Memories shared on World Radio Day, 13th February 2017... "Back in the old days, we didn't have the luxury of digital radio. You'd have to work to listen to your favourite djs and music. The stereo would b e m o v e d t o a s p e c i fi c a r e a i n t h e r o o m , w i t h t h e aerial and dial being adjusted countless times to pinpoint the best possible sound of the station." "I used to listen to Kerrang Radio some years ago, but now mostly self-organised playlists for some reasons." "Kerrang was awesome, but likewise, I think podcasts interest me more with a broader variety." "I <3 Rocker's Dive Radio. Great music and great people around (there is a chat, so you can discuss songs during the airplay). I discovered cool new rock and blues songs." "The idea for people to discuss the songs is brilliant for everyone to feel more connected!" "Rokkus Radio and Somer Valley FM are amazing radio stations too." "My go to stations in the UK really are KISS FM UK and BBC Radio 1 which do have some interesting sections between the commercial slots."

Miama, Florida to start a new life in the States. I’ve noticed in interviews she explained she learned English through listening to music and watching television shows. She also stated she was a HUGE One Direction fan, which inspired her to audition for The X Factor at age 16 in North Carolina.
Camila Cabello Alright, I need to refresh, reintroduce or introduce everyone to this major artist in the States known as Camila Cabello. You probably know her from being 1/5 of Fifth Harmony, and that last December she announced she was leaving the band due to personal interests and conflicts with the other members. Even though while putting yourself in her shoes, that sounds like the riskiest and scariest idea ever, she is truly KILLING the solo life!
Her journey on The X Factor was scarily similar to One Direction’s, which I can only imagine was a dream come true for her. She was eliminated during the “bootcamp” portion of the contest, but was brought back on stage with four other girls and was placed in a group. Sounds familiar, right? They named the band multiple names like Lilas and 1234, but finally landed on Fifth Harmony. Numbers in the title, familiar? Coincidentally, they finished third place one the show, the exact place as One Direction. It was basically the female version of the group.
To be honest, no one knew what was going to happen with them. I remember them all going home and going back to school. But I guess either Simon Cowell or L.A. Reid called them back to Los Angeles to sign them as a group to Syco Records and Epic Records. In 2013, they Let’s start from the beginning… released an EP in English and Spanish called Better Together. In between the two album releases, she shared a new song with Shawn Mendes called “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” which they wrote backstage at a Taylor Swift concert. This is where the speculation started that she was leaving, and there was jealousy between the other girls in the group of her solo recognition. IKWYDLS was certified platinum. She also released another song called “Bad Things” with Machine Gun Kelly in October 2016, which showed a sexier side to the cleancut singer. “Bad Things” peaked at number four on the Billboard Top 100 Chart. She was also placed on Time Magazine’s “Top 25 Most Influential Teens of 2016,” which was the last year she could be placed on that list as she turned twenty in early March. To be honest, I am completely excited to see what she has in store. Her most recent release was a feature on “Hey Ma” with Pitbull and J Balvin for the 12

Runway lights, destination out of sight. Up in the air it all seems unclear, Nowhere near the ground yet I do not fear. Take me away into the night. Runway lights guide me to home. I'm destined to run, ready to fly. I'm following my heart, ready to live high. Take me away to a place where I feel I'm not alone. Runway lights fade behind me. I live by faith, not by sight. I refuse to live in the darkness of fright. Take me away, take me through the night. -- David

Josh Lasden The DJ, producer and El Futuro Recordings label manager from Belgium. We previously interviewed Josh Lasden after an incredible performance at Tomorrowland festival where he felt "lucky" to be a part of the atmosphere. Since then, The artist has continued to perform internationally and is now celebrating 10 years of the El Futuro Recordings imprint of which we discussed with him. Congratulations for 10 years of El Futuro Recordings, which is your favourite release on the label? Thank you. It has been a great ride so far, choosing a favourite release is difficult. But, I like the 'Love At Breakfast' releases with remixes from Hazem Beltagui, Nerutto, Emma & Not Okay just to name a few. The 'Re-Baking HBF16' release has got a special place in my heart as this release was made for the 10th anniversary of the Herbakkersfestival, the official music festival of my home town. Not to forget the albums (Radiogenic, Ride To Tomorrow, 10 Years El Futuro Recordings) and the deep house track 'Circles Of Music' capturing the voice of Mátyás Blanckaert that is being used by the Tomorrowland festival for one of their promotional videos this year. The Nathan Coles remix of 'Lebanese Girl' and the Nils Hess rework of 'Juicy Lucy' are both a great asset for the label. Last but not least, the videoclip of 'Love At Breakfast' featuring Justine De Jonckheere (Miss Belgium 2011) and actor Eric Kempeneers is a special short
film and was nominated for the International Kortfilm Festival in Louvain in 2012. The aim was to share futuristic electronic music, how successful has the label been with this vision? Yes, futuristic music has always been the aim of the El Futuro concept that started in 1998. For the radioshow, events and the label, that specific futuristic character has been the general or red thread. We just want to provide music that’s not based on a temporary period in the electronic music adventure and still can move people today. Some music genres are having a down and up period in means of popularity. For example, the track 'Wavecatcher' still moves people today, this track was made in 2005 and was first played by Laurent Garnier in 2007 during a dj set in Cielo (New York) and finally got released in 2008 featured in the Futuristic Music Part 2 EP. Armin van Buuren supported the track from the beginning in 2008 and selected it in 2012 again for his A State Of Trance #550 podcast episode and we’re still getting great feedback for this track today. Tracks such as 'Love At Breakfast', 'U & I', 'Wednesday Morning', 'Emotions', 'Deep Blue Sea' and 'Fundamental Frequencies' are all holding that same futuristic idea. So, I feel that the futuristic character of the whole El Futuro concept is succeeding. What can you tell us about the new album, 10 Years El Futuro Recordings? This is a mixed compilation selecting the best tracks of the label and also 15

presenting 3 new tracks. 'Love The Future' and 'Meeting The Mermaids' are both chill out tracks, and 'Angels In Heaven' is a deep progressive house oriented track. The selection of the best tracks is rather small as the full mix was specially reduced to a less than 60 minutes album. Getting feedback and also thinking about all those people who are streaming music nowadays, I feel that it would be better presented as a short mixed album instead of a long piece of music. There will also be a chill out mixed album released later on this year.
about vinyls, weekly visits to shops and hoping to buy the next big release to test those vinyls in your sets. You know, those times when people were asking for mixed tapes while you were performing in a club or on an event. We did release 2 vinyls on the El Futuro Recordings label, very limited with only 500 copies available, but I had to change that strategy and fully concentrate on download, online and streaming portals, which we still do today. Now that streaming services such as iTunes and Spotify are accessible for everyone on their mobile phones, this will result in a complete new wave for artists, labels and the music industry in general. Where are your favourite places to visit in Belgium?
If you’re visiting Belgium to go clubbing, you really should go to the following clubs: Fuse, Café d’Anvers, La Rocca, Versuz, Krush, Lagoa, Balmoral and Decadance. Plus the new ones: Forty Five, Labyrinth Club, Kompass and Ampere. They all have that special warm vibe you’ll be looking for. The Ipanema beach bar on top of the Versuz club during the summer is fabulous, creating a lounge with a pool, beach and great atmosphere. The city of Ghent organizes the annual 10-days festivities or Gentse Feesten, a free festival combining art, street music and many stages around the city with thousands of visitors coming over every year. It’s really wonderful to experience those 10-days festivities. About special venues, well we have Le Botanique, Bozar and AB in Brussels, Vooruit and Charlatan in Ghent, N9 in Eeklo, Blue Buddha lounge in Knokke. There are many good places to eat and enjoy delicious food, but if I have to point out a few of them, it’s enjoyable to go to Restaurant Vrijmoed, The Jane, Hof Van Cleve, Hertog Jan, Innesto, Ten Bogaerde, Kommilfoo, Dessensi, Le Passage and Da Mimmo.

Worlwide - visits and gigs in Spain, France, UK, Italy, The Netherlands, Germany, Australia were fabulous. In fact, in a short period I played in the 3 major fashion cities in Europe: Paris, Milan and London. I do have wonderful memories about those cities. The Yoga Girl Okay gang, raise your hand if you know what Nada Yoga is. If you are reading this with your hand in air, then I applaud you. It's a new discovery for me whilst browsing Gaia, seeing it described as the yoga of sound, I just had to learn more. Although I've come across chanting before as well as pairing music to sessions, this seems to be entirely audio focused, so let's find out about it. Nada yoga is simply the union of sound. This ranges in a few forms:
in the body and try to relax it. Find the balance between relaxation and the strength. Really train your mind to observe the situation in a precise way instead of trying so hard and only focusing on the sound itself. Settle the mind - the more natural and at ease in yourself, the better the sound will be. There is also a mention on how the world runs on vibrations and that sounds play a huge part in our system, so much so that even people can understand an individual's health status just by their voice.
For me, I'm not one for meditation or mantras etc, but I do feel a huge benefit from sounds and also silence when doing yoga. During the more dynamic routines, a great chill out playlist works a treat to keep me in the right mindset. And for the slower-paced sessions, silence is golden, de-cluttering In the article in which I first learned of the mind and Nada Yoga, the writer is a singer who being at peace. essentially found her voice by learning to listen to what her body was telling her. Listen to the way in which the sound comes out, sense any tension - To calm the mind, sitting in meditation, perhaps with an instrumental background piece. But actually listening to your own inner sounds, anahata, which are said to come from the central energy from within our bodies. - With mantras for various things such as gaining optimism, confidence or luck. - Chanting in order to connect with the spiritual higher powers.

Superhand - Can't See The Point No More Whenever you listen and watch anything from this band, you are transported into a different realm, deep inside the minds of superhuman beings. Feeling emotions so vividly, seeing the world through a twisted dimension, yet seeing the world in a brutally honest form. It's an experience. "Thanks for all the bad news you keep on bringing into my world." This world drains us, it takes away all of our confidence, hopes and desires while pushing us down. The video shows simply white circles on a black background. Experimenting with focus and slight peeks of the artists at work. It's a beautiful creation. The music is equally as disoriented and beautiful with the lull of vocals. You lose yourself. www.facebook.com/superhandland

We have been anticipating this for a while, the UK3 trio's debut video for 'Together' is finally here. It encompasses everything that these boys are about so well. They want to enjoy themselves whilst expressing their love for UK Garage music and singing. The video mixes a professional black & white studio session with direct camera interaction and playful cuts sharing their charismatic energy. Charles Jay's remix pumps up the energy and plays with the tones through the track. Expect a funky beat and fresh style which really pull all the vocals together creating something fun for the modern-day garage enthusiasts. This really makes you feel good and you enjoy the experience with them! www.facebook.com/uk3official 24

The video for Ooberfuse's 'On My Knees' follows the day of a young girl in a rural setting. She is sent on an errand to deliver cupcakes. If you love dance music, you'll recognise 'You're Not Alone' by Scotty Boy & Lizzie Curious as a cover of the classic anthem by Olive. Lizzie's feathery and seductive voice is paired with a colourful club production. The visuals compliment the track well, starting off on the beachside with flowing motions then moving to a boat party with everyone just enjoying the atmosphere. #1 Billboard-charting artists Scotty Boy and Lizzie Curious team up for a unique tropical house take on the revered dance classic, "You're Not Alone". Combining Lizzie's angelic vocals with sunkissed house beats, dreamy pads and a catchy riff, "You're Not Alone" will be THE soundtrack for the summer and beyond. Grammy-nominated producer StoneBridge turns in an inspired, funky remix that will set the clubs alight, and Lizzie Curious provides a driving progressive remix that is sure to get those hands in the air. Okay it is another catchy poptastic song, but I do like the theme which a fair few musicians have previously used of the world being a precisely constructed bubbled reality. Put your rose-coloured glasses on, and party on.

Mike Delinquent unveils 'The Catalyst EP'. In with the heavy bassline, first track 'Poseiden' then throws in some latin string elements which completely surprise you, the fun play with sounds and twists on this track is really cool. Next up is 'I Got The Flow' featuring Flirta D & Scruffizer, the title explains it well with fresh bars on top of a rhythmic grime beat. Third track 'Take Your Love' features soft vocals from Olivia Louise, this is so alluring with sweet strings to compliment and a contrasting wobbly bass. '2nd Symphony' completes the EP, this dark instrumental piece is a great all-rounder with a lively tempo, dramatic break melodies and gritty style. Mike Delinquent is always so on point when it comes to producing new, interesting urban music. This is just heaven for bassline lovers. www.soundcloud.com/mikedelinquent 31
U.Z's 'Moments Of Life EP' is a melodic journey of thoughts, taking in the natural surroundings and life's experiences. There are influences from the jazz, funk and ambient styles which are sculpted into the sounds creating a flavourful tone throughout. The project is a "radically different vibe than my usual style," explains U.Z. The 'Haze EP' from Blackboxx is quite a lively and fun release with garage beats paving the way throughout. I love to listen to all the subtle elements in Slime releases and this, of course, does not dissapoint with delicate piano tunes and little bass wobbles here and there. The sounds are paired with choppy melds of vocal cuts, a few of which you may recognise from some classics. The Edinburgh producer has been going from strength to strength since the release of his ‘Nightshades’ and 'Slipstream' EPs on the label last year. One of the most creative producers operating in the underground Garage scene, his ear for melody and skill with vocals has seen his work get wider and wider exposure with consistent radio play on 1Xtra, Rinse and Kiss FM as well as growing support from tastemakers such as Jamz Supernova and Hannah Wants. ‘Loveless’ doubles down on the best elements of a Blackboxx jam; summery chords and chopped R&B vocals rub up against a seductive groove, making for an irresistibly feel good track that is pure sunshine. ‘Estre’ continues this path with glittering strings and bass stabs impeccably mixed into a laconic concoction that is just simply good for your soul. ‘Quaalude’ steps up a gear with a classic 4X4 bumpy rhythm underpinning saccharine vocals and warm pads before unfurling into a bass-heavy roller that will get the dancefloor rocking. ‘Cheekbones’ closes off proceedings with a stunning fermentation of his sound, coalescing the constituent parts of his formulae into something that sits between UKG, R&B and Electronica with mesmerizing results. www.slimeshop.co.uk

This is an exceptional release, actually someone mentioned to me that the UK are leading in House music once again. You know what - it's because of great independent labels like Audio Rehab throwing their passion into each element and staying true to what great house music is all about. This LP is the perfect momento to showcase that, with inspiration from where it originated in Chicago up to the modern day era. Dear Diary, The first long holiday I've had since launching the magazine threw lots of worry my way. I never like to disappoint, so I had planned bits here and there in the hope that I would be able to balance it all. But it was all a bit too much and, I've got to remind myself that "it's okay". Yes, we missed the March edition, and I am really sorry to all our readers who were looking forward to it, but the music will never fade and this issue is extra special to make up for it. Whenever I go to Mauritius, I usually do the same types of things, visiting the local areas and sights. But this time, I decided to make a change to that and try and make the most of each day as it has been far too long since I've visited here. Being a girl in a traditional family, I encountered some challenges from stepping out of the normality and going against the standards, it is not easy being different but it certainly makes for exceptional experiences. I've met so many amazing people and found that sound plays a huge part to the island, in fact there is always some sort of noise around. I am attempting to recollect all my experiences, half written in my last week and half back here in the UK. I also made some recordings of particular songs that I enjoyed, though it is certainly not easy finding out what they are called. Hopefully it'll all end up making sense and that you'll enjoy reading my journal. The bus is the main way of travelling, they are a crazy mess. You have no idea where you're going half the time, and only 50% of people will really have a clue and 5% will actually be able to help you. On a lot of the buses there is radio playing through which is cool. It's usually one of three types: sega, Indian or general pop. One song I loved hearing was Depeche Mode - Policy Of Truth. RADIO I've not had too much experiences of the radio here yet, though the stations that should be noted are Best FM, Top FM and Music FM. They have ranges of the traditional styles and general pop during the day. Then, on certain days and specific 41

night time slots, you'll get some good dance music. Back in the UK, flicking through, I find that Radio One (R1) is a favourite with international music. Compared to before, having only one good hour on a Sunday night, I can definitely say that the range for broader audiences has improved. I hear from Steve that Music FM has a nice variety playing jazz, rock, soul and more on certain slots - usually the weekend, with live on-air performances too. Speaking of Steve, how fab it was to meet my Mauritian team. He always writes some interesting articles and bringing the creole language in too was a genius idea. You may remember the snug and warm Librairie Le Tr fle run by Amandine. It is as lovely as he had written with music playing through the store at times and a friendly atmosphere. I would just say that for all the libraries here, it would be nice to have comfy seating areas. Steve also put a lovely statement to our team: we are all scattered around the world and bound by music. Another long-overdue meeting was with Awad who has supported us lots and also writes adventure pieces. We journeyed up to Roche Noir beach areas and it was such a pretty day with the sun shining and a clear blue sky. It was great to just explore and enjoy the sceneries. We also did a small trail, which was a little underwhelming but we did spot some old train tracks. Little fact, Mauritius stopped using railways in the mid 60s due to the lack of profitably from the systems. Our creative girl Ashna has also been by my side a lot, she is like a sister to me and it's so great to 43
see her after all these years. Her artwork is beyond amazing and she did some pretty nail art designs for me. ART More scribbles on me are the henna by my dear cousin Anisha. According to an old wives tale, my husband will love me lots because it always comes out dark on my skin let's just leave that subject be, ay! It was lovely to see the umbrellas hanging over Port Louis. There had also been a white tree of hearts and other pieces which I must've missed. It was all taken down by March, though there are lots of new installations around to celebrate the 49th Mauritian Independence Day which took place on 12th March. There is so much prettiness on the island, it is a work of natural art in itself, though in the local regions it's a shame to see so much trash. I think there needs to be a bigger push to keep the island cleaner and preserve it's beauty. This is a lovely snap to represent the precious reality. Water droplets have somehow placed themselves in the middle of these delicate red flowers, glistening like tiny diamond centres.
From sparkling centres to silvery gift boxes. My cousin got married. Now, usually when you talk of a Mauritian wedding, people will think about a huge 4 day occasion with 44

many traditional elements. This was a change to that with a far more simpler style, they broke the rules and did it in their own lovely way. I think more people should follow this method of thinking and turn their own dreams into a reality. The venue was situated in a peaceful area with the mountains nearby and this lovely river. You would stand on the bridge, close your eyes and just enjoy the incredibly soothing sounds of the water whilst the sun shines down on you. Mari Bon Sa! I don't know what it is about being by water, it just calms my mind. This is my favourite discovery, Bain Boeuf. The sea is calm, the place is quiet. I felt so much at ease here, even though the beach itself isn't one of the most popular. Thanks to some friends for the road trip here, also passing The Perebeyer beach which has a crystal clear sea. It was raining though, so not as picturesque as it would be in the sunshine.
It's summer time in Mauritius, so the sun when it is out is extra hot. Time for a refreshing drink.
Close your eyes and allow the tranquil waves to envelop you into its soothing rhythm.
THE IRISH Everyone from friends to family told me that The Irish is THE place to go. I visited here so much that it practically became my second home. To know the history and progress of the company right from the start, and finally see how good it has become, is just amazing. You may remember our

interview with owner Javed Vayid exactly a year ago to which I'm writing this. Meeting the man himself was more than inspirational. In fact, it is really difficult to describe him. His passion, attention to detail and proactive nature is so high that when he envisions an idea, you will witness it being brought to life within a matter of months, or even weeks. I found myself gazing and listening to his words, encompassed by his aura. There are very few individuals in the world who have this gift, and two of which I met on this trip. These people are born to shake the world up, they have an energy within them which is bigger than even themselves. These people are destined for greatness with a pure mind guiding them and you will feel this vibe radiating from them too. I was whisked off to a meeting at a top class hotel where the plans unfolded for Javed's next events project. Even though Mauritius is generally quite behind Europe, the current trends are similar with fewer trusted club nights whilst daytime parties are increasing in popularity. This next venture will complete his trio of island entertainments and, though I shan't reveal too much, I will say that it is something exciting to watch out for. C'est Top! Speaking of which, as well as running things over at The Irish, Javed teamed up with a hotel resort in Flic En Flac to create PURE at Sofitel Mauritius L'imperial. The events are going well with a chilled atmosphere, the gorgeous beach and great music. My love for the Ibiza sound was re-ignited, I urge you all to press play on 'Toi' and 'Cerisier Blanc' by Worakis.

Back to The Irish, I thank the staff hugely for their hospitality. The chance meetings and stories of how each one came to work there warmed me. From a simple chat, some had even flown from afar for the job and found themselves remaining long-term. The food and drinks were so delicious and creatively presented, Merci Cedric the bartender and chef Ronan! The concept of The Irish is very unique. By day, the restaurant and pub aspect take centre stage. I enjoyed a lovely meal with an exceptionally calm atmosphere and Irish folk music streaming through. By night on a Friday & Saturday, the party vibe oozes in completely shifting the tone and audience range. I was thrilled to be able to see incredible live performances from Fabien Cornelius & Days Order on the outside deck as well as another amazing band fronted by a lead female of which I unfortunately did not catch the name of. Mauritian Jazz singer Fabien Cornelius is well known for being a candidate on The Voice France in 2015. At just 17 years old, he did very well on the show and made it through to the Battles. To celebrate the Mauritius Independence, The Irish brought his talent to the stage and says that his audience are transported to a "sweet delirium" in his presence. I loved his soulful voice alongside the brilliant Days Order band. Commencing with covers of more well known songs in the early evening, the bands then turn up the tempo and get more creative with their expressions. By the late night, resident DJ Fabrice takes to the decks and we dance the night away to vibrant club music. 48

SUMMER Even in the dark of the night, her inner sparkle shone brightly. In reference to where I mentioned earlier about those few rare incredible souls in the world, Summer is also one of those individuals. She brought a smile to me and made me feel a huge warmth being around her incredible mind. You may remember our features with her Alchemia band in a few previous issues, she is now taking her career solo and fighting through the strands of negativity to bring a peaceful light to as many people as she can. I was completely humbled that Summer was nervous for me having the very first hearing of her new track 'Echoes Of The Heart' and hearing my feedback. I listened intently, closed my eyes and felt the music. Her voice, sublime as ever whilst the track too carries you away into the clouds. The new electronic lounge project from Summer & Phil M is really something to look out for with eager ears, it's exactly the kind of music I love and shares a message which the world really needs right now. Where there are a lot of uncertainties, let us just be still and stop trying so hard, just ride the current of life's own flow allowing it to take us where we must go. And I sincerely hope that Summer, whilst you read this, you feel the love and remember to not let any one get you down - for those who are not able to say pleasant words, are simply blind to your beautiful heart. SHEHZAD K One final meeting with an Audiation favourite, we interviewed Shehzad K in our second edition in 2014. He had just won the Ministry Of Sound Mauritius DJ competition and since then, he's carried on progressing in the music scene with gigs across the island as well as some abroad. He's also dabbled in production work, his recent 'Freakin' Summertime' track with Micromoon & Thallie Ann Seenyen is gaining a good reception. We got to chat a lot about the industry, even still today it is difficult to pull in a decent crowd and not succumb to commmercial conformities. Shehzad K is keeping it real with his love for electronic music and working hard to build his name whilst also building the certain standards that all creative individuals need in order to be respected. Sometimes promoters and 49
organisers try and make things work which are a bit off-course, it's about making the right judgements of which opportunities are worth taking and which won't really let you be you. It's a tough biz, but Shehzad K is learning as he goes, and he's doing very well at being different, sticking to his ethics and relishing every moment. BOLLYWOOD India influences the island greatly having descending roots from the country, so it is no surprise that it plays a huge part in the entertainments industry also. The one thing you pick up is that they love drama. The majority of music videos will consist of large choreographed dancing groups counterbalanced by the male and female leads swooning around each other in seductive flowing movements. Zoom TV was the predominant music channel there and was pretty cool with different sections of interest. This time I found that the Asian styles have been modernised with mixes of EDM seeping through, some good and some bad. One of my favourites is Arijit Singh Nashe Si Chadh Gaya. Wherever you are in Mauritius, there is always some sort of hum around - be it the chattering of locals, sounds of the various creatures or the ocean waves. I also picked up on the fact that Ed Sheeran's 'Shape Of You' is the hot track of the moment, many times I found myself amongst friends crooning (terribly) to this song. It's just one of those tracks with a great public appeal and fun tone. I'm really enjoying the remix by Major Lazer featuring Nyla & Kranium right now. I soaked up the island like a sponge. The easy-going pace, the 'c'est la vie' way of thinking, the diverse culture and sounds, the beautiful surroundings... Un paradis!
Bisous.
