Dax & Atragun The US production duo are doing well to climb in the industry. Their music has entered the Beatport top 100 on three occasions and they've also received support from Sam Allan, DJ Xquizit, Myk Bee, Monovere and Aimmoon. You may remember our previous chat with Atragun, this time Dax tells us about their work together. Please tell us about yourselves Funny, Andrew and I started under a tree at Albright College where we were both students. I was busy studying guitar/songwriting and video game/background music when I met Andrew. Andrew had been producing for a while and took me under his mentorship to teach me the ins and outs of production. I also made a friendship I wouldn't trade for the world. I remember our first track was titled 'Albright Anthem' and we got good and bad criticism but, most importantly, people telling us to keep going and giving us their honest opinion helped us push ourselves in production.

Atragun, we understand that you came to music at age 6 through piano lessons & classical music is there still a love for classical music influencing your electro music? I still love classical music and I still play a bit of it. I always look to put different influences into our music when it comes to different instruments and as well experimenting with different sounds. Dax, how did you get into music? I started playing guitar at 9 and moved on to other instruments like bass and piano. I got into electronic music around 17 when I was mesmerized by the melodies that Deadmau5 has produced. The reason I identified with Deadmau5 is that even through the commercialization of electronic music he stayed true to his art. The one song I would recommend when facing writer's block is 'I Remember'.

I got my first synthesizer because of Deadmau5. I would not have We also played our first show at a been able to produce one lick of small club in Reading, PA called music if it wasn't for Deadmau5 and Reverb and turned out to be our the music he created. am so happy to see what goes through his mind when he produces his songs in that massive studio. What does music mean to both of you? Dax: Music is the main reason I decide to get up in the morning. I would not be anywhere really without music.

Honestly, when it comes to music we are so happy that even one person has taken the time to listen to our music. It was literally nuts when we went on Soundcloud and saw 36,000 people have listened to our music and as well 4 of our remixes hit the Beatport top 100 for releases. Having people like Monoverse, Dj Xquzit, David Thullin, Myk Bee and Ozzy XPM like and support our music is also another bit of a push that keeps us going

Atragun: I loved music ever since I followed the emergence of trance as well as hearing the nostalgic When I or Andrew listen to our presence of Daft Punk's music we realize that it's our sound 'Discovery'. and it does have a piece of us in the songs we make. The advice I would have to any aspiring musician is to make sure you keep your mind in the right place when venturing into the music industry. Always look for mentors and never be opposed to learning something new. Also when it comes to any shows, the best advice for any artist is to get everything on paper and know what you're getting into. Most importantly take things with a grain of salt and don't be afraid to put a value on yourself. Also, do not follow trends, be unique and make sure that your sound reflects you. 17

Ki pe dir? (What’s Up) Hope you are all doing well. I am experiencing a wonderful life journey and music is helping me a lot. In the first place it is merely silence which enables me to listen to myself and what surrounds me. This exercise has revealed (and it goes on) a lot about my perception of life as well as my relationship with God. It helped me listen to the music of life. Our life is a well-written score with all the tempos, dynamics and every part that makes it a masterpiece which is better understood in silence. Throughout this new experience, the need for music is omnipresent which my soul and body are relishing. What is enjoyed most of the time is instrumental music; YouTube is full of these compilations ranging from piano, guitar jazzy style, bossa nova or simply nature sounds. My work screen, already fitted with loudspeakers, is a treat as it sounds like cafÊ background music. Now getting in my office is more like entering a spa. The guys are teasing about it but in the end they finally like it, saying it has improved their day at work. With essential oil diffused and background music on, it is much a comfy zone to get in without any stress and most important of all (benefits to the company) the work is done so easily. I look forward to spending more time at the office now, enjoying this new atmosphere. Sey enn kou. (Give it a try)

from Reverend Richard Coles sharing fond memories of visiting Heaven, the first ever gay superclub in the UK, in his youth. Reverend Richard Coles was a part of pop group The Communards releasing hits including 'Don't Leave Me This Way' and 'Never Can Say Goodbye'. What was interesting to hear is that the same acceptance he felt all those years ago is still being felt there to this day.

Pop, Pride and Prejudice After homosexuality was legalised 50 years ago, this is the story of how it was pop music that won the battle for hearts and minds, and made it OK to be gay. While politicians and protestors focused on legal reform, another struggle was going on – the battle for hearts and minds. The fight to win mainstream status for queer culture was waged, and won, by a group of pioneers who used popular music as the stage for a revolution. Put simply: it was pop music that made it OK to be gay. Channel 4 marks this momentous anniversary with the story of the fearless & flamboyant artists– from global icons to hidden 28

heroes – who used pop music as gay culture’s Trojan Horse, seducing us all with a soundtrack to die for. I love this programme, it really tells the journey of gay culture beautifully through music over the decades. And it's amazing to see how music did and still does have such a huge positive impact to many people. In this current age, it's hard to picture the creative world being tarnished for associations with gay people. But only in a creative stance were people able to express themselves and fight back with a strong force. Because passion without substance can only go so far. Dusty Springfield's hidden identity is spoken of, subtle references were caught by those who felt the same explaining that she yearned to share her true self. David Bowie iconically "startled people" as he says, enjoying rebelling and showcasing his colourful persona. Gospel came onto the scene too with a soulful sense of empowerment as shown in Sylvester's 'You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)'. With public liberation rising, the law struck down hard, but this only made people stand up for themselves more which reflected in the music too with Tom Robinson's 'Glad To Be Gay'. Boy George, another legendary act who was not afraid to be different, stated his desire to help make more people "tolerant" to

different ways of living. Music and attitudes became more bold and brave, ignoring any sense of taboo discussion as shown in Frankie Goes to Hollywood's 'Relax'. Channel 4's own commissioning editor at the time, Alan Fountain, gave the camera to the LGBT+ community allowing them to reveal more of their world. Gay people were here to say, out loud and proud.

I was intrigued to find out that Channel 4 has an LGBT+ group as a part of the company to liaise with staff and develop in the public.

'Lessons From My Baba' by Tayfun is a lovely momento to his father with honest words and beautiful accompanying music. I especially like the light piano notes and then the Turkish strings to finish off. Capturing the bond between both father and son, Tayfun pays homage to Fathers Day by releasing the visuals for his latest single ‘Lessons From My Baba’ via Link Up TV. Delivering an ode to his Father, Tayfun constructs a personal and honest reflection of how his father made him the man who he is today. Embracing his roots, not only through the relationship between himself and his father, he goes back to his motherland Turkey to film the stunning scenic backdrop to the video. His culture and heritage play a poignant role in his music and both ‘Lessons From My Baba’ and his debut single ‘Figo’ are shining examples of that. SLVNG MAJOR returns on the production as he infuses a piano-laced instrumental with a heavy beat that accommodates the rich sounds of the Saz guitar. ‘Lessons From My Baba’ acts as the foreground of where both western and eastern musical influences merge together and create a hybrid that plays on different cultural elements. 2017 has facilitated great growth for Tayfun, having dropped his debut ‘Figo’ two months ago it has cultivated over 150,000 views. ‘Lessons From My Baba’ delves into a more personal follow-up and demonstrates his strengths both as a songwriter and stylistically as a rapper. "The song is about the lessons that I learnt from my father growing up. It's about his Success, his regrets and his hopes for the family legacy.” www.soundcloud.com/iamtayfun 34

Songs of the Summer This summer is packing Latino vibes and powerful lyrics in the latest music. Here are the best songs this summer to keep yourself happy and dancing while soaking up the rays. Selena Gomez – Bad Liar This song reminds me of the theme song to a long walk, or a scene in a movie when the character is contemplating life by taking a drive somewhere. It is so simple but so addictive of a song, especially when she howls like a wolf in the pre-chorus. Definitely perfect for a chill summer moment. Shawn Mendes – There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back Shawn Mendes KEEPS. DELIVERING. HITS! It’s insane! This song starts mellow but slowly builds to where you can’t keep still any more. Miley Cyrus – Malibu I mean c’mon, of course this song is perfect for a road trip this summer. Cyrus said she wrote the song when she was driving down Pacific Coast Highway with Liam Hemsworth and was just taking in the moment. That is a life lesson for us all, just look up from your phones, stop worrying and enjoy the moment. The sky is always blue in Malibu. Pitbull & J Balvin ft. Camila Cabello – Hey Ma This song is just fun. It was in the recent installment of Fate and the Furious, Post Malone ft. Quavo – Congratulations This song goes out to all the graduates and anybody celebrating something this summer! The lyric “work so hard forgot how to vacation” definitely reigns true, especially in American culture. So it is always a working professional’s childhood nostalgia to treat the summer months like it is summer vacation. Let Post Malone help motivate us all to do that. 35

Liam Payne ft. Quavo – Strip That Down The second song featuring Quavo makes the Songs of the Summer list with Liam Payne’s ‘Strip That Down.’ Even though his lyric “used to be on 1D now I’m out free” probably made many fans sad, this is still a fun hip hop song to dance the night away with one coke and Bacardi. Kendrick Lamar – HUMBLE. I WANT TO SEE SOME STRETCH MARKS! This song keeps it real with an energetic beat. Kendrick never fails to deliver lyrics catered to society’s issues and real-world problems, and he definitely inspires us all to cut the bulls*** and be real in this song. Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee ft. Justin Bieber – Despacito Remix And last but not least, the song everyone is listening to and loving, the Despacito Remix. Don’t get me wrong, the original Despacito was great, but Justin Bieber added a certain sex factor with him whispering “Despacito” at the beginning of each chorus. Keeps us coming back everytime!

Sarah's Thoughts

The bass is intoxicating in 'Say Yes' by ALBT along with a fiesty vocal cUt. Next to drop on OneFold DGTL is this stellar new release from label favourite ALBT. Almost a year on from the full throttle sounds of 'Tricks and Trinkets', the producing talent's back with another summer smash, 'Say Yes'. The original mix bursts to life with excitable, fever-pitch beats, steamrolling its way into dancefloor territory with racing grooves and enormous vocals. Adding drama with a lulled intermission and low, powerful bass notes, ALBT quickly cranks the tempo back up for an all round scorching, carnival sound. Adding to the package, Killed Kassette blurs the original giving us a velvety, late-night mover, while Luke Davidson gives the track a tougher edge with harder beats and buzzing synths - rounding off this impressive EP, three unique, but club-ready takes on one incredible sound. www.onefolddigital.com 37

Simply a great quality trancer. We all remember ‘Greece 2000’ of course, but who would have thought that 20 years from it’s original release on Massive Drive, founder member Erik de Koning would still be producing beautiful, uplifting melodic trance music like ‘Sirens of the Sea’? Powered by a #138 kick, offbeat bass & crisp percussion, ‘Sirens’ lands it’s first punch with a growling arpeggiator sequence laid out in the first third. The true beauty of a Three Drives record though reveals itself at the break, and what a heart-warming melody it is. A truly Dutch pure trance record. www.puretrance.com

'Sky High E.P' by Illumina comprises of dark and hard-hitting sounds. The EP opens with 'Sky High' which is a no nonsense affair. Packed with bags of festival energy, a big room melody and guaranteed to cause maximum damage in any scene. Essential stuff. On the flip, 'Nebula' finishes things off nicely thanks to its plucky groove, lush, warm breakdown and truly inspirational drop. Maximum hands in the air action is assured thanks to this epic number. Andorfina (Solis & Sean Truby pres. S&ST Remix) by Emanuele Braveri & Amo R is an awesome atmoshpheric trancer! As you'd expect, Solis & Sean Truby deliver the goods in only the way they know how. Expert precision from the off, the duo serves up a banging alternative to the original with its peak time energy and classic nuances through their mix. InfraProgressive Summer Sampler Volume Five includes upbeat and thought-provoking music. First up, Arggic opens the latest instalment with the lush sounds of 'Winter', which packs a real punch thanks to its on point production, warm energy and a breathtaking breakdown. Next up, Triart continue that momentum of this latest EP with the infectious 'White Silence'. The track delivers a lush hit of warm vibes, big room energy and breakdown that will certainly turn heads. Huge stuff. Rounding out the EP, a name that Infrasonic fans will know and love is Kukuzenko. The rising star continues to go from strength to strength and his latest offering 'Biomechanica' will certainly not disappoint. Thanks to its laid back, warm vibe and feel good energy. www.infrasonicrecordings.com

'Let the Music Play' by Clement Marfo is celebration of music. This is a masterpiece of a song with joy filling each melody and vocal. The dynamic contrasts give a great effect. Mark Baigent & Element Z deliver a bubbly dance/pop remix whilst Nathan C gives it a darker club/house edit. 'Let the Music Play' is the new single from universal Hip Hop recording artist, Clement Marfo. Following the success of 'Breath of Fresh Air' which featured heavily on sports television, highlights include coverage on the BBC FA Cup Final: Arsenal v Chelsea, Sky Sports F1 Grand Prix to MotoGP. Let the Music Play features remixes from heavyweight club producers Marc Baigent & Element Z and Capital FM DJ Darren C. “Let the Music Play is one of my most treasured gems. A bitter sweet symphony. I wrote this during the recovery of losing a great friend and whilst sitting in darkness, searching for answers, I decided to turn my pain into art. 'Let the Music Play' in other words: to let go, let it be, let the river flow, let the music play." Clement Marfo

'Outer Space' by Kaneis featuring Novel has a gorgeous voice and fun melody. With 6 edits, it is really a tough but fun job to try and choose a favourite! Black Site's Big Room edit has a great energy to it, Rolo Green's synthpop-esque edit is really cool, love Omair Mirza's sexy club edit and the original track holds a rhythmic beat. Are you ready to get lifted to the stars? On July 17, 2017, OHM Music will proudly present a journey of ethereal insanity with Kaneis - “Outer Space” featuring Novel; a 6 track dance music extravaganza featuring a debut original from the cryptic Kaneis, as well as a slew of delectable remixes that span the dance music gamut from artists that have been setting the production bar incredibly high including OHM Music label boss Omair Mirza, Black Site, David Thulin, Rolo Green, and Lycii & Declan James. But who is Kaneis? In Ancient Greek, Kaneis translates to “nobody”. A moniker tantalizingly appropriate for an artist who seems to have dropped down from the outer reaches of the universe over night with a history and identity that remains elusive and obscure. But, we all love a good mystery, right? With Kaneis, the road to discovering his true identity begins right now! Kicking off the debut release, Kaneis bids us to join him on a progressive planetary expedition of sound with the powerful and haunting voice of Novel leading the way. From first listen, Kaneis steps out to announce his arrival with the future of dance locked down deep within him. The reverberating bassline finds its home among a melody full of gorgeous piano riffs, intensified builds, and detailed sound bytes that drop down from the heavens reflecting an auditory vision of alienistic water droplets sprinkling down from an origin unknown. 42

First up on remix duties OHM Music’s Omair Mirza flips the script with an extended version that blasts off straight out of the gate. This version is made for peak hour insanity with the blended essence of trance and big room dripping from every beat and beautiful crescendo. This one is made for the main stage as the resounding thump of the drum sends listeners into a tailspin of dance euphoria. Black Site answers back with gritty synths, layered with enough power to get those hands reaching to the heavens. With creative twists and turns just as you find your sweet spot within the rhythm, Black Site prepares your body for a glorious release of energy driven mayhem. Hitting the midpoint of the remix collection, OHM Music’s David Thulin reigns us in with some seriously chill vibes, paying homage to the beauty of dance music with a groovy house-centric flavor, throwing in a sexy saxophone for good measure. Fresh off of his collaborative release with Euphoric Nation on “Destiny”, this remix is David Thulin’s expression of the diverse creative style that he continues to nurture with every new release. Jumping deep down into the depths of progressive house, Rolo Green serves up a musical dish with flutters of suspended builds simmering over a bold bassline. This is a track that will lift you off of the ground, sending you into a magical orbit that you are not going to want to come down from. Rounding out the “Outer Space” remixes, Lycii & Declan James join forces on a collaborative firestorm that will send goose bumps from the top of your head to the tip of your toes. Beginning with a melodic trance build suddenly we are met with a 180 flip as the melody dives head first into a synth soaked bass progression, holding strong with next level layers and power for an extended version that may just be the track that changes the dance music game as we know it. OHM Music is fast becoming the go-to label for musical delicacies resounding with unique character and next level production quality and sound. With the emergence of Kaneis, OHM Music solidifies itself as an unstoppable force among the vast array of premier dance music labels with many more outstanding releases from both established and up and coming artists alike, poised and ready to turn up the volume and set a new pace for the evolution of electronic dance music. Stay locked in with OHM Music, as the identity of Kaneis will soon be revealed! www.thisisohmmusic.com

A beautifully ornate story is painted through MNK & aL's 'Sorry'. Like a river flowing through the valley, the gentle tempo and thought-provoking atmosphere allows the mind to free itself. A stunning piano melody unfolds accompanied by a vivid voice. "We get on really well, in terms of music we understand each other without words." MNK explains that the musical process with aL commenced from a chance meeting. "One evening we came to think it was time we did something simple - simple music that touches the listeners. We aimed at something real and true and we made it." Artwork: Her hands clasp together, her soul pleading for forgiveness. Her mind lost in the emotive affair. www.awjrecordings.com

An intense tech vibe takes over with Lex & Wood's 'Like This EP'. There's a clean-cut skill on production with a minimal style and strong precision. Canadian duo Lex & Wood drop their ‘Like This EP’ as the debut release on new label Stashed Music, one that immediately sets the musical tone for this exciting new imprint. Stashed Music is a new label founded by prolific electronic artist DJ S.K.T, who has teamed up with a number of like-minded childhood and music industry friends, each of whom brings their own unique experiences, knowledge and passion to the table. Stashed Music’s remit is to unearth raw new talent as well champion established producers: talent that is not afraid to push the boundaries of modern house music. The label’s debut release is ‘Like This EP’ from Lex & Wood: a three-track collection of sublimely produced, visceral dancefloor cuts. Montreal duo Alessandro and Benjamin AKA Lex & Wood are leading the charge of city’s next generation of house producers. The rising stars have already released on the likes of Armada Subjekt, Eton Messy and Great Stuff Recordings, but have arguably saved their best for Stashed. All three cuts on the ‘Like This EP’ feature deep, rich basslines, sinewy drums and hypnotic hooks that set them well above the usual tech house fare. Keep them Stashed. www.soundcloud.com/stashedmusic 45

MAURITIUS

Since 3 years we organise fundraisers to help feed families. This year we want to leverage social media to raise funds via a crowd funding campaign to help feed 1,000 families."
