Editor's note Hello, Bonjour, Ola, Ciao! I hope you're well wherever you are, welcome to our crazy creative world. July 2016, KISSTORY is my current soundtrack. There's certainly been a fair amount of goings on in the world. We got Belgium in the Euro 2016 football sweepstakes on twitter by @cakeclubhour, and are doing pretty well! Over on our blog, we have a selection of alternative festivals to Glasto as well as news on the Brooklyn Brewery UK record label. We would like to introduce and thank Cover The Earth electronic music label and 7 Virtual Jazz Club for sponsoring us this month. Inside AM027: Steve discusses his fondness for animations and the music used in them. Sarah attended the 3-day Lake Shake festival and reports back with her thoughts on the experience and Country music artists who performed. We share with you the aims of Vinyl For A Cause's funding campaign to further assist musicians and give back to charity. Also sharing, Mauritian teens express their opinions for music day saying that without music we'd have "pou enn mond san kouler" / "a world without colours". Settle down to a dinner at sunset with David, being inspired by an India Arie song, he turns this into a poetic story of a beautiful moment. Mary and Tamara were lucky to grab front row seats at the Zakk Wylde concert in Zurich, read the review and take a look at the gig in photos. We've also got your festival guide, radio listings and new music from Box Bottom, Kurvature Music, Elchinsoul and Liyv. Ruby x Connect with us: Facebook /AudiationMagazine Twitter @AudiationMag 6

Ti Komik Cartoons One of the joys of fatherhood is to share with my lil girl the love for animation movies. I rediscovered my love for tikomiks. I generally would start the movie for her but finally get caught up and end up watching it full. What I like most about mangas, toons and animation movies is the soundtrack, especially the opening theme. Here are some of my favs. My farthest memory in my early years is with Lucky Luke ending theme “Lonesome Cowboy” with that country accent and the back vocals especially the bass voice lines. Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn openings are also fresh in my mind. The Moomins was the opportunity to learn my first guitar chords and strumming, I still remember at one Brotherhood Concert at St Esprit College being next to the stage with some friends playing that song while everyone was gazing at us, I thought that their expression would have been “Hey... WTF”. I know The Cure with Boys Don’t Cry but rediscovered them on a catchy song with a

guitar intro in the “The Cure Style” on Dragon Hunter Song of Dragon Hunters cartoon. I would never miss any episode of Space Goofs and most of all the voice of Iggy Pop on Monster Men which I was trying to reproduce where he goes in low notes finishing on those 'lalala lala lala la…' In my early 20’s I came across two mangas which I would never forget, Naruto (Shippuden) and Full Metal Alchemist. What I love about the two stories is the will to reach one’s goal to fight, bleed and even die for it. There are openings that just boost that fighting spirit in me, namely Rewrite Haruka Kanata from Asian Kung Fu Generation and Tōmei datta Sekai by Motohiro Hata. These songs made me discover the Asian rock which is full of musical shades. There’s a sort of freshness in their creations, being at times very clinical. For the time being, I am being overdosed with the animation movies. I can say that I nearly know every part of Frozen for the number of times it has been played ... well I have stopped the count! The song I prefer from that movie is from Olaf the Snowman

11

The Summer Song. Planes has a nice OST with the sneak peek scene song. The second movie Plane 2 is introduced with a nice and soft trumpet intro. ACDC is on that soundtrack too bringing a boost to the fire fighting scene with Thunder Struck. The ending theme of Monster Academy with nice brass sections solos and sounding jazzy is also appreciable. I have been several times through the movie Rapunzel and was delighted with the vilains songs “I’ve got a dream”. One best ROFL I’ve got is with Shaun The Sheep when the sheep started singing and playing to make a lil one sleep. One of the sheep got a lyrical part turning to a soprano; my daugher turned to me and laughed out load saying: “Haha she sings just like you”. Here are the my favs. I am enjoying each day of it as I know these moments are experienced once and they are one of a kind. One thing for sure I know is even being a dad and being in my thirties; I still crave for ti-komiks.

Sarah takes on the Windy games to play, (and for those that aren’t familiar, bags is a game with City Lake Shake Festival! Howdy! Over the weekend of June 17-19, 2016, Chicago hosted its second Lake Shake festival, which is a three-day country concert! I went with girls from B96, and I am bringing the recap of the festival right here to Sarah’s Thoughts. This was my first time at a music festival in general where I went all three days, so the entire experience was brand new. Overall, this entire weekend showed me how much rock and some pop is incorporated in today’s country music.

two boards with a hole people try to toss bean bags into. Other people call it baggo and cornhole). There were food trucks, another coming stage for up-anda stage country artists from called Next from Nashville, and a swing ride. B96’s sister station called US99.5 was a sponsor of the entire festival, so I was running into people from my work left and right. It was one big summer party!

Want to shout out to Dee Jay Silver who played in between each act all three days. He kept the party going and played all the classic hits in all genres, so it kept the energy up. He was amazing. FRIDAY NIGHT - June 17, 2016 We got there during the first actJana Kramer. She has a hit country song called “I Got the Boy,” which is about watching someone you dated when you were young grow up into a man and fall in love with Following Kramer, Granger Smith someone else. came on, and he was one rocker! After Kramer, we walked around He sang a song that has been stuck the festival. It had plenty of bags in my head since called “Country 14

rock and a little bit of rap, so it’s very a modern style of country. He was wearing a SnapBack, long white t-shirt and ripped jean shorts. Definitely not that country. Since he has so many singles, here is a song that isn’t one that’s perfect for the summer called “Single for the Summer.” He covered “Marvin’s Room” by Drake, along with other of his favorite songs on country radio. One interesting fact was he and Old Dominion help write each other’s songs, so he covered their song “SnapBack.”

Kacey Musgraves was after Smith, and the best way to describe her ambiance is peaceful. Her music was all about minding your own business, living your life how you want, and being happy. It was very calming, and kind of hilarious that she made her band wear matching outfits consisting of bolos and suits. She said it best “Mind your own biscuits, and life will be gravy.” Lady Antebellum followed Hunt, and while they played all their hits, I was blown away by their covers of “Can’t Stop the Feeling” by Justin Timberlake and “Take it Easy” by The Eagles. I wonder if it is different for them touring together after Charles Kelley tried starting a solo career.

SATURDAY NIGHT - June 18, 2016 This night started with a very hungry squirrel eating some popcorn we brought with, so we almost walked away with a pet, other than the experience of a concert.

Everyone (mainly girls, but some boys too) were there that night for a man by the name of Sam Hunt. He is the definition of an American overnight sensation, where almost all the songs off his debut album Montevallo have become singles, or well-known. Hunt was supposed We showed up just in time for Jon to play professional American Pardi to sing his hit song “Head football, but followed his passion for singing for the past couple of years. SUNDAY NIGHT - June 19, 2016 While walking into the festival, we saw a man walking an iguana on a leash, so that was the start to the We stayed more in the Next from night. Nashville tent today to hear upand-comers like Brett Young and First, it felt like it was a million Clare Dunn. We rode the rides, we degrees outside, so being in a felt more at home this day. crowd was the last thing we wanted to do. But, we showed up during Chris Janson’s set and he was probably the biggest ball of energy with the most beautiful blue eyes. It made us forget about the heat! He has a song called “Buy Me a Boat,” which I really don’t know the meaning of, but it is a total summer song.

Martina McBride, Brooks & Dunn and Tim McGraw were headliners this night, and to be honest, I barely knew any of their songs. But to be in the crowd with everyone else singing along made it worth it. Just learned my lesson to do my homework and learn at least a few songs before I see an artist live. Or else you will stand there bopping your head not knowing what beat is coming next.

Much like Friday night, most girls were here this night for another man by the name of Thomas Rhett. Everything about him is perfect, from the love he has for his wife, to his style, to his music, to his cover of “Cake By the Ocean” by DNCE. It was incredible. My actual favorite song at the moment is “Die a Happy Man,” which is probably the sweetest song I have ever heard in a long time, so there might have been a tear or two that shed during that song live.

The one song that got everyone pumped up was McGraw’s “I like It, Brooks & Dunn played again, while I Love It,” which is a song about liking crushing on a girl, and not 18

they were onstage we ate loaded tater tots, best choice. Jason Aldean closed out the night, and he just reminds me of a grizzly bear. He captured the stage in a way where I felt a bit intimidated, but that means he had extremely strong stage presence. I am amazed by how much synth, guitar solos and heavy bass is used in live country music. I know plenty of people that make fun of the genre for being all banjos, but I really felt like it was more than just country, but like a rock and pop crossover. The artists were fun, good-looking (I mean, come on), and everyone in the crowd was having a blast. Already looking forward to going back next year! THANK YOU LAKE SHAKE!

Dinner at Sunset Rays of lights protruded the clouds and hit the ocean causing the waves to shimmer gold. We were sitting by the coast, on a wooden patio of a cafe, having the most amazing pasta. The sunlight hit your face emitting a beauty that was like no other. The evening was absolutely perfect. You were absolutely perfect. The sea breeze blows gently against our faces. I could almost taste the salt in the air as I took a bite of my piping hot pasta, it brought out hidden flavours in the dish that made the whole experience an absolutely magical one. It was starting to drizzle under the sun, but it did not matter to us. We took the moment as a blessing, and every breath like it was our last. It almost seemed like a dream. The perfect place, at the perfect time, but most importantly I was with the perfect company. Nothing else mattered. We looked at each other and giggled at the awkward silence. I guess I was at a loss for words from how angelic you looked. An angel that God sent to bless the universe. He gave a laughter to you that was so joyous, no one would ever feel sadness again. He placed a perfect smile on your face that melts the hearts of humans, and inspires them to smile the same. What baffles me was that, well... He gave me you. On my own I’m only half of what I should be. But with you by my side, everyday seemed like a dinner at sunset. I drew my eyelids close and luxuriated in the magnitude of serenity. You got me on a natural high... -- David 25

29th May 2016 in Zurich, legendary Rock God Zakk Wylde graced the stage with a thrilling performance. Jared James Nichols also joined him as a supporting act on the European tour. Mary & Tamara had the pleasure of being in the front row for this incredible live concert show.. “It feels like I have been invited to a private music party hosted by Zakk Wylde. The atmosphere of the event was very welcoming, friendly and highly professional. It shall be noticed that doors of the venue ‘Dynamo’ were opened without delays that surprised fans as it started to rain. The venue is very comfortable, providing great sound and atmosphere of being involved. As a true fan of Zakk Wylde, I came e a r l y a n d g o t a p l a c e i n t h e fi r s t r o w . N e e d l e s s t o mention how virtuously Zakk can make powerful sounds that are beyond any possibility to try practicing by yourself. And in the middle of the gig, I thought, I would rather be standing at the rear as Zakk came inside the crowd playing a long solo part. Honestly saying, I have never seen such close artist experience! It was awesomely lucky for those standing by the guitar legend as if it was their friend. So, if you love guitar and music as much as I do, I absolutely recommend you to catch Zakk Wylde’s gig in your city. It is worth experiencing!”

NEW MUSIC Gorje Hewek & Izhevski - After Rest Love this light and feelgood tone from the Russian artists. It most certainly evokes a summer attitude and is reminiscent of some of the iconic Ibiza lounge style tracks - most noticably X-Press 2 ft David Byrne's 'Lazy'. As played on The Chillout Lounge Mix - Es Vive by Tim Angrave. 'After Rest' was released on the Ladies And Gentlemen label in 2012 as part of the 'Time For House 2' compilation.

Box Bottom ft. Dubble A Star & Nat Jay Do You Really Wanna Do This A fun and fast-paced tempo and urban style accompanied by fresh bubbly lyrics. 'Killing Me' by Hectic featuring Camille has been twisted in new directions in this remix package. Monkixx's version is seductive and moody with a funky beat. Bigseuf turns down the levels into something dark and gritty. Ending this trio of edits, Samantha Togni also plays with the texture and creates a syncopated rhythm. Cover The Earth is proud to present 'Killing Me: The Remixes' by Hectic and Camille. Following on from their successful collaboration, 'Golden', three very different artists were recruited to reimagine the second track from the EP, 'Killing Me'. Kicking things off is UK based producer, Monkixx (Route One Audio, Hoxton FM), who delivers a stripped back, bass heavy garage banger. Next is French artist Bigseuf (Route One Audio, Le French Work) who serves up a frantic four minutes of his signature footwork while London based DJ/ producer/ radio presenter Samantha Togni (Dirty Diana, Church of Dreams, Reel Rebels Radio) rounds things off with a deep, dark and brooding head nodder. Altogether, this is a hard hitting remix EP from an amazing collective of diverse and talented artists. To be released on Cover The Earth, 22nd July 2016 www.soundcloud.com/cover-the-earth-label 33

“The video tells us a story about a simple guy, who dreams about being a drummer in a cool band, instead of being a dishwasher in a café. On turning on the music while riding a bicycle on his way to work early in the morning, he tries to make it in time and still continues dreaming on the road. His trip becomes an interesting adventure in which, at least in his mind, his dreams come true. No matter what your day job, leave some place for what your heart tells you, and as this story tells – music. Never stop dreaming big!” 34 28

MaHA Rocks - In Mind Beginning with the strumming edgy guitar riff, visually reflected by matching movements to the beat. I love the motion effects playing with the pace. There is also a hint of a comical nature, the male character clearly startled by setting his eyes upon the singer. The vocals kick in. We cut away to the performance of MaHA Rocks and her band. In a twist that the man is the drummer.. The rhythm is addictive. The raw nature, the deep roots and intoxicatingly tone. The 'Bigo EP' by Elchinsoul is comprised of 4 tracks in a minimal Tech House style. The dark tones drive deeper into the unknown. These are great to dip into and carry through the club vibe with a light touch. Elchinsoul explains that he had the ideas for the release and worked on production since a year ago. The EP is aimed to be a set of "strong tracks for the main period of the party." After the sensation caused by his last release, Elchinsoul comes back strong with another battle cry into the darkness on Cellaa Music. In his usual nonchalant style, you can expect deep driving arrangements. Through the precisely applied sub-basses and the unobtrusive synth pads, a first class soundperformance is guaranteed. Made to fill dark basements, clubs and also festivals with sound. The EP contains 4 tracks and includes a masterpiece of a remix by Sven Jaeger, and a special vinyl only track, which will not be availeable digitally. If you have listened to the full EP, there only will be 4 words to describe it: this is dope... ! To be released on Cellaa Music, 4th July 2016. www.cellaamusic.com 38

A breathtakingly powerful classical voice bursts through, you are simply astounded & mesmerised by Jonathan. The 'Believe' album by Jonathan Antoine is already gaining great support with fans in favour of his newly developed optimistic nature. Described as the ‘Teenage Pavarotti’ as he rose to stardom through Britain’s Got Talent, Jonathan Antoine has not rested on his laurels after his first solo album Tenore went straight to No. 1 in the Classical charts and stayed there for 3 weeks as well as being John Suchet’s Classic FM album of the week. After a string of live performances around the UK, Jonathan Antoine announces his second solo album Believe, coproduced by Chris Broom and Clarissa Farran and recorded at ‘British Grove Studio’ and “Air-Edel Studios” in London. Believe, a hashtag Jonathan and his fan base (aptly named The ‘Fantoines’) began using in August 2015 has great significance to Jonathan. After battling with depression when he was younger, Believe signifies Jonathan’s change in mind state and shows how much he has developed, not only as a Tenor but also a person.
