CYCLING: Daruty Forest Listening to Leon Bolier - Shimamoto If you are into mountain biking or road biking, well guess what, Mauritius is the place to be. I starting mountain biking a couple of years ago, and I can tell you that I myself wasn't aware Mauritius had such amazing places for mountain biking. Of course there are sugarcane fields all over the island which makes it fun, but the best part is there are several endemic forests which are the best places around. My favorite place for mountain biking regularly is Daruty Forest. Located in the north of the island, it's one of the most unique forests of its kind. The forest is divided in two parts. one side starts from Grand Baie motorway and the second one from Vale to Petit Raffrey. The tracks are part rocky terrain, flat surfaces, couple of hilly sections and of course off-road tracks as you would expect. I would definitely recommend anyone into mountain biking to give it a go as the sensation is unique on its own. -- Awad 10

Bruno Mars I think it’s about time to feature the one and only Bruno Mars, you know, since he’s back again (“24K Magic” reference, just in case you didn’t pick up). Peter Gene Hernandez, professionally known as Bruno Mars was born on October 8, 1985 in Honolulu, Hawaii. ‘Bruno’ came from a childhood nickname when his dad thought his son resembled professional wrestler Bruno Sammartino. ‘Mars’ from his quote “…a lot of girls say I’m out of this world, so I was like I guess I’m from Mars,” Growing up in a musical family, he was introduced to many genres at a young age. He was known around his island as the four-year-old Elvis Presley impersonator. He moved to Los Angeles post-high school in hopes to launch a music career. In 2009, he was signed by Atlantic records. Here, he co-founded the production team The Smeezingtons which is responsible for singles “Nothing on You” by B.o.B. and “Billionaire” by Travie McCoy. Following those was his debut album Doo-Wops & Hooligans in 2010. 2012 brought his second studio album called Unorthodox Jukebox.

To date, he has sold over 100 million singles and albums worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists of all time. He has won four Grammys. He has landed six number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100, attaining his first five faster than any male artist since, coincidentally, Elvis Presley. Makes sense why people describe him as out of this world. 11

Top 10 Bruno Mars songs: 1. Uptown Funk (Mark Ronson song) Probably the most popular song in 2015, Uptown Funk still starts the party. Literally. A couple weeks ago at a street festival some woman asked me to play this song and she danced the entire duration of the song nonstop. She was into it. As is the rest of the world. It’s just so dang catchy! 2. Grenade One of the most romantically depressing songs on his roster. It is about how he would do anything for this girl, including catching a grenade and jumping in front of a train, but she wouldn’t do the same. This song is very relatable not only in romantic relationships, but every other kind of relationship as well. We all know someone where you think you put more into the relationship, but don’t receive the same in return. 3. When I Was Your Man Honestly, never gave this song it’s time of day solely because slow songs aren’t my forte, but this song is another romantically depressing one. I think he was going through a rough time when these songs were written, because they both really bring up emotions and thoughts that 12

you really have to go through something to understand. The song is basically about all the things he would change about himself if he was dating his exgirlfriend, and hoping her new boyfriend is making up for his mistakes. 4. Gorilla The sexiest song on his roster, this is basically about an intense shag, (I’m picking up on British terms!). My favorite thing about this song is when he performs it live, because all the note changes and graphics on the screen give goosebumps. He normally drops to his knees at the end of each performance, which shows how much power and soul he puts into his performances. 5. Locked Out Of Heaven Pretty upbeat song for going through a dry spell, right? All I got to say really… 6. Treasure This is one of his top songs on Spotify, and definitely one of the most upbeat. He makes us girls feel so happy by calling us treasures and makes everyone want to dance. 7. Just The Way You Are Instant tear-jerker, definitely for girls because he sings everything girls want to hear. A www.AudiationMagazine.com

lot of girls put so much time into their appearance, and he tells them it’s not about the superficial stuff, but it’s about just the way you are. And that in itself is beautiful. 8. The Lazy Song If you don’t feel like doing anything, Bruno Mars gets it! He captures every possible thing one can do on a lazy day, which made this song climb to number four on the United States Billboard Hot 100 chart. 9. Billionaire (Travie McCoy song) This song was the world’s introduction to Bruno Mars, which basically warned the world to prepare for his arrival to the industry. People were more aware of Travie McCoy rather than Bruno Mars, but Mars definitely left a long-standing impression with his vocals in the song. The song is simply about wanting to be a billionaire, which is a nice metaphor for the beginning of his career, which highlighted his motivation to succeed in the industry. I need to ask, is he a billionaire yet? 10. 24K Magic I don’t care who you are or what you do, this song will grow on you and will quickly become one of your favorites in 2016. To be honest, this song really seems

like he is speaking nonsense, but it somehow makes sense. It’s basically about him having a good time when he’s got money, I think… This single was his follow-up from his feature in Uptown Funk, so his team probably had a lot of pressure releasing a great one, but man oh man does it deliver. I don’t even know if people actually wear pinky rings, but that’s the first thing on this year’s Christmas list so I can put it to the moon, again, whatever that means. And of course we cannot forget the once-in-a-lifetime honor to perform at the Superbowl in 2014! However, once-in-alifetime was not good enough for him! Coldplay invited him back as a guest appearance two years later during their halftime show. I think that is the ultimate “I made it” moment. In order to entertain an entire nation during halftime of the most watched thing on television, they have to pick someone everyone will know and enjoy. His third album 24K Magic drops on November 18. Every Tattoo Has A Meaning The buzz of that tattoo machine fills me with joy knowing that I’m about to have artwork displayed on my body forever. The artist has free will to decorate me with his/hers design and I get excited each time. 26 tattoos later and I still yearn for that needle to penetrate my skin for hours on end. Each and every one of my tattoos has a meaning and is special in its own way. Whether it's a memorial for my nan or the time my daughter was born. I have no regrets when it comes to my tattoos for each one was designed and tailored to fit my taste and my body. You see, people say to me “you’ll regret those when you’re older, what will you look like?” I look at them and answer softly, for I will be a part of a generation that is a tattooed grandparent. My sagging skin will be decorated with artwork and designs picked by me and I will look awesome! I remember clearly my first tattoo and how nervous I was to go under the needle. As soon as that needle broke my skin, I knew I was gonna be addicted. Always think about your tattoos though, put thought into them, don’t rush them. 18

Everyone is unique and our bodies are canvasses waiting to be decorated. Blank arms and legs await to be inked by artists all over the world. Whether it’s sleeve tattoos, thigh pieces or a small butterfly on your shoulder.. Each tattoo is a special piece of art waiting to be placed onto your skin. In a generation of many teenagers, it’s now the in thing to be tattooed - I can’t find a single person who doesn’t have a tattoo. We are a new generation of people displaying art proudly on our bodies and I’m proud to be one of those people. May we continue to proudly display artists' work on us and be cool grandparents in years to come. Happy inking. <3

Royal Ink The inspiration for all of my tattoos comes from me. Its always a very thought through idea and I love getting ink!!! This one was really meaningful because I feel like I took a big chance 2 years ago to change career path and follow my dreams with music, although I've always been involved with modelling and fashion on the side for years. I feel like I'm in a position where I can say that was the best move I ever made! This tattoo is a celebration of that! Queen E came to me as a DJ name very quickly as everyone always makes the link between the name Elizabeth and royalty and I feel like the crown fits! The show is on to bigger and better things and the sky's the limit... My shows are going great!! I'm so grateful for Rosko at Southstar Radio for giving me my first opportunity on the air, I learned allot being with them and it really gave me a boost and the confidence to do what I wanna do. The Queen E show is streamed live from my website weekly and although we have backing from some well established names, it's very much my thing. It's all music. We wanna be different from the mainstream - no adverts, no news and I don't talk over the best part of the song! We open the doors to signed and unsigned artists to come through and do their thing LIVE and UNCUT... and when we say live, we mean live! We have created a really chilled vibe in the studio and we get great relaxed interviews where the artist can actually talk about what they wanna talk about. I'm excited to see where I can take it and really appreciate all the support your mag and everyone else involved has shown me.

EGO Put out the fire in my head, Lift my spirit from the ashes. Everything that I thought that I could be, They were all lost in the fire. "Get out of my head", I plead. He refuses to let me live. He said, "We're the same, you and me... You've become someone you never thought you'd be. So bite the bullet and take the shot. Surrender yourself in defeat. Your intentions will never be good enough... Your being here has hurt enough." And I thought to myself, "It's no use turning back now, It's impossible to be forgiven. So bite the bullet and take the shot. Prevention's better than cure. And I don't want anyone to hurt no more." I cupped the barrel of the gun, Placed it in my mouth, Finger on the trigger... He put out the fire in my head, And my spirit was lifted from the ashes. Everything that I could've been, they were all lost in the fire. -- David 22

Katie Melua featuring Gori Women's Choir In Winter The artwork holds three colours. The backing in a pretty teal is covered with an intricate winter design in ivory. The figure of a lady is seen perching in the centre holding a guitar which embraces a vivid scarlet material. This visual scene paints the picture of a sound that will be lovely and subtle, though with a hint of something bold and ravishing. This is a simply divine album with the main focus on heavenly harmonies and vocal dynamics. There are very few intruments used to allow this level of beautiful experimentation. "The idea came from a conversation," says Katie as she describes the discovery of not being able to find an album to suit the winter season. There was a need for "an album that would fill the house with wonderful, warm, poignant sounds rather than the usual jingle-bells pop songs." The cosy and chilled tone throughout is a perfect accompaniment for the winter months. My favourite song from the album is "River". To be released on 14th October 2016. www.katiemelua.com 28

My Autumn Six

Professor Green - Back On The Market Being a well-loved wordsmith is something that many of the East London born artists can boast of, but Professor Green has made a number of chart topping tracks to prove it. Over the past few years, Professor Green seemed more focused on taking care of his relationship with now ex-wife Millie and trying to stay out of the way of the police. Not shying away from the facts, he has rightfully released a track that addresses the issue and is a clear message to his ex-wife. He is ruthlessly honest in this track so beware. And I’m not sure the guys over at Virgin records will be going for dinner with Green Bonkaz – Working Under Pressure anytime soon after the way he talks The title track from his recent 4-track about them on this track. release. The project is an amazing insight to the Bonkaz mindset and a look at how talented the young artist is. This track is a great piece in which Bonkaz give us an amazing story of a young man whose life is filled with ups & downs and wrongs & rights. How he does this in just under 4 minutes is such an amazing thing. If you like UK rap with a death story and traditional boom bap hip-hop, this track might be your thing.

Double S – YAYA Darg Double S drops a sick visual for his track Yaya Darg which is raking up views real fast. The riddim has a certified UK grime sound, them drums you just can't help but love. His flow is on 100 on this track, he even revisits a flow which was first used by grime legend Dizzee Rascal something many older fans of grime will notice clearly. 33

crazy buzz with his very individual sound and style, Lancey Foux is one of the most creative young men I have ever been in a room with. I’m going the let you check this one out for yourself, but I promise this is definitely something you need to get your ears around - You don’t discover artists like Lancey Foux everyday!

Ray BLK Ft SG Lewis - Chill Out The South London songstress recently blessed the world with some muchneeded autumn ear candy, which is perfectly titled Chill Out. An amazing combination of airy synths, gliding bass lines and a dope drum beat sprinkled with a falsetto topline. Be sure to check out her live show in February at Village Underground London. Say Naye – Southside New Pack This is one of those artists that you will hear and be totally confused as to why they are yet to signed by a major and broadcasted all over mass media outlets. The south London songwriter and producer is literally a diamond in the rough. This song is for all the stoners, a perfect 420 love song in soulful vocal tones accompanied by a future RnB aesthetic. This is something you have to give a listen.

Heartbreak has never been sweeter. This rendition holds incredible vocals tones with a somber nature on a breezy melody. The black and white visuals show nice scenes leading up to celebrations. I'm disgusted at what you've become, but glad I now see your true colours. Toddla T drops the video for bittersweet single ‘Always’ featuring the legendary Andrea Martin. Filmed on the streets of Jamaica, the official video captures the sweet reggae vibes and the off-beats of the drums whilst bringing the Jamaican sunshine. With the dance moves in full swing, the power and soul coming from the vocals of Andrea Martin and the patois from Silkki Wonda, the combination make the record the perfect remedy for even the darkest of summers day. www.steeze.co.uk 36

Relive ADE with this momento of great electronic talent. Expect bold styles and hard floorfillers. A twelve track journey through some of the best electronic music in the field - featuring an impressive line up from their ever-growing pool of talent.. McGrego is first up bringing the festival vibes with energized beats and hyper vocals in ‘Out There’, a crowd-rousing anthem with an infectious beat. Sinking into tougher, underground territory the LP follows with the unashamedly gritty sounds of Ryuken’s ‘Crazy Hoe’, with Pentia’s ‘Scrts’ and Ben Read’s ‘Feeling Good’ following later in similar vain. Justin Long’s ‘Somethings Got Me’ pairs a relaxed, danceable melody with a heartfelt vocal from Ella Sopp, while Bobby Harvey uses the distorted, growling vocal lines on ‘Tribal Connection’ to help build an earthy, peak-time sound. Other artists making the cut include Pablo Riva, Josh Coakley, Jimmy Lemper, Gemfire and Dirty Mango. And bringing this formidable sampler to a close, OneFold serves up Blu Leapord’s ‘The Intro (R Bass)’, a heavy impact dance floor smash with spine-tingling synths and stratospheric drops. www.onefolddigital.com 38

There are two sides to this release, light and bright against dark and edgy. The more vocal "Where You Went" has a fun and lively feel whilst "Hot Tainted Love" is an afterdark track with harsher, moodier bass. After a refreshingly drawn-out summer of recreation, Love & Other fires up it’s engines once more to proudly welcome the prosperous DJ S.K.T to it’s ranks - effortless in both rawness and intensity, the ‘Where You Went’ EP delivers a broad range of styles in an elegant cross-pollination of sound. Title track ‘Where You Went’ features a soulful vocal lead, jagged percussions and pulsing subs that gracefully cut through a rich 2-step drum figure. Playing on a timeless and classic theme, S.K.T opts for a garage-gone-bass panache in this UK-tinged dancefloor weapon. On the flip, the slow and groove-orientated ‘Hot Tainted Love’ sucks you into a jerry-rigged arrangement of rolling beats and a haunting spokenword. Before the mid-section the female vocal shifts in intensity bringing with it a beautifully convoluted chord melody, inducing an almost dystopian state of trance - so good! On top of an excellent string of releases in 2016 this intricately programmed EP marks the close to a very successful summer for DJ S.K. T, and a reimagined outlook for Love & Other. www.djskt.com

A thrilling boundary-busting meld of rock, electronica, blues and soul. The feisty rockers have gained support from X FM, Niji Magazine, Rormix, Gigslutz, Rock XS Radio, Martin Aston and more. www.independentmusicawards.com 40
