Hi Guys & Dolls... The gorgeous Natalie INDYA West is on our cover in a classy, yet raunchy pose. The back cover pairs to this with a little black lace. We're sharing smiles this month with the Moonfruit discount code and by supporting a great project from singer Leanne Louise, September Sofa Sessions. My current favourite track? J. Balvin & Willy William - Mi Gente. In this issue I get chatting with glam rock band INDYA who are proud acts alongside Republica later this year. INDYA discusses her inspiration coming from her darkest days, maybe it will inspire a few of you readers too. Our friends at Right Chord Music have some important updates which utilizes new developments in technology to help rising musicians. David takes us through the art of learning, explaining that should open our minds and not remain with a select group of topics. In fact, a friend refers this idea of having many skills as being like a human Swiss army knife! Our friends at Right Chord Music are always developing how they help independent talent. Their aim has always been to support the industry with new strategies without having to rely on "the man". I love their success in rebellion. Two new developments are that they've switched their Lost On Radio podcast to regular Spotify playlists and their RCMHangout Festival is making its way to Facebook Live. --Lost On Radio began as a Podcast back in 2011. Our aim was to showcase incredible new artists that were being overlooked by radio, or pushed to the late night fringes. The Lost On Playlist will continue to champion the best new, undiscovered and under appreciated music in our inbox. Curated by the RCM editorial team it’s a democracy, if we love it, we playlist it. No radio pluggers or PRs required. --Back in 2013 frustrated with bad promoters and bad live music experiences, we decided to create a new live music platform. The RCMHangout Sessions and ultimately The RCMHangout Festival were born. Our festival became one of the first online only music festivals using Google+ Hangouts On Air. Bands and artists played live from their homes to the world via the RCM blog. This summer we want to revisit the concept, this time harnessing the power of Facebook Live we’ll stream incredible new and undiscovered music directly into your news feed. Taking place over on the 18th-20th August we will invite bands and artists to take over the RCM Facebook page and broadcast live to the world. --www.rightchordmusic.co.uk/category/lostonradio www.facebook.com/RightChordMusic 12

ART OF LEARNING

If you just choose to learn a particular skill, what you are good at is limited only to that of which you have learnt. But if you learn how to learn and get good at it, the possibilities are endless. Not only could you excel in any skill and perform well at any given task, but you could tackle any circumstance life throws at you! By learning to not only open your mind but your heart as well, you would be able to connect with others more easily and your relationships would grow much stronger. By studying the art of learning, your outlook on life would also be opened to one of much beauty, possibility, and positivity.

WINDY CITY SMOKEOUT: Chicago’s hottest country and barbeque festival. It is in a huge parking lot on the middle of downtown Chicago, and has a load of restaurant vendors serving their best barbeque and beer. There were two stages, and in between were bags games, picnic tables and cut-outs to take a picture behind. The coolest thing was that the parking lot was right next to the Chicago River, so it was a picture-perfect spot and we saw a bunch of people on a kayak tour. What a summer night! How this feature works: Each day will have notes on one of the headliners and one specific artist to keep an eye on in the future.

FRIDAY HEADLINER: JAKE OWEN

I mean a SMOKIN’ hot country boy who performs barefoot and covers Beyoncé’s “Crazy in Love,” what more could you expect? You might remember him having shoulder-length hair from his earlier years, but post-divorce he chopped it off, looks amazing and sings even better. Honestly, I couldn’t handle how great he was and had to leave the crowd to stuff my face with some ribs as some spontaneous emotional eating adventure. The one song that got everyone hyped was “Anywhere with You,” which has a good drop in the beginning of the chorus which builds up to the end. TO LOOK OUT FOR: MICHAEL TYLER I did not know this guy before the festival, but his music is great. He has the swooped Justin Bieber hair that throws it back to the early 2000’s. Most of his music was released this year, but he is already starring in showcases and was considered the “headliner” at the new artist stage. 16

SATURDAY HEADLINER: JANA KRAMER Yes, the Jana Kramer from the television show One Tree Hill. She was one of the only women at the entire festival, Jana Kramer knew how to command a crowd through personal interaction. She was constantly waving to people, talking to people and taking pictures with people while performing. If she wanted everyone to clap, she called out every single person that wasn’t to join her. Also, what a perfect woman! She was fit, fun and flirty. Her most recognizable song is “I Got the Boy” and “Why Ya Wanna,” both slow, powerful ballads. TO LOOK OUT FOR: RUSSELL DICKERSON This guy is definitely making the come-up, as he recently sang his song “Yours” on The Bachelorette here in the US. He performed in a Chicago Bulls jersey, which was a crowd favorite, and is a genuinely nice guy.

SUNDAY HEADLINER: LEE BRICE In my opinion, this guy has the most emotion-driven lyrics in country music. With hits like “I Don’t Dance,” “Love Like Crazy,” and “Hard to Love,” from a lyric point of view, I can’t see a reason why anyone wouldn’t like his music. TO LOOK OUT FOR: RYAN HURD Mostly known as Maren Morris’ new fiancé, Ryan Hurd is an up-andcoming country music artist, with Morris staring in a couple of his music videos. I believe he will be a name people will be able to recognize within the next year.

#IndustryBuzz Currently watching a Facebook Live stream with the UK3 lads and Charles Jay. It's really fun to see their bubbly energy and jamming session. The coolest thing is watching their next song come together, they're vibing, writing down lyrics etc. Now, precisely 32 minutes in, silence in the studio please because it's time to record! If you watched it, then you know! It is another great garage medley, that's all I'll say for now! --The humble Ed Sheeran is splashed across the media left, right and center this month for several reasons: Music, those lively lyrics on top of tuneful guitar melodies are just so appealing. TV, it looks like he's really enjoying his cameo role in Game Of Thrones which is the talk of the world right now. This also brought on many disputes, but to be honest, I think the thing we should all be talking about is the fact that he'll be jamming with Lisa on The Simpsons how cool! Songwriting, the list of artists he's written for is seemingly endless with the latest being for Rita Ora's 'Your Song' and he's working with Boyzone for their comeback soon. Social dilemmas, he's been o n a n d o ff T w i t t e r m o r e t i m e s t h a n y o u ' v e accidentally taken a video instead of a photo. But can you blame him? He's just so nice, and he really doesn't deserve the nonsense from those ones who just want to annoy. Keep doing your thing Ed!

musically this year and what you have coming up?

She knows what she wants and she's not going to let anything get in her way. INDYA is a UK based Glam Rock band fronted by Natalie INDYA West. Her journey has not been easy, but proudly for her, from struggles she's now fighting strong with her debut EP and several amazing gigs coming up. The 'Strip Me Down' album is pure sexy FILTH! The powerful energies enthral you whilst a fiery attitude is at the very core. The title track is just so damn hot with Natalie's vocal depths really shining. 'I cast a spell' has a touch of Country, moving onto a wickedly bitter chorus. I love 'Not A Line' with a seductive air that grips you. Each track gives you a wild need and a sense of empowerment. Natalie unleashes her spirit with us in this interview.

This year I have been extremely busy. For a start, I wrote & recorded an EP called "Strip Me Down" which can be purchased on iTunes & other major online stores. I had quite a few of my songs played constantly on Kerrang! Radio, Total Rock & Team Rock Radio amongst 400 other Rock stations worldwide! So it has been very successful so far. I have also started writing a new EP called "Insane Love" which has had huge success so far and has been premiered on Kerrang! Radio. I've had a lot of online & magazine press. One of which in Terroriser Magazine which is out now in WHSmith Issue 283. One of my records made it onto their compilation Rock CDs, free with the magazine. I've also done a lot of gigging. Some huge events which I've performed at was Noel Gallagher's aftershow party at O2 Liverpool, Glastonbudget Music festival, Camden Rocks Presents and I've just landed an amazing gig supporting Republica! It's the 4th Nov this year - so very excited!! In the meantime, I am gigging every month, twice a month. Take a look on my events page on my fan page INDYA as there's too much to name!! What inspires you creatively and mindfully to get out there and live your dreams? What inspires me to get out there and live my dream is depression. The fact is that 5 years ago I was on a downward

spiral to the depths of perdition. It was like I was falling deeper and deeper into an underworld of anguish & affliction. There was absolutely nobody there to help me. Nobody realised the dangerous predicament I had fallen into, and instead I was disfavoured and disliked because of my behaviour. I was abandoned by practically everyone, I lost friends, loved ones & family members through this. And, it was the worst time of my life. I challenged awful thoughts, mental behaviour & I turned to drugs. I was alone & sad in a dark reclusive bubble. I wasted so much time battling myself, years infact. I was nasty to people, and years were spent in regret & misery.

pathetic" ... It really didn't stop me though. If anything, it made me want to succeed even more! I've had producers use me for my money... overturning my bank account, not giving a damn about my project, just quick to take my money and then not giving me my finished product until a year on... and then still unfinished & homespun. So I have had my fair share of record producers & have not trusted any of them except this one I'm working with now who is amazing!! He deserves a massive credit Dave Needham of Darkhorse recording studios in Epsom. He's professional, fair, skilled & gives 100% into all my projects. Its nice to finally have someone that delivers and is committed to making my songs great! So I will not be using any other producer now my loyalty is with Dave and also with Dan Baune, another fantastic rock producer who is also extremely nice. I guess this may happen to a lot of artists? And you have to learn the hard way which is what happened to me! There's no changing this in the industry I'm afraid to say, as a snake is dressed up like a wolf in sheep's clothing, you never see it coming!

So, my point is when I sought help & reality became the only path, I knew I realised what I needed to do. Just live, be myself & spend the rest of my life how I want. For me, that was music & writing songs & performing. There is nothing else that can take that place. So this is what i am currently doing.... getting on with it, keeping my head down and working as a Rock Artist which is my only destiny in this life that I'm lucky enough to have granted to me after all my terrible mistakes, Your clothing & make-up style is really cool and different, where do you get As a female artist, what challenges your influences & inspiration for your have you faced, and how have you style? overcome them? Or what challenges do you still face, and what would you Awwww thank you! I have always had want changed in the industry? the same style. I'm kind of Glam Rock with my look. I have always shopped at In the music industry I have met quite Dolls Kill boutique online, H&M, Apricot a few snakes of the grass. People who & charity shops. Sometimes I'm a bit have used me, broke me and zapped me punky, others glam goth. I was inspired of my energy. For example, I was told by Madonna first off. Then I got inspired by a producer that I was "Delusional and by icons like Jodie Marsh. I love what 22

When I got 4 November: Republica, Islington the gig I was overwrought with passion. Assembly Hall I just wanted to tell everybody but I wasn't allowed to straight away. So, www.facebook.com/IndyaOfficial keeping something in like this and www.musicglue.com/indya keeping a secret totally destroyed me www.ticketor.com/indyaofficial mentally. I am raving now about this gig, it's the biggest thing I have done so far & I'm very proud of myself actually. To look back over my shoulder to those 5 years ago when I was a nobody... and now seeing how far I've come and how hard I have worked. I kind of feel like I deserve this really. I am patting myself 25

#SMILE: We're backing Leanne Louise's September Sofa Sessions. Each weekend of September she'll sing with wonderful musicians on a lucky fan's sofa! A beautiful way to share love and good music.

Hey everyone :) Ok so recently I had an idea and since telling everyone we've had lots of interest and therefore I've decided to go ahead with the 'September Sofa Sessions'! This crowdfunding is by no means compulsory, you don't have to donate in order to be part of it and vice versa, you don't have to be a part of it to donate. Every single donation will be greatly appreciated and will help us so so much to make sure neither myself or the musicians have to worry about travel costs and expenses. I'm extremely nervous but very excited about this and thank you all deeply for always supporting me on my musical journey. It means more than you could ever imagine! I will be posting all details on how to get involved over on my music page. Lots of love, Leanne x Support project: www.crowdfunder.co.uk/september-sofa-sessions Keep up to date with Leanne Louise: www.facebook.com/ leannelouisemusic And, keep smiling :) 26

Public Enemies: Jay Z vs Kanye The battle between two of the biggest music moguls comes under scrutiny in this one-off documentary. Produced by ACME Films, the show aired on Channel 4 and is now available to watch on All 4. “Arguably two of the coolest and most influential artists in the world, their incredible life stories offer a fascinating new twist on the American dream. These are two mega-personalities whose success and rivalry has captured the public’s imagination.” Rob Coldstream, Commissioning Editor, Special Factual “In the process of building their empires Jay-Z and Kanye have provided a spine tingling soundtrack for a generation. Their story goes beyond their music and has opened up discussions on everything from class barriers to mental health.” Nico Wasserman, Director Together they’ve captivated audiences the world over, transcending their hiphop roots to leave their mark on business, fashion and even politics. Both phenomenally successful they are married to two of the world’s most famous women. But behind their partnership lies an epic rivalry. With home videos, unseen footage and exclusive interviews with the people who know them best, Channel 4 uncovers the true story behind Jay-Z and Kanye West’s rise to success and how their hopes and ambitions led them to falling out. It’s a tale of creativity versus commerce, inner-city deprivation versus suburban aspiration, of right versus left. And it reveals an even bigger story of how race, wealth and celebrity are shaping modern America. www.channel4.com/programmes/public-enemies-jay-z-vs-kanye Picture Publicist: Jamie Fry | Photographer: Rex

Country Music Principal photography has commenced on the comedy drama which is directed by Tom Harper and scripted by Nicole Taylor. The film is developed by Fable Pictures together with Film 4, BFI and Creative Scotland. It is produced by Faye Ward with Eugenio Perez. The cast includes the likes of Julie Walters, Jessie Buckley, Sophie Okonedo and James Harkness. “Nicole has written the most wonderful script: hugely entertaining, sharp, funny and with something to say about the way we live today. I am thrilled to be bringing it to life with such an exceptional team of people.” Tom Harper “Nicole Taylor has written a cracking script, full of energy and charm. Her witty dialogue will have you in stitches but at its heart, this is a moving, universal story about roots and dreams. Jessie Buckley is a revelation in the lead role and I can’t wait for audiences to hear her sing." Faye Ward Rose-Lynn Harlan (Jessie Buckley) is bursting with raw talent, charisma and cheek. Fresh out of jail and with two young kids, all she wants is to get out of Glasgow and make it as a country singer. Her mum Marion (Julie Walters) has had a bellyful of Rose-Lynn’s Nashville nonsense. Forced to take responsibility, Rose-Lynn gets a cleaning job, only to find an unlikely champion in the middle-class lady of the house (Sophie Okonedo). A comedy drama about mothers and daughters, dreams and reality, and three chords and the truth. The film showcases country music from two continents. Rose-Lynn’s band is led by UK folk royalty Neill McColl, and features Scottish music legends, and founders of The Transatlantic Sessions, Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham. “Whispering” Bob Harris, whose BBC Radio 2 show has made him an ambassador for country music in the UK for more than 40 years, will also appear in the film. Alongside an exciting selection of classic and modern country music, the soundtrack features an original song written by platinum-selling singer songwriter Caitlyn Smith, Oscar®-winning actress Mary Steenburgen and Kate York. 31

'Hyper!' by Abstract Vision has a dark electro vibe breaking into a great deep and melodic middle-section. After the runaway success stories of 'Comeback!' and 'Bombshell', which picked up support from just about every major player, Abstract Vision continues his relentless production regime and delivers his latest single 'Hyper!'. The track is another killer outing on the Interstate imprint, packed with bags of tech vibes, infused with that clinical production style we've come to expect from any Abstract Vision record. Taking no prisoners thanks to its big room melody, euphoric breakdown and hands in the air drop. www.infrasonicrecordings.com 36

Throwback in 2009, my pal Feizal shared with me three

tracks: When I fall, Breaking Day & Frank Sinatra Is Dead. A Riot In Heaven, I thought it was sort of American or British rock band. My surprise to hear that they are actually Mauritians #jawdropping. In those times the group was the first on my playlist and would gladly kickoff the day with 'Breaking Day' and when I needed some peps 'When I Fall' did the thing. Time flew so rapidly and now we are almost ten years from my first listening. I recently came across a post from the group, who were celebrating the tenth anniversary of their album 'Weekend on Proxima'. My first move was to purchase the album; I was so excited as memories gushed and filled me with so much joy. I have been listening for almost a week now. Even my 3 y.o daughter appreciated the tracks "Their music is too good Papa". Rock genes have been transferred :). A Riot in Heaven - I am glad listening to them after these years as it confirms lot of facts: 1. Mauritius truly got talents, as this album is a masterpiece. 2. I love it as it is a blend of my musical influences: Pink Floyd, Creed, Alterbridge, Mogwai and God is an Astronaut. Their sound is awesome. 3. The lead has a perfect voice for rock and gave me thrills, a perfect pitch and colour getting close to Scott Stapp early Creed records (Listen to When I Fall with these big guitar sounds plus check their video.) The 'Iced Tea EP' by Lee Pearce is a delicious concoction. The title track has a chilled tone with a progressive beat, on the remix, Jey Kurmis adds a fresh bassy touch. 'Martini' brings a spirited mix of sounds whilst 'Long Island' has a smooth lounge style. Tech house mixologist Lee Pearce hits the clubs with yet another quality release on his very own FXNion Records. 'Iced Tea' is a refreshing mix of techy grooves and with an intoxicating slice of fresh beats. ‘Iced Tea’ is a bright, warm, rolling tech groove set to hold the most discerning floors over the coming months. Man of the moment Jey Kurmis comes in strong and drops a stomping, slightly wonky remix of ‘Iced Tea where hooky synth stabs, quirky vocal hits and a detuned, dysfunctional bassline combine to help build a stomping track that holds its own. This is a stand out remix worth the entrance money alone! ‘Long Island’ continues the theme and uses equal parts sub bass and lush pads with just the right percussive elements to stir the groove and go deep and deadly. Finally, ‘Martini’ has a more tribal, jazzier feel and is a track that’s better shaken not stirred. www.facebook.com/LeePearceDJ

'Modulation EP' by Tuff Culture is comprised of three tracks. The rough hard bassline is contrasted pleasingly with the soft vocal cut on first track 'Feels'. 'Glitch' is exactly as the title says, with chopped up clips and sounds creating a fun little track. Last, but not least, 'Movie Script' plays with the beat and atmosphere really well. Last spotted edifying the masses on Four40 last summer previously supported in DJ Magazine & Mixmag, Tuff Culture returns with three more unique blends. As with previous releases, his balance of shades, musicality and production dynamics is precision: "Feels" rolls with a tightlyplucked synth riff before pushing you deep into the warped-bass sludge, "Glitch"High energy bass driven produced to shut down clubs and festivals this year. "Movie Script" does a similar meltdown with a bass hook and more of a jacking 4x4 bassline chug, Each cut really bringing fresh influences together, Tuff Culture's got a sound like no other right now.

'Lost In Light' by Peter Santos is a classic trancer. Continuing to delve deeper and unearth those true trance gems, InfraRed once again comes up with the goods thanks to an essential debut from Peter Santos. Delivering his maiden stable release in the form of 'Lost In Light', Peter delivers an on point track that truly personifies the InfraRed sound. Everything from a slamming, rolling groove, epic ripping leads, a lush euphoric breakdown and a killer drop too. 'Lost In Light' is a big track and one that will easily find a spot in the hearts and minds of trance fans around the globe. www.infrasonicrecordings.com 43

I LOVE THE SLOW PROGRESSION OF THE TITLE TRACK MOVING INTO A BEAUTIFUL RHYTHMIC SECTION AND THEN IT BREAKING APART INTO A QUIRKY MELD. 'OMUR' TAKES A DARKER TONE WHILST 'DEFINE' GETS A LITTLE FUNKY. THE EP IS REALLY INTERESTING WITH ETHNIC INFLUENCES. WWW.MOONHARBOUR.COM

'Jack that Jack' by DJ S.K.T featuring Pepper Rose is duo of a fresh tracks to liven up any club night! Undoubtedly one of the current hottest talents on the UK club scene, a firm national radio favourite and in-demand remixer, DJ S.K.T keeps the bangers coming with his debut on DFTD, ‘Jack That Jack EP’. Coming straight out of the blocks with some up-tempo fire on the title track, S.K.T employs his signature grinding bassline scattered with drum-rolled breakdowns that build the sense of urgency steadily to a peak. Vocals from fellow Londoner Pepper Rose add another layer of attitude, making for moments of real palpable energy. B-side ‘Alright (Got Me Feeling)’ leans on some kicking drum patterns and a lingering vocal melody for a more emotive vibe, while maintaining that vital forward-moving S.K.T jack.

'Preach' by Todd Terry & DJ S.K.T is delightful, bright and soulful house track. With their second offering, Todd Terry & DJ S.K.T return to Armada. Made in collaboration with Jess Kondoors, ‘Preach’ comprises exceptionally strong vocals, marvelous grooves and an inspiring message that empowers us all. There’s no going wrong with music like this!

'Beta' by Daniel Wanrooy is a strong pump-up track which surrounds the more melodic middle section. Daniel Wanrooy’s latest release on our main imprint contains the perfect combination of firm, rhythmic beats and a beautiful mysterious break. Beta is another bang-up job by Daniel! www.blackholerecordings.com/music/albums/danielwanrooy-beta-extended-mix

I love 'Anxiety' by Diives. It's important that people understand mental health isn't just something to push aside, the lyrics of this track explain things really well. It's okay not to be okay. We all should talk. Don't be afraid. Don't be ashamed. A beautiful song. Anxiety is the debut single from Diives, an act with plenty to say and plenty of new ways to say it. Hailing from an area with little or no opportunities for the young people that live there, Anxiety is a reflection of Diives’s passion for expression and belief that music can bring hope and change. “People are finally talking about anxiety, depression and other mental health problems and this track was written to share some personal experiences on the subject. The song has a raging undercurrent because when anxiety takes control it is unbelievably frustrating! The line ‘When the night’s bleed into a long old year or so…’ was in relation to waking up one day and realising that a big chunk of life was missing because of anxiety. You can feel a lot of guilt for not making any positive moves when you’re feeling anxious, but people should feel good that they’re reaching out to people, getting the help they need and looking after themselves. All the other stuff can come later.” To define is to limit and Diives prefers to let the music do the talking. But if you want an idea of what to expect from Anxiety and other tracks due for release in 2017, think contemporary grime passing through angsty indie and occasionally landing in urban balladry. This is truly music set to change the urban landscape forever. www.diivesmusic.com 47
