music, but it is honestly hard to tell who will stick around for the many years to come. With the countless demographics of people throughout the world, how can we find an artist that can create a lasting impression like Prince, David Bowie, Whitney Houston, and Glenn Frey made? (And yes, I know Whitney did not pass this year, but she should be included in that list).

This month, I wanted to turn this page into a memorial for our fallen musical artists this year. There have been much too many within only four months, but it sparked messages of universal loss, love and belonging If you have any ideas, any true and from people all around the world on real ideas, let us know! I’m stumped. social media and in performances as tributes. I’ve seen brands, celebrities, friends, family members, etc., share pictures, quotes, stories, videos, graphic designs and more in print and online in memory of people that once had us dancing, laughing and singing. It is funny how life works, one day we are watching Prince Photo Credit: Chevrolet, twitter.com/ performing at the 2007 Superbowl XLI chevrolet in the pouring rain, and watching the entire stadium singing along to “Purple Rain.” Another day, Chevrolet is sharing an ad in tribute to Prince’s life, with the words “Baby, that was much too fast.” This makes me think, who is it in our generation that will be the legends that people across the world remember and pay tribute to? Who is innovating music, daring to be different, weaving in themes and making parties? This, I have yet to find a distinct answer. I can think of 12

We work, work, work in hope that we would one day be presented with an opportunity to finally live the life we have always imagined. We exhaust ourselves, we run on energy drinks, we have sleepless nights... We break down, burn out and fall into depression. What about self care? How about balancing our commitments and maintaining a healthy body, mind and spirit? It's no wonder why our efforts are never good enough no matter how hard we try. We had just overlooked the skill of happiness. When we love and take care of ourselves, we would be able to find success. It is WITHIN us. Being healthy influences positive experiences in other areas of our lives. Law of attraction. Simple as that. Remember to feed your body, mind and spirit with the food it needs and you WILL grow in happiness. Start with YOU. -- David

Thursday 19th May, The Love Inn will play host to Slime Recordings for their 6th birthday celebrations. Bristol, being the heart of the company and described as "it's spiritual home". The line up does not reveal much, there will a secret headliner as well as residents: Celladore, Flux & Stavros.

How to describe Slime Recordings' style is rather a difficult task. A beautifully crafted blend of garage, bass and ambient sounds.

Happy 6th birthday to one of the most unique record labels I've ever come across. Slime Recordings, and may we also dedicate this to the very modest owner Andy as well as all the incredible artists.

Slime Recordings is a digital record label based in the UK. It aims to challenge and innovate the normal consensus of the music industry. It has been a pleasure to witness their growth, and recently they also introduced a gritty, bassy sister label Boss Mode - A little label for loud music.

There is such imagination and attention to detail in every aspect of the label. The artwork, created by Andy under Precursor Design, really are amazing pieces of art. The release descriptions outline the projects with great expression. Every aspect is most certainly made with love. www.AudiationMagazine.com

Well, having listened to music pretty much all my life, I've always been interested in getting into the industry & DJing certainly seems to be the right path for me to take to go as far as I can. The thing that really got me into DJing though was IBIZA! Congratulations on coming 2nd in the 'Here To Be Heard' competition, what did you gain from this experience?

Introducing: Ben Hinchcliffe The Tech-House DJ based in Leeds is one to watch, at the age of 18 he has already played at iconic venues including The Attic in Wigan. The rising DJ also runs the Get Together night in Leeds and it is run in Sydney.

The Here To Be Heard competition by Relentless was an insane experience. I had literally been DJing like 7 months when I stumbled across this competition, so I just threw caution to the wind & entered it. When I got the call to say I'd got into the final it was mad, I was buzzing. To get to the final of one of the biggest competitions out there at 17 years was a good achievement for me (it was also the first competition I ever entered). The competition spec for entry was a 10 minute mix which was unfamiliar territory for me, I had never done a mix of that length before so you really do have to be creative to get all the content in you want to give a good representation to your sound.

In 2015 Ben entered the 'Here To Be Heard' DJ competition presented by Relentless energy drinks. He proudly came second having competed against many more passionate UK DJs. "My aim is to ignite the Leeds Festival crowd with my own sound in a way which will have a lasting effect on them which they can take away long after my set." You've been DJing for almost two years, what would you say is the most Hey Ben, thanks for taking the time challenging aspect about the to speak with us. We'd love to know industry for a newcomer? a little about your background and why you got into DJing.

21

Getting exposure, for sure! You can end up spending hours collecting music for a mix & only get a hundred listens. Although it's challenging, it's rewarding, in this industry you need to give as much time to others as you do yourself; networking & building relationships with others around you is the key for exposure. Appreciating their work rather than seeing it as a threat is so important. What does music mean to you? A hell of a lot.. HA!

aspirations? Continuing to work hard & push to get as big as I can, both with my DJIng & my night I run - Get Together. ________________________________

NEW MUSIC Alex Kunnari & Tiff Lacey - In The Deep The summer party season is looming, this is a great energetic trancer to play out. Out now on Magik Muzik. With In The Deep Alex Kunnari and Tiff Lacey bring you big beats and hypnotizing vocals in one. This is energizing trance at its best with a chilling break in which Tiff’s vocals truly get a chance to shine before all hell breaks loose in the pumping ending. GREAT!

Forerunners - Lifecycle (Foundation Rework) Subtle curiousity courses through this track with atmospheric waves of sound and a light melody. To be released on Pure Trance Progressive. Forerunners ‘Lifecycle’ was originally released on Deep Blue Records way back in 2007. Label boss Solarstone pronounced it as his ‘favourite ever signing’. Fast forward 9 years and Solarstone has commisioned a selection of new mixes of this gem, one of which finds it’s way onto PTP as our 6th release. All the beautiful, subtle melodies

are in place, but are embraced by a deep, flowing progressive production with sparse instrumentation & spacious construction. Late night listening for the discerning ear. 23

Blair Dunlop - Gilded The artwork: A simple statement design with the artist as main focus staring forward just off-centre. His hair and clothing dissapear into the black background. Scattered pale peachy yellow dust surrounds his figure and next to his neck is the artist word logo in a matching pale peachy yellow. What could this visual conjure up in terms of sound? Possibly the style of something to the same effect, a little modest, unusual yet make a statement. Press play to find nice acoustic guitar riffs giving the limelight to great downto-earth vocals. The percussion steps in a lifts the mood. "She Won't Cry For Me" and "Temper Your Smiling" are a few highlights which show off the ranges well. 'Gilded' is the third studio album from the British musician & actor. It is described that Blair is a "story-teller, known for his cerebral life affirming lyrics." This is shown throughout this album, 'Castello' is inspired by a woman's story whom he met whilst touring in Europe. 'Eternal Optimist' and 'First World Problem' are based on the modern society and every-growing digital aspects. Some tracks are more personal revolving around relationships also having co-writers on the album including Dave Burn and Gita Harcourt-Smith. To be released 6th May on Blair's own label, Gilded Wings Records. blairdunlop.com 24

Prince Rapid - Whats Good A tough attitude and no-nonsence lyrical flows to match. “People recognise my works over the years as a producer but many do not even realise the I am actually a "stage show don" at the same time. I believe its the right time to show grime lovers my ability from both spectrums, Mc and Producer.” Prince Rapid Having been largely responsible for the tsunami of a grime wave that we see before us, Prince Rapid takes back the mic and reminds us that once again, he’s the mic controller. Releasing ‘What’s Good’ as the introduction to his forthcoming 7-track E.P ‘Immortal’, Prince Rapid comes in on a no-messing, no-nonsense tip. The track commands authority and has a hard-edged, yet bubbling vibe. JUMP INTO BED WITH TOUGH LOVE & ARLISSA! The new music video for their single 'Touch' sees a bird's-eye view of people in bed. Then switching to a clever little trick shots of people squashed up against glass panels being the underneath of the bed. It gives an interesting light to the track, 'I just want your touch', with people trying to connect with eachother, although we may be reading too deeply into it! The track is a fun and catchy Pop/House number to get singing and dancing to. "The love of our bed is something that connects us all and we all long to feel the touch of it on our face at night. So without being aware of it we must all look pretty weird in our sleep when we're snuggled down for the night." Simon Willows, Director. 31

Catchy, fresh n fun UKG. Could this be the track that sums up the underground rave scene right now? Reminiscent of the duo's Luck & Neat, and Sparks & Kie, these up n coming lads have a like-minded drive to energise the UK Garage industry. “It’s called Splendid, and it’s just that, wherever you are this summer I expect you to be hearing that track …. It’s so catchy Big BIG Tune!!” DJ Spoony (Dreem Team) An exciting new rhyming duo has emerged from a regular club event in East London/Essex called "SPLENDID". Darks & Dirtz are a 2 piece MC partnership made up of MC Darky and MC Dirty James (aka Ebony J). The two have been good friends for many years dating back to their mid-teens. They regularly perform at the weekly event in Gants Hill and have become popular with the clubbers due to the energy and fun they bring when they perform together. 32

Their most recent BIG performances were at the SPLENDID 1st Birthday Bash at Talk nightclub, Southend and UK Garage Fest 2016 held at the O2 London. As fan favourites from "Splendid”, they are now the stars of a new UK Garage dance track which gained huge popularity through it’s recent video release on Facebook … The VERY CATCHY, slightly cheesy but beautifully executed MONSTER of a UKG (Garage) Summer track? We are blessed to have this life as anytime there’s a breach in this harmony, the whole structure crumbles down” ZanZak was known by the song Absans Feeling (Lack of feeling) from the album Joker. It was launched some 15 years ago but its content is still valid. “I don’t make Hits Of Summer, but rather a Hit Forever, as my inspiration is based on the social science and theories which do not change over time. That is why the songs of the album Joker stand till now. I had a deep thought before finalising the album. Each song has been analysed in a way to bring the theories in a poetic way, understood by all. The 36

“I am working with a great team of musicians and our experience during the festivals has galvanised our live performance. Artists need to perform their creations meaning that they have to expose them to public, express the meaning of each song, they must voice out from deep within. One not expressing his creations is living a sort of artistic drought. The live performances have widened my views and set a new objective. Being in contact with the organisers and other artists, I have been praised for the quality of creations and requested to seek opportunities for foreign stages. We are busy building our project for international exposure, as per the festival goers, my music is ready to be delivered on such stages.” All creations that bloomed from his inspirations for the album Joker were quite avant-garde bringing a style that can be defined as sega jazz.

Unfortunately, the album was not fully exposed to public or we can say that the public were not ready for this kind of musical exposure. “People who have listened to the album when it was launched came up with a rediscovery some years after. I gave it an after thought that we might have been ahead of our time. However, I’m happy with it and thank all collaborators on that album. It is very difficult for artists to live from their creations but that must not stall our creative mind. I am involved in the thinking of providing a structure which will provide support for artists, improving the broadcast quotas of Mauritian artists versus international ones. In addition, we are aiming at having an equal number of representatives from the government and artists. We are expecting that artists are involved in the decision-taking, mainly on issues they are facing. Our main aim is that artists can live from their creations.

I heartily thank ZanZak for the opportunity to discuss his music and views about the industry. Most interesting part of the encounter is the human contact and true sharing. I wish all the best to him for his musical endeavours. One song from the album is Profet where he questioned the system which muffles the ones speaking and living the truth through an event that caused an outrage in February 1999.

Alchemia - Tokyo Haze An extraordinary fusion of sounds forming an intricate and distinct piece. The delicate vocals are captivating against the deep dark atmosphere. www.band-alchemia.com

The Mauritian band have just revealed their new single and we got the chance to have a little chat with one half of Alchemia.. Summer talks about not staying to her roots and just being happy and sharing that joy. The sibling duo are very humble and do not wish to become rich and famous, they are simply content with the life's little delights. "It means so much when we connect with people who listen because I think it's the best reward when you're able to pass on the feeling that you have." Summer explains the ideas and inspiration for the track.. "We live in a world where people are just running all the time. We have a routine where we work and get home and go into another routine, you don't have time to disconnect - to take a step back and observe life and to appreciate every little thing. Having the time to appreciate your coffee or looking outside, being connected with yourself and everything around you. The main inspiration was that everything is so fast and we're all trapped in this illusion - money, fame, power - all these things that are not supposed to be what drives you. That's what's driving us nowadays. We have a lot of listeners in Tokyo and I really want to go there one day! Tokyo is also one of those big cities where people are always on the run. It was to honor our listeners there by giving the name, but also, it represents all the big cities in the world where we live in this

material life where nothing else matters. Just running all the time, sometimes losing the main goal of why you're running." All forms of art help us to engage in developing ourselves and sharing passions in a positive way. "When we do music, we need to touch people and try to get out of the system where we forget about the essence of life. We need to be able to bring some change. There was a time when you had people like Gandhi that would change the world. Maybe if each and everyone tried to bring some good energy, just put our soul and heart into it, it could be slightly different." We also got the scoop that Alchemia will have a few intimate live gigs coming up in the next few months! "We really hope that people will connect with the music. We're not performers, we're artists. They're doing the journey with us, we're here to share what we have inside of us. That's a difficult thing, we're changing the way things are done here. The duo radiate such optimism and truly open their hearts to what life has to offer. "We're blessed to be able to get our music thoughts out there. Life throws you obstacles, but if you take the time to look out for the miracles, you'll see them."

Mothers Day Bonn Fet Mama May is here! One celebration in our Mauritian folklore is the Mothers Day happening on the last Sunday of the month, this year on the 29th. Besides having given me the most wonderful gift, that is life, my mother passed on her love for music. I would like to express my love for her and thank her by sharing the different mother’s songs I personally love and think can help in celebrating this day. My memories bring back the mixed tapes, the albums of artists mainly frenchies and all sort of goodies that I have secretly listened too when I had my walkman. Now I understand my love for music, especially different styles. One song I have discovered from her and being from one of her fav’ artist is 'La Fille Aux Yeux Clairs' from Michel Sardou in which the latter compares his aging mother to what she was in her twenties, what she has been through before giving birth and how pretty she was.

embrace of rock music. Even in this style, that she described as dark and not proper for my listening, there is a song for the motherly love. Despite wanting our independence, leaving the parents home, being free of her protective wings, at some point in time we still need her loving embrace which at times is too late. I have came across this song as a single sold along with a rock magazine 'Mama Said' from Metallica. Continuing my musical journey, I have joined the conservatory with classical singing. At the same time a quartet was booming, Il Divo. The song was a request from friends each year we celebrated Mothers Day. I proudly sang 'Mama' from Il Divo. This song means a lot to me as it help me celebrate my love for my mum in a very special way and voice it from deep inside. Hope this musical sharing helps you in celebratating the Mothers Day. Else, we always find a way to catch our mother’s heart, by our very presence. One priceless gift, and she says it with her eyes, is to be happy in life. Bonn fet mama!

Back in the mid 90’s she always bought the music she loved and was trending at that time. I have discovered slows and pop music. The two songs that perfectly suit the event are Boys to Men - 'A Song For Mama' and Spice Girls - 'Mama'. -- Steve Then came my rebel period with the

AWJ Recordings presents a new release from Mauritian artist DJ Wad. The title track 'ORB' is smooth with deep atmospheric tones, it conjures up visions of the island's naturally beautiful landscapes. The second track 'Victoria' has sweetness and pretty elements with an enlightening feel, it is a fusion of the beauty with a hint of culture. DJ Wad explains that the EP is an expression of his journey in life and the changing events. 'The track ORB mainly of cinematic and dramatic sounds, whilst Victoria is simply melodic and pure easy listening. The inspiration for Victoria came from the beautiful scenery of Mauritius island with all the exotic mountains and beaches which are breath taking.' To be released 6th June awjrecordings.com 42
