainly have more productions with her following on from ‘Do I?’. We are both working hard in the studio on other projects away from Bass music, we both enjoy all genres and it’s a great pleasure to be able to write conventional songs for commercial artists. Also we are both studying music production at degree level, so to pass our respective courses and have a long and healthy career in the music industry is the BIG goal. The hidden gems in the House & Techno underground scene. This is a great showcase of the Auxiliary label and artists. Each track has a slight touch of quirkyness whether it be futuristic synth on a warped rhythm or a catchy male vocal on a rhythmic piece. Release Date: 5 October 2015 14

What makes a great duet? A timeless way of collaboration feeding off each other’s tones. The harmonies and contrast between male and females especially create such interest and passion-fueled collaborations. However you cannot expect just any two people to be able to work well together, there must be a certain level of chemistry and likemindedness. The most common duets speak of love, working that balance together as you would in a relationship. The classics do this well in romantic blending of voices, whereas the modern style is much more diverse clashing two different tones off each other in a very precise way. For me, I really love a piece which has an urban rough edge against a gorgeous melodic side. That perfect mix of attitude and sweetness.

Those who first listen to Nick Brewer ft Bibi Bourelly - Talk To Me may recognize the base track as a sample of the classic ‘Gypsy Woman’ by Crystal Water, they’ve even kept the la da dee la da da! This is a good example of a modern-day relationship with both voices having a little attitude and bouncing off each other well.

There have been quite a few duets out lately.. This one first caught my attention with the catchy lyrics and then boom, that drop, MNEK & Zara Larsson Never Forget You . Okay it’s a little on the EDM hype, but the real thing I love here is the way the vocal speed and range match the track so well, the best way to be described as climbing. And then you have to odd dips and powerful highs as well as a great contrast between the vocals.

Galaxy Duet commercial, yes even the delicious choc brand is in on the duet trend! The track, Bxnjamin & Chanele McGuinness - Moon River. The new bar brings together two flavours in each segment, ‘in perfect harmony’. This new cover of a classic is again bringing a fresh urban style against beautiful soft tones. I’m secretly a gushy romantic and the full version is really lovely along with an amazing guitar accompaniment A few classics.. Next up we have KDA ft Tinie Tempah and Katy B - Turn The Music Louder (Rumble), and I don’t know about you, but EVERYTHING Katy B puts her touch to is just so good! One of my favorites right now, and a perfect example of rough & edgy against sexy & gorgeous, although with the artists’ signature fresh current style.

More romance I’m afraid, but how could I possibly discuss duets without slipping in this classic and utterly soppy duet, Nancy & Frank Sinatra - Somethin' Stupid. A simple lovey-dovey piece with the two singing simultaneously.

R&B. The sweet voice against a rougher tone, then brought together with joint harmony. A few more of J Lo’s include All I Have with LL Cool J, and I'm Real with Ja Rule,

In memory of The Notorious B.I.G., Puff Daddy/Faith Evans/112 - I'll Be Missing You . Simply a beautiful, timeless and heartfelt rap ballad. Hip Hop & R&B really peaked in the early noughties.. Two artists who made a major impact in the R&B world, Usher & Alicia Keys - My Boo. The sexy vibes are certainly turned up to the max in this gorgeous track, it’s hard not to sway along! Both with sweet passionate sounds working well together.

The girl with the booty, she had some great hits with her sexy vibe, Jennifer Lopez ft Fat Joe - Hold you Down. Complete with sparkly notes this is a great example of romantic 18

I love this next one, Fabolous ft Tamia - So Into You , such pretty vocals against a smooth seductive style. Another sweet balance. Another good example from Fabolous features Lil' Mo with ‘Can't Let You Go’.

This track is an all-time favourites with the original white boy rapper who we grew up to love, Eminem & Dido - Stan. The poignant, almost cold atmosphere with a subtle softness is really what gives interest here. Another from Eminem is ‘Love Alright this one’s a little on the The Way You Lie’ ft Rihanna. cheesy side, but I absolutely love Beyonce, and the fact the her and her hubby have a strong music connection is really cool, Jay-Z & Beyonce - Crazy In Love . Bey’s signature feisty sexy attitude with Jay-Z’s urban flow. The two have both had more interesting collaborations including Jay-Z with Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’ and Alicia Keys’ ‘Empire State Of Mind’, and Beyonce with Sean Paul’s ‘Baby Boy’ and Shakira’s ‘Beautiful Liar’. A little diverse.. A sweet sad story between lovers, James Morrison ft Nelly Furtado Broken Strings. I’ve always liked 19

this pairing, the two create such an interesting blend off each other, and the fact that the second voice doesn’t come in until one third of the way in rather than straight away. The husky sounds against a strong feminine sound. Another from Nelly Furtado which has a great contrast is with Timbaland’s ‘Promiscuous’.

• Brandy & Monica - The Boy Is Mine • Blu Cantrell & Sean Paul - Breathe

Article by Ruby.

An edgy core reworking another classic, Professor Green ft Lily Allen - Just Be Good To Green . The super sweet vocals paired with Pro Green’s badboy attitude makes for a fresh versatile take. A few more.. • Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton Islands in the Stream • B.o.B ft Hayley Williams Airplanes • Ciara ft Justin Timberlake - Love Sex Magic • Nelly ft Kelly Rowland - Dilemma • Fat Joe ft Ja Rule & Ashanti What's Love 20

Terracotta Blue – Never Leave Feat. Emily Ehrens First heard on the Lost On Radio podcast, wow. Sensational vocals against strong syncopated beats. The track is a Trap/Baltimore club edit of PKWY's 'Come To Me'. Maryland producer Terracotta Blue is all about Beats, beats, and more beats! He is one half of the PKWY duo. 'come To Me' is a soulful pop track with amazing vibrant flavour when the beat drops, a real celebration of sounds. Compared to the original, 'Never Leave' is more simplistic yet with powerful dynamic versatility. soundcloud.com/pkwymusic 21

GEORGE CLARKE'S AMAZING SPACES

The show not only presents unique spaces, Clarke also challenges himself with innovative builds. Up-cycling is a great way to get creative and is often demonstrated in the designs. The usual way to re-use old or broken bits of music is to make vinyl clocks or inspired items. But would you ever think to work your love of music into a campervan? Well one man has, and this is his creation.

The very first thing you notice is the glimmering CD-cladded front exterior. Walking inside you step onto an unconventional vinyl flooring, stacked in a way which mimicks the classic record stores. Music has even entered the loo with sheet music covering the back wall.

Lift Your Hands Towards The Sun By David Jared Leto is without a doubt one of my biggest inspirations. The 43-year-old front man of Thirty Seconds to Mars never ceases to amaze me — singing commendably while leaping on stage with such agility. But what’s even more bewildering is his ability to create and release powerful emotions within himself and others! Not only has his passionate and captivating performances won over the hearts of The Echelon (the fan base for 30 Seconds to Mars), but his mystical songs interpret such a divine meaning that it transcends our understanding, drawing us in an emotional trance. Of course there are other star qualities of Leto's that we are allured by, such as the fact that he is a freakishly handsome movie star and an occasional model. One thing is for sure, we are undeniably in awe of the marvel that is his ageless face! --At the age of twenty-one, Leto moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting and achieved an early success and worldwide recognition in just a few years later. Leto was twenty-seven years old when he founded 30 Seconds to Mars alongside his older brother Shannon Leto, and signed a contract with Immortal and Virgin. When 30 Seconds to Mars first started, Leto refused to allow his name in the film industry to be used to promote the band. This act of letting their music speak for itself is outright respectable and very much endearing. Leto is truly a musician that aspiring artistes can definitely look up to.

Dreams and Aspirations I myself aspire to be a distinguished artiste like Leto one day. To be bestowed upon the power of being able to inspire others through my passions of music. To be offered the opportunity to encourage life through song would be, without a doubt, amongst the most blessed gifts anyone could ever ask for! 'Talents' I would call them — the innate ability to perform without trying or something that you were inherently born with. Admittedly, I struggle to acquire the skills I need to pull off what I love to do. However, I believe that being made differently is a test in preparation for a much bigger, much higher responsibility. With the maturity to be able to handle a greater responsibility, great powers would also be induced within me. Embrace your talents, whatever it may be, and use it to give back. I feel that I was given the gift of a strong will. The creative tension between my artistic vision and my current reality has always been present in my life. Once I am able to fully strip myself of doubts and fears, I have faith that I can accomplish anything I set my mind and heart to. I represent my generation, the generation of teenagers who seem afraid of dreaming big in fear of being incompetent. And to them I ask, "Why should you fear your journey if you have yet to set forward on its path?" Take heart; Have faith. Be the miracle we needed to see. 27

DISCLAIMER: This piece was written by an American, 20-year-old, Disney-raised girl who was able to pay the most attention to the careers of the artists mentioned in this article. Take a look at the Top Charts of current music. You will see household names like Taylor Swift, Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato who all currently sing Pop hits, some more romantic than the others (Ex.- Swift's ‘Wildest Dreams’ vs. Lovato's ‘Cool For The Summer’). Thinking about it, all of these artists started their careers in a totally different light - Country or Disney. This Sarah's Thoughts serves, or will try to serve, as a breakdown as to how these artists have transformed themselves into the people we see today.

- Taylor Swift With all this 1989 hype, does anyone actually remember Taylor Swift's curly hair/dress style she had going on at the beginning of her career? To me, it seems the farther away from innocence she became, her style choices reflected it. Her hair got straighter and shorter, and her clothes soon became short skirts or shorts. Besides her style, her music has been brilliantly crafted to successfully transition from Country to Pop. 28

www.AudiationMagazine.com

Now, I barely remember how many CMA’s she has under her belt (11 to be clear), as she falls under the category of these next two artists.

- Nick Jonas Nick Jonas, famously launched his career from the band with his brothers called the Jonas Brothers. At the beginning, they were publically the purity ring wearing boys with good morals. Now, he is definitely making sure that ring is buried in the ground, as he sings songs like “Numb” and “Wilderness” that both suggest heavy sexual material. After recently meeting him in Chicago on Sept. 14, I still haven’t been able to connect that the man I saw perform two weeks ago is the same guy that I would watch on Disney over and over again. 29

- Demi lovato Demi Lovato, that girl-next-door Disney persona, best friends with Selena Gomez and the Jonas Brothers, and not afraid to belt her notes. Before her time spent in rehab in 2010, she had most of the world fooled that she did not have anything hidden. When she stepped out of that rehab center, actually about an hour from my house, she came out a completely different and inspirational person. In the years after rehab, her music has been more about her healing process, while she still finds herself. Now, she is letting go of the past and STRUTTING HER STUFF into 2016. After looking back at their careers, it makes me think - have they always been this way the whole time? What was their true initial plan all along with their careers, even when they first got their break? What factors behind the scenes have caused them to make the music they sang, the choices they made and the way they performed in the spotlight? Are these types of transformations planned, or do they just happen? Let us know about other artists you have seen transform in front of your eyes! Tweet at us @AudiationMag. 30

Day One, the beginning of a music journey with Jackie Freaky's debut release on AWJ Recordings. The track embodying the sound of the start of a great music party season. A striking electronic edge plays out the main melody accompanied by a fluctuating beat and summer House tone. 34

My passion for music started at effort to produce event tiniest of an early age. Ever since I could mashups would make the DJ scene hold on to a mic I would spend every single day singing my favourite tunes out loud. As I grew up I let my passion for singing aside and started to fancy the art of djing and mixing sounds at the age of 13 when I got my first PC. I would dream of one day being the one performing my own tunes for a crowd and feel that energy. So here I am ready to learn and give it all to become a good producer and share my passion with the the rest of the world!

and club life a little more attractive and unique each time. Opportunity for all doesnt exist in this country.

Music is to me the source through I get all the energy to accomplish and get past all difficulties of life. It is to me the only drug I would never stop taking as the joy and satisfaction music brings to me is one of the main reasons I wake up in the morning.

Music in Mauritius, mainly the electronic music scene is in expansion and it is impressive to see the variety of genres people like to listen/dance to in some events. We even have some big DJ lineups to come perform in Mauritius such as Darude, Martin Garrix and many more famous artists. If I were to describe Mauritians' taste in music in one word I would simply say "eclectic". Meanwhile the music scene in Mauritius is not as fair as it seems to be, some artists who have had their share of the DJ life are not willing to let go just yet and most of the gigs in Mauriius will feature the same DJ's and music for most of the events - which I believe makes the party's a little bit repetitive. I think making a small

I played around with my DAW till I could get a sound I really liked, and then started building a track over a sound I designed. Listening to many a record from uprising producers helped a lot in the process and this lead to my very own creation. Release date: 10 November 2015 35

Nazca 'Muki' released on Anemone Recordings If you like heavy basslines and banging drums, this one will definitely make you move your feet on the dance floor. The track begins without any delay. A thumping kick drum is coupled with a continuous hi-hat that just demands you to move at least two ligaments of your body. Nazca gradually brings in a stabbing synth phase that is clearly the main focal point of this Techno masterpiece. There is no doubt in my mind that if you are a true fan of Techno music you will definitely love this track.

Hot Since 82 'Damage' released on Truesoul Records Hot Since 82 releases another absolute gem via Truesoul Records this week, I must say this is definitely a track you need in your playlist. I’m sure lovers of Tech-House will treasure this captivating timeless piece put together by the guy that many call a genius. What starts as a calm and almost mundane track, slowly turns into a thumping club banger. As always Hot Since 82 take us on a journey that you will be willing to repeat over and over again if you love deep and dark basslines and speaking synths that bring you into a world of bliss. One thing that is loved about this track is the attention to detail within the mix. This track is created using a hypnotizing selection of sounds, which seem to take you to a place which some would call 'out of this world'. I like to think of this track as a quick trip to a space that many wouldn’t mind calling home. 37

Dabin - Embers feat. Jill Harris (Kai Wachi Remix) First heard on the UKF Podcast #70 with Dabin. The mix starts by dropping his track with Koda titled 'The Take Down' which leads into the 'Embers' edit. The drop is a little too heavy for me, but the edit is well executed and is still my favourite edit of this track. The overal melody, the vocals, the beats just fit perfectly on the lead ups and break. The original has a light summer House tone with a bouncy melody. Although there is a DnB edit by Feint which is nice and light, I invision it a little different. The Kai Wachi vocal lead up kept along with the bass tones progressing with drum loops and an overall edgier sound.

NEW MUSIC Mau - Simple Things Easing in with a chilled tempo and beautiful husky vocals. The beat drops revealing an uplifting atmosphere and sweet lyrics. There is a lovely contrast between the interesting percussion and light piano sounds.

Sally Caitlin - Stuck In Limbo (UKG Mix) With Autumn here the music season is changing from a light summer tone to a more dancey feel. This track blends the seasonal change well with an upbeat rhythm and light playful bumpyness. Sally’s vocals pulls this together with stunning vocals describing emotions of a love that will never die.

Shanay - Time Appropriately starting with a ticking clock, then enters Shanay's incredibly stunning voice. The video a dark midnight blue/purple hue against the body's bronze radiance. Simply a beautiful track, the vocals full of hope and passion, the subtle beat to compliment at varying tempos. 39

HOT 6 with Stefano Lotti If you are accustomed to the world of techno then there is good chance that you’ve found yourself dancing to a Stefano Lotti track or another released on the Equilibrium Lab or Ribbon Recordings imprints. The Italian born label boss is a modest and humble man for a person who can lay claim to having had the likes of Marco Carola, Richie Hawtin, Danny Tenaglia, Joseph Capriati, Nicole Moudaber, Paco Osuna & Stacey Pullen supporting the releases on his labels. No stranger to the technical side of the game, the DJ, producer & audio engineer first released his first few tracks back in 2002 and has since then himself collaborated with a number of international acts including Ilario Alicante & Mihalis Safras releasing on labels such as Suara and Sleaze Recordings. For this months take on the Audiation Hot 6 we decided to catch up with the Japan residing techno maestro. F.R.E.D.Y. "Trekantsdrama" E.P. on Equilbrium Lab is OUT NOW on Beatport.

1st record you ever bought? Well… Actually I don’t remember really well but I’m sure one of the first (if it not the first) records I bought was “TRIBE 'N' TRANCE”, produced by Francesco Farfa and published on Plastic Fantastic. Favourite track you have made? This is a really difficult question. I’ve produced different kinds of tracks so it depends on the mood and on what I'm experiencing in that moment. I’ll give you just two titles of tracks: World Connection (Original mix) & Irrational (Original Mix) Favourite kit for making music? I like to use analog machines but also VST. I’m not a purist so sometimes I use both to produce a track. Sometimes I produce a track without analog synths or drum machines, like otherwise sometimes I produce tracks without VST. Recently I’m using more instruments from Roland, Moog, Electron and Korg. I love the "live" and sometimes random touch they can add to a track. Your Dream Line up (self included) There are too many artists I’d love to play with for the first time, also lots of artists I’d love to play with again. My dream lineup is: Jeff Mills, Richie Hawtin, Joseph Capriati, Chris Liebing, Function, Dubfire, Danny Tenaglia, Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann, Adam Beyer, Cari Lekebusch, Alexi Delano, Len Faki, Joel Mull, Donato Dozzy, Scuba, Speedy J, Tom Hades, Jonas Kopp, Ralf, Dustin Zahn Note: this is for my dream event I would love to see here in Japan on the peak of Fuji Mountain. Each DJ would play one track in a continuous B2B from dusk till the morning sunrise (if you can dream, why don't dream BIG?). If you had to DJ a 3hr set of a different Genre what would it be? I would like to explore the boundaries of Ambient music. One sentence that defines house and techno music? It's tough to describe such important kind of music genre (s) with only one sentence. For me Techno is a lifestyle and it goes beyond the dance floor. With House & Techno music DJs, musicians and clubbers are all on the same level: we are all in front of the speakers creating our reality.
