Creativity Kreativite I am experiencing an outburst of creativity during these recent weeks, a thing I can’t explain. One friend was telling me about the positive outcomes and energy flow after the solar and lunar eclipse; maybe it is due to that. Anyway, I am grateful for this period. Melodies, lyrics, solutions and perceptions are gushing out of my mind. This positive rampage must be channeled, when not, I feel frustrated and unproductive. The only way of controlling the unpredictable rushes, is to record it instantly. For this, I have three tools, namely my notebook plus the pen, my portable recorder and eventually, the mix of both, my phone. Naturally, I am more on my phone to jot down ideas on Docs or have a quick recording through the voice recorder app. But, getting back to the basics is a pretty good experience, writing down the lyrics, erase parts or strike through some words - ease the mind freeing process. The recorder is more for a clean recording of the instrumental part which I can keep on looping in order to get the lyrics on. During creative processes, I usually get inspiration from books, artists and situations. One great moment last month was a short unexpected 10

meeting with Christophe Rey. He shared some thoughts and given news about his current projects which I am waiting for eagerly. This encounter has sparked lots of positive thoughts. Creation never stops. It just goes round and round. It takes its time to fully mature and come out, or, it runs down like a huge snowball catching everything on its way. I often try to overdo it and then I face the reality by going back to the basics. Stuff that works for me are listening to the same old tune or even rediscovering an artist I use to listen to some times back. I know it might sound awkward what will follow but it is just the music style I am on the look for actually and that accompany my drives around the island.

My projects are shaping up and once things are settled I will be very much pleased to share, by now I am getting the most out of my influences. One discovery which incites me to drive the current change is Evy and the Gaffer. The group propose a soul/hip hop style which is powered by a very great lead voice and some amazing backing vocals. The pieces are nicely wrapped and presented with the picture of dog miniatures. The two striking tracks are 'Butterfly' and 'Upside Down' which is my favourite with the lead singing in a soft pp then allowing the full voice with natural vibratos and colours. Here is my actual state of mind, and I hope to get the most of it. Until our next issue, keep well folks! Creatively yours.

11 DAYS WITH

With the summer party season coming to a close, we spend 11 days touring across Europe with the EDM Producer & DJ. Born into the music scene in Holland, Daniel Wanrooy has releases on Spinnin' Records, Black Hole Recordings, In Trance We Trust, Armada, EMI and more. 13

1 September Woke up this morning in a good mood, it is time for adventure again! I start the day as normal with a fresh smoothie, checking my mail and social media. Got some good news in the inbox as I signed my new vocal track. Time for a morning run, the weather is amazing in Holland lately, let's enjoy this while it lasts. Just after the run, I go to the studio since I want to finish this new track so it is ready to play at this weekend's gigs. After a couple of hours in the studio I am satisfied with it, I check out the latest promos in the mailbox and releases on Beatport to get nice tunes to play. I am taking the train to Schiphol Airport where I fly at 9:35pm to Oslo. I need to spend the night in a hotel there since my connection flight to Kirkenes, all the way up north, is tomorrow morning at 9:00am.

14

www.AudiationMagazine.com

2 September Got up way too early today to get to the airport. The wake up call did hurt a bit, but I could relax in the plane. And, Norwegian Airlines has wifi on board, so that will make the trip a lot more interesting. After a smooth flight it was time to hook up with my friends. There was a bus waiting for all the artists - obviously a lot were in the same flight. The weather is surprisingly good, sunny and warm, the opposite of what the forecast told me. Here I was with a winter jacket and no shades! Arrived in the hotel, I took some hours to relax and work a bit. At night I went with a group of friends to the festival, the stage looked amazing, and so did the backstage, and the drinks.

15

3 September The day of the gig today. Woke up at 11:00pm, just too late for breakfast so I decided to go for a walk and grab some food somewhere. I come to Kirkenes a few times a year and it never disappoints. Love these walks in Norway, amazing sceneries and the weather was great. In the afternoon, friends called me to ask if I wanted to join a German beer fest in the Norwegian style... Sure! We stayed there for a few hours then I had to go back to the hotel to shower and get ready. Around 11pm I went to the club where Julie Bergan started the night. She is huge at the moment in Norway and she did a great performance with her band. After her show it was my turn. The place was packed! I was happy they all stayed till the end of my set. Everything went really smooth and it was such an awesome day, cool thing is that my friend Orjan Nilsen stopped by for a drink. Clubs close around 2:00am in Norway, so I was back at the hotel around 4:00am. Not bad!

16

www.AudiationMagazine.com

4 September After I met Orjan yesterday, we decided to hook up today to work on a collab together in his studio. He is picking me up at 3:00pm so we have plenty of time to get things done. From the start, things went smoothly and we ended up with a really awesome collab. We worked till late that night. It still needs a bit of work, but we will finish it soon.

5 September Travel day today. My first flight is at noon and a later connection in Oslo at 7:00pm. I will have time to get some work done there, and, Oslo airport is amazing. They have one of the best bars in the world.

17

6 September Back home! Waking up after a great night of sleep. Today I have a skype meeting with Ruebx Cube from the USA. We work on pop/EDM/trap tracks together for several big American artists. We are very close with finishing this new song and we try to fix the last details today before my next flight tomorrow. It's great to work together like this, we share screens so we can discuss and both see what we need to adjust. After the Skype meeting, I worked on a song for a couple of hours for an Italian singer, as I produced 3 tracks for his upcoming album. Later today I have an interview with DJ Mag Asia and then this day is full. In the evening I relax with a few episodes of the new season of Narcos on Netflix.

7 September Today is all about checking out new music for the next trip. I am flying tonight via Istanbul to the northern part of Cyprus for a gig at the best club of the island according the party people called Cage Club. Around 10:00pm I take the train to a deserted and empty Schiphol for my 1:00am flight to Istanbul. 18

www.AudiationMagazine.com

8 September A couple hours later I meet the driver to get to the hotel. Not sure if this was a random cab driver or Michael Schumacher found a new job, but this guy was fast as lightning. After a new world record I arrive at the Cratos Hotel early in the morning. I am overwhelmed by the beauty of this place. The room and the pools are amazing and bouganvilles growing everywhere. Later today I will meet my friends I met a few years ago when I played in North Cyprus for the first time, very excited to see them again. First I take a nap after a small tour in this magnificant place. After I woke up it is time to hit the pool with my friends and have some fun with a few beers. It's always amazing to see them again, it feels like we've met yesterday. At night we go for a fantastic dinner and we have "a few" drinks in Kyrenia center. A lovely old town with a nice harbour and a lot of restaurants and bars and the event poster is all over the place. Great promotion there.

19

20

www.AudiationMagazine.com

9 September Friday, it's hot already early in the morning. I planned to go to the gym, but this temperature, just doesn't make me feel like moving more than I should at the moment. But who cares about moving, it's gig day and I just heard they already have over 600 reservations, this night is going to be amazing. As headliner of the night, you just hope the promotion is done well. Good thing they take it very seriously here. In the afternoon we are going to explore Nicosia and we stop at my friend's coffee shop (nothing like the ones in Amsterdam, it's all about coffee here). After some sightseeing we play a few games of Fifa then go back to the hotel for lunch and the beach. After a few hours of swimming and relaxing with crystal clear waters, we freshen up for dinner and go for sound check. The place looks beautiful, the sound is huge and the view from the booth is amazing.

21

My set starts tonight at 1:00am and the resident DJ is already warming up the crowd and he is doing a great job. The place is packed. People brought CD's where my music is on to sign, just great. The club prepared a special intro for my show with an amazing light show and fireworks. The crowd has been amazing and it was great to see a lot of familiar faces from the last 2 times I was here. This was a night I will never forget.

22

www.AudiationMagazine.com

10 September I woke up by some kind of exotic bird that is trying to destroy my balcony. I normally love to be woken up by exotic birds, but just not before noon after a gig. Anyway... just got very good news to wake up with. The night was so successful last night that they decided to book me again for their closing party in 3 weeks. Awesome! Called my friend and we go for lunch. Today I took it very easy, checked my messages, caught some very exotic Pokemon and fell asleep for a couple of hours again. Later that night we have a meeting at the most exclusive hotel of the island for a music project they want to do with me, I am very excited. First we have a bbq while watching Galatasaray with a group of friends, delicious food, beer and football, just perfect. The meeting after went amazing, big new and exciting things coming up.

11 September Today is my flight back to Amsterdam, with a 3 hour stop over in Istanbul, I have time to get some work done in the plane and at the airport. I am very inspired after 2 fantastic weekends, this is what you all do it for. Tomorrow I will start another week full of music, and I am looking forward to it already.

Actors in Music No matter what it is, when people pick a profession, they tend to try and master that skillset alone. Piano players master the piano, actors master acting, teachers master teaching, etc... When my friend that a band called was going to be my college’s radio WLUW, it was the announced it that grabbed everyone’s attention. She said “Yes, is Steve from the Netflix show and his band Post Animal will be noon-2pm!”

announced Post Animal guest hosting at station way she

that Stranger Things, guest hosting from

Not only because I am a Stranger Things addict, I thought this was super interesting because my mind started rolling about how everyone in America sees him as an actor, but who knew that he was also in a band and able to play and/or write music? Steve from Stranger Things sparked this month’s Sarah’s Thoughts by highlighting actors that are secretly, or not so secretly musicians as well.

Steve from Stranger Things – Post Animal Born in Chicago, Illinois, this rock-psych band is not really well-known, but gaining some attention because one of the members, Joe Keery, stars in the Netflix show Stranger Things, playing Steve Harrington. The best way to describe their music, in my opinion, is what you would think of a late-night hook-up during the 70’s would sound like. Listen to “When I Get Home” to understand what I’m talking about. 27

Danny Masterson – DJ Mom Jeans Danny Masterson’s claim to fame was playing Steven Hyde on the sitcom That 70’s Show. For the past couple years, he has been djing after parties during the Lollapalooza weekend in Chicago under the name DJ Mom Jeans. The 40-year-old actor started djing in 1999 in Hollywood, probably as a side project while starring on the hit television show. He still parties hard to this day. To find his other upcoming events, check out his website. www.djmomjeans.com

Ariana Grande Of course the world now knows her as vocalist Ariana Grande with hits like “Into You,” “Break Free,” and “Problem,” but not many know her as the character Cat Valentine from the Nickelodeon show Victorious. That show is where the infamous Ariana Grande red hair was born, and it seems like in a blink of an eye she became the cute, sexy, dangerous woman we know today.

28

www.AudiationMagazine.com

Johnny Depp – Hollywood Vampires Not only is Johnny Depp in this rock band, but so is Alice Cooper and Joe Perry. There is really not much to say about this band as Depp’s name in the press hasn’t been so positive with his divorce from wife Amber Heard. The band was created in 2015 to honor the music of rock stars who died in the 1970’s.

Andy Samberg – The Lonely Island Last but not least, the funniest of them all, Andy Samberg and his two best friends that make up the comedy band The Lonely Island. Formed in the early 1990s in high school, their national debut wasn’t until 2005 on Saturday Night Live, which ultimately led them to perform hits like “I’m on a Boat,” “D*** in a Box,” and “J*** in my Pants.” It makes sense that Samberg would be in a band like this, as his shtick on SNL was the digital shorts, so he would frequently write songs and produce music videos each week. The band recently starred in the parody movie Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, which made fun of the popstar lifestyle.

Sarah's Thoughts 29

FRANK Enter the bizarre world. The film follows a young musician who stumbles across a quirky pop group, the lead figure wearing a character head. However, this head piece remains on even after the shows. The character becomes the artist, the artist becomes the character. Frank. Strange to perceive such a thing? It's not uncommon to find an alias or two in the music and arts world. Most famously, Deadmau5 and Sia, their iconic figures instantly recognizable and stand out in a very unique manner. As with many public figures, once the make-up is done and the spotlight is on them, a vibrant persona is presented. Their identity is their brand. It can be an act to maintain a certain style and appeal to a target audience who will enjoy their work. The aspect that the film emphasises, is when the alter-ego becomes the dominant force. Frank lives in the fantasy of his character rather than showing his true form - rather than facing up to dark realities. The mask of someone in the public eye is a strong force to contend with. Faults will be criticised and splashed across the media, showing weakness can unease fans and lose their respect. But who is the real person underneath? NEW MUSIC Tinashe - Superlove (Danny Blaze Remix) Playing with the texture and vocal cuts, this edit gives sexy chilled vibe to the track. "With support from Diplo on BBC Radio 1Xtra, this is available on my soundcloud or via DJ City. BIG thanks to all the underground DJ's supporting this remix, without you I wouldn't be making this stuff." www.soundcloud.com/ iamdannyblaze

Solarstone - Herald (Transwave Remix) A lovely serene vocal intro leads up to the heavy drop. There is a nice light nature and emotive atmostphere to the edit. ‘Cupid’s Crooked Bow’ is a delightfully intriguing release from the Ghanian rapper M.anifest featuring Nomisupasta. The blend of a feminine touch from vocals and strings against the male lead is a good combination. The visuals have lots of pretty cultural elements to match the music. A rich beautiful artistic vision is painted. Cupid’s Crooked Bow is the second single from M.anifest’s new album ‘Nowhere Cool’, due for release this Winter. M.anifest (born Kwame Ametepee Tsikata) is an award winning Ghanaian rapper and songwriter. He has worked with the likes of Damon Albarn, Flea, Tony Allen and Erykah Badu. The BBC tipped him as one of four acts to look out for in 2012 and in 2013, M.anifest won Best Rapper of the Year and Hip-Hop Song of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards. In 2015 M.anifest's single "Someway Bi" earned him a third place honour in the International Songwriters Competition. In the same year, The Guardian named M.anifest as "the foremost rapper on the continent". "Cupid's bow was crooked and found the wrong lover. That's how it's felt in some of my prior relationships. The song was inspired by having been loved by a woman or two who always knew the difficulties of dating an artist, never wanted to make that choice, yet we found ourselves in a spin of intoxicating love that always threatened to end. Nomisupasta is easily one of my favourite contemporary voices in Africa, and she smashed it on this one.” M.anifest

So excited to see these guys in the studio with the new vocal project UK3, a rewording of UKG and the 3 members - Jay Harvey, Ultra and Oggie. Debut track 'Together' pulls in all of the classic UK Garage tracks into one fun meld alongside a bumpy beat. This will give you a great feelgood vibe and ignite those memories, with a new spirit given to them. "We basically just wanted to remind people of the Genre we came from, and it was a head nod to some of our favourite garage tracks." Oggie describes the creation by saying "we had a brilliant time recording it" and there were "great vibes in the studio". www.facebook.com/uk3official www.twitter.com/uk3official 34

We are treated to a trio of new releases from Daniel Wanrooy.. 'I See The Light' sees Sally Saifi on the vocals and is released on Black Hole Recordings. You can feel the warmth of the sun against your skin as you press play on this trancer. The voice is simply divine whilst the track is beautifully crafted with a hint of middle-eastern culture. 'Komaru' features producer Marc Simz and is released on High Contrast Recordings. Commencing with a hard style tone, we progress to the killer drop. This is a huge impact track to get the party jumping with great energy! 'Nothing Left To Say' features producer Ghost Wars and is to be released on Dancepush, 14th October 2016. This is a bright dance track to given you a joyful feeling. The release as an EP also includes remixes from Funkagenda and Ken Loi. 35

Aptly titled, this killer track is such a party starter! 'Livewire' is released as a part of Toolroom Ibiza 2016 Vol 2. The tough urban streets are no place for the faint-hearted, and neither is this mixtape! Dirty dark Hip Hop productions pave the way for gritty rap lyrics in the new 'Let's Lurk' mistape from 67. 48 hours after picking up the ‘Best Mixtape’ award for ‘In Skengs We Trust’ at the K.A & GRM Daily Rated Awards, the original UK Drillaz, ‘67’ release brand new mixtape ‘Lets Lurk’ and it has soared straight to No.1 in the iTunes Hip Hop chart. Released in early 2016, street anthem, ‘Let’s Lurk’, featuring rap lord Giggs, provided the title and the first insight to the 18-track tape. Highly supported ‘Traumatized’ is also found lurking on the tracklist and now 67 unleash a tsunami of previously unheard audio that are set to make ‘Lets Lurk’ a future classic. Known as one of the rawest crews in UK rap, the south Londoners have become infamous in a shortspace of time, gatecrashing UK music’s commercial landscape and gaining a mass following online. Compared to the likes of Section Boyz and Stormzy due to the similarities of their rapid ascents in to the media, that is where the similarities end and the authenticity of 67 shines through. www.6ix7even.com 38

As featured on ASOT #782, this is a great progressive track with high-octane electro adrenaline! Solarstone's Pure Trance movement has helped redefine the trance landscape since it's inception in 2012. Pure Trance Progressive is it's latest expansion - focusing on promoting the resurging deeper, slower side of the Pure Trance sound. Here is something special from our Russian friend Gordey Tsukanov (P.K.A. Gosh!), a meaty and brooding piece of progressive pure trance music. Reminiscent of Sasha's 'Xpander', it is awash with atmospheric sweeping pads, crisp decapacitated synth sequences and a mighty filtered phat lead that will take no prisoners on any dark, strobe-lit dancefloor. Out now on Pure Trance Progressive. www.puretrance.com 40
