Hi Guys & Dolls... Singer / songwriter Leanne Louise graces our cover this month. The heart pops out together with her distinctive look, and the words replicate the orientation of her logo. It feels old school yet fresh, as David puts it. This also is shown on the back cover with a dark textured red piece. We’ve launched the REWIND and SPOTLIGHT segments across our networks, to celebrate the old and new. Our Radio guide is now the Shows guide which include TV, radio, podcasts. There is a subtle theme of darkness throughout of anger, frustration, heartbreak and sadness. It is strange how the world feels emotions together in certain periods like this. But the amazing thing is that they all take that dark feeling and turn it into something motivational, finding their inner strength. In this issue, Sarah’s Thoughts are frustrated with the injustice all around, she shares 5 power music videos to tackle these issues. Rewind with a moment of love and spontaneity from Orson’s No Tomorrow. With her heart in two, she picks herself up and finds her spirit. Leanne Louise tells us all about ‘My Goodbye’ and how her career is progressing. Pa large / Don’t Give up, says Stv. Struggling to find positivity, rap music helps him to scream out the tensions. Roar! Chillout with a beautiful release from Blackboxx and a compelling Mija. On screen we check out developments on The Big Narstie sHow (W/T) from Channel 4 and hop to discover live shows from O2’s follow the rabbit campaign. We've got your events guide, show listings and music from Jason Heerah, Skallee & Wagz, Michael Push, Tayá, Lucky Charmes and Mon Frère.

5 POWERFUL MUSIC VIDEOS TO TACKLE PRESENT SOCIAL JUSTICE ISSUES I’ve had enough. Shootings, terrorism, brutality, hate, inequality, INJUSTICE. There is far too much in this world, and WE should all agree it needs to end. Yesterday. Working at a news station, I’ve seen horrific stories reported daily than I’ve ever noticed before. I used to hear my news through social media when I was at school or working away from a television. It would be the story most prominent in the country or the world. When will the time come for the daily reports to STOP?! The fact that most of the world is run by leaders who take the side that promote violence and injustice, rather than trying to bring peace, is beyond me. In these trying times, and times where we actually need to start doing something in the world, rather than sharing our “thoughts and prayers” on our irrelevant social media accounts. "Some things just drag and drag you down, in your reality, in your dreams and it feels you can't get away from them. But as long as we realize our strength and push on, we will be alright." - Ruby Speeches are powerful, journalism is exceptional, but music has that unique way of portraying a powerful message. Step up to that idea is the music video. Economic inequality & giving back to community. Drake – God’s Plan Drake gave away almost 1 million dollars in his music video for God’s Plan. Despite all the skeptical comments and reviews, I love this video and idea. This is so refreshing to see a successful music artist give back to his fans. I don’t think he is asking for praise, especially since he did not promote the video. He just said “this is the most important thing I have ever done in my career.”

Sexual Harassment Kesha – Praying In my opinion, Kesha was the pioneer for the sexual harassment acknowledgement in our society, and for that I thank her bravery. It is a song rebirth, and a prime example that a person can heal. You have the power to realize the harm that is done to you can end, and know that you can move forward without them. Violence The Stop the Violence Movement - Self Destruction This song was posted 10 years ago to draw attention to violence solely in the hip-hop and African American communities, and each lyric still applies today, but to more groups and demographics. This lyric sparks the call for change “It's time to stand together in a unity 'Cause if not then we're soon to be Self-destroyed, unemployed The rap race will be lost without a trace Or a clue but what to do” Seeking freedom and justice Common, John Legend – Glory Written for the movie Selma, “Glory” is a hope for the day when freedom and justice is upon us all for all races and walks of life. Glory is destined. When all hope is lost and you need a song to boost your spirits Kendrick Lamar – Alright Because after all…we’re going to be alright. Me too. Until next time.

It is really something special when you get to witness and support an artist’s growth right from the beginning, and Leanne Louise has blossomed continuously over the past years - almost a decade. She’s had her ups and downs, as we all have, and a lot of times in which she’s worn her heart on her sleeve and she inspirationally powers through. It’s so great to see her bubbly nature and passion for music strong as ever. She’s really working hard and having fun. We are excited to chat with Leanne Louise as she releases her new single ‘My Goodbye’.

sent me over an instrumental and instantly the lyrics and melody line just flowed out of me. I wanted to write a song that would empower people, not just provoke the negative feelings of a break up but the great ones you feel at that turning point when you’re ready to bounce back and achieve everything you’re made for achieving. Within a week of me writing the song, we were in his studio laying down the vocals.

My Inspiration… As a singer/so ngwriter I base a lot, if not the majority, of my songs around situations in life that I go through / the feelings I feel and this particular song (My Goodbye) came about very organically. I’d reached a turning point in my life and mindset after having my heartbroken, I found it really hard to write about the heartbreak so I teamed up with a good friend of mine and producer ‘My Goodbye’, produced by who’s name is Sovereign (known for Sovereign, is a fantastic fresh little his presence in the UKG scene), he number. The snappy and assertive 16

side of Leanne Louise’s voice is paired with a nifty uk garage beat. There is a beautiful surprise of the sublime long vocal notes and a little twist of dark bass to create a great contrast. The story speaks of a bad breakup. You are the joker in a pack of cards. You must be joking, boy I’m the queen of hearts. This is goodbye baby. The music video shows the fun which Leanne Louise puts into her work. It kicks off with the showcase of her record and online networks. This jumps into reality with her singing along in the style of a live session as fan reactions bubble away at the bottom of the screen. Emoji’s pop up throughout to reinforce the lyrics whilst Leanne’s spirited character shines through with her movements and gestures. My Career… Right now I’m so happy with how things are turning out because it’s been a good few years since I released anything officially (my last official release was ‘Mr Magician’), but I’ve been experimenting a lot with different sounds and visions for the past 2 years and I have a confident vision of the sort of record I want to create. So, I’m very happy with what I’m working on but always moving forward and keeping an open mind to new opportunities.

been working with a lot of people over the past few years and now a good few projects will be seeing the light of day. I am working on a record, that is definitely one of my biggest focus’, however, I also have a collaboration with an incredible rapper from Canada named Illvibe and our new single ‘Figure it out’ (produced by Notion) will be coming out on his album entitled ‘Antigravity’ on the 20th April. I am collaborating with a lot of incredible producers, some from the UK and some from different parts of the world too. My motto for this year is definitely say less and do more but I can't wait to show everyone what I’ve been up to. To celebrate the launch of ‘My Goodbye’, Leanne also introduces the #MYGOODBYECHALLENGE whereby vocalists have the opportunity to sing over the instrumental version. The winner will receive a studio session to record their creation courtesy of UR2RATCHET.COM and also will get the chance to perform with Leanne Louise across the country. To enter, all you have to do is download the instrumental from Leanne Louise’s Soundcloud, record your version and upload it to her Facebook page. Entries close on 18th March and winners will be announced 20th March.

My Future… This year is very exciting because I’ve 18

My Goodbye… Yes, I’d like to say a BIG thank you to yourself and everyone that has shown me so much support, not just with the release of ‘My Goodbye’ but, with any project that I turn my hands to. It’s always a little bit nervewracking when you haven’t released anything for a while but everyone has shown me so much support, my song is played on different radio stations every day, shared with new people from different countries… There’s so much more but, THANK YOU.

Pa Large / Don't Give Up Hello Yall. Hope you are doing great! It has been quite long time I have not sent some thoughts from the island. Well, these times were quite hard and stressful (I hate using this word), I can feel these loads on my shoulder literally. My positivity has been shot many times and felt like putting knees to ground. The will to give up was enticing and pressing as well. I would like to share my experience as how music helped me through and especially one style I do not fancy that much. Being head first in those dark times and when the waves keep coming and crushing you to ground, having a life line, even the thinnest, is the most welcome. I have clung to it, still clinging, and getting the best of me to overcome these issues. "Take a deep breath", the advise from a close friend of mine, well I have taken very deep ones and the best I had got a gutty instinctive roar, shaking my inner foundations. I am rather peaceful and quiet person; but I have accepted that at times this anger needs to come out and been transformed in other ways, one of the best (non destructive/non violent) is having a deep gutty roar which vibrates your whole body and releases your inner frustrations. Rap does helped me in the process. Eminem's song Till I Collapse was the perfect catalyst. The flow of words, the beat, the crescendo gaining in such intensity made me yelled my deep feelings. Thanks Eminem! I have tried with some other titles and the feeling was the same. Eminem - Phenomenal & 2Pac - Legendary are also boosters. Hopefully, these days are better and even if they were not I have learnt to expel the negativity and keep a positive mindset. I send you people positive thoughts from the island and much love to help you through. #PaLarge #DontGiveUp 20

Chillout...

Blackboxx - Province Close your your eyes and sink into the tranquility. Absorb the beautiful melodic tones, painting a picturesque scene. Wander across to a sombre state of emotions, the ache of a dark past. It’s my cold heart beating in my chest. A delicate story is told, the wavering mind and soul feeling every sensation. Slime Recordings welcomes back Blackboxx to the label, as he continues to mature into an increasingly talented artist reaching above genre confines to find a space unique to his style - emotive, cinematic, expressive. In his most experimental work to date, ’Province’ affords a glimpse into what will be a bright future for the Edinburgh producer.

Mija ft Kelli Schaefer - Bad For U A moment in the darkness. This world is bad for u. The subdued tone and a hypnotising voice. But, all is not lost. There is beauty in the delicate melody unfolding. I don’t know you really… We take a leap of faith and feel an energy within. As far as I can tell, I know you better than anybody else. 22

The Big Narstie Show (W/T) Coming soon to Channel 4, this will be a late night slot of entertainment and fun. The show will be honest by MC Big Narstie alongside comedian Mo Gilligan. Bi Narstie is well known for his energetic character and this is, no doubt, going to be an on-trend and lively watch. Grime MC, Big Narstie, of BDL (Base Defence League) and online agonyuncle fame, will team up with co-host, Mo Gilligan, to present a late night, alternative entertainment show. In the non-TX pilot, Narstie and Mo will be joined by celebrity guests as they present original, straight-talking segments on the news of the week, TV, showbiz, trends, phone-ins, and food. In 2017 Big Narstie took part in two of Channel 4's most popular programmes for young audiences - Gogglebox: Celebrity Special for Stand Up To Cancer and The Big Fat Quiz of the Year 2017 which attracted 38.8% and 34.6% share of 16-34 year old viewers respectively, more than doubling Channel 4's slot average. Syeda Irtizaali, Commissioning Editor, Channel 4 says, “We’re thrilled to work with Big Narstie again, as it’s clear from his previous Channel 4 appearances that he is en route to becoming something of a national treasure. It really feels like an opportunity for a brilliant and ridiculous show which flips the conventional magazine show format on its head.” Ben Wicks, Creative Director, Comedy Entertainment at Expectation and Executive Producer, says “Big Narstie is an incredibly talented, charismatic, charming and funny man who has some of the best turns of phrase the English language has ever known. We are very excited about working with him, and Mo Gilligan, the most must-see comedian on the circuit whose inimitable high-energy style is sure to take TV by storm. This is a show I cannot wait to watch let alone make.” The non-TX pilot episode was commissioned for Channel 4 by Ed Havard, Head of Entertainment with Syeda Irtizaali, Commissioning Editor, Entertainment and Events and Shaminder Nahal, Commissioning Editor, Specialist Factual. ‘Office Crush’ by Skallee & Wagz ft MC RB and Amealia Akorsua is a lively number. The fun production pairs nicely against the two fresh vocals. This release pulls a lot of great minds from the underground together with a generous remix package too. Aaron K turns heads with a highenergy intro leading to a dark bass-driven main section. Lil Rich adds a bumpy UKG beat with a bright feel. Danny Blaze brings out a deep and moody dub edit with quick-fire vocal cuts. MR SX takes an urban edge emphasising the fresh flow of the vocals with an addictive beat. And, last but not least, Rdubz pulls out two edits. ‘Tell Me Why’ immediately grabs you; an uplifting s y n t h r i ff a n d a n e x p r e s s i v e v o c a l w h i s k y o u a w a y t o somewhere special. M i c h a e l ’ s m e l o d i c a p p r o a c h t o h i s m u s i c works wonders yet again turning this catchy tune into a pop song to sing along too. The London based producer has brought some of his recent real-life, heart felt travel experiences into creating his beautiful new single. “Last summer I’ve was travelling around Miami, Maldives and in Palma De Mallorca and I fell in love with the tropical house Sound. It was constantly played during my holidays. Once I got back to my studio in London I started layering some ideas and naturally created something that recalled those sounds I heard. As usual, I still wanted to make a romantic pop song, which is my trademark, and I wanted to talk about the feeling of instability when your heart is on the other side of the world. Here’s how “Tell Me Why” was born.” Michael Push Sardinian born, now London based, DJ & producer Michael Push is no stranger to success. His broad taste and love for the 4/4 beat means he can straddle the boundaries from underground vibes through to a more commercial, crossover sound. He broke into the scene in 2012 with his single ‘Freeze’ which garnered MTV Dance Chart success and was signed to the legendary Disco:wax imprint. He has worked with Xf a c t o r c o n t e s t a n t s , h a d o ffi c i a l U K D a n c e C h a r t successes and been featured and highlighted in the past by the likes of DJ Mag as new musical talent to look out for. www.michaelpush.com 35

THE FIRST TRACK ENTERS WITH A LOVELY MELLOW TONE LEADING INTO A GRITTY BIT OF BASS! THE SECOND TRACK BRINGS IN A GREAT OLDSCHOOL BEAT, THEN COMES IN THE DARK SIDE. A BLIPPI LITTLE REMIX FINISHES THE EP OFF. OPENING ON SOFT PADS AND DREAMY DIVA VOCALS ACROSS A SKITTERING 2-STEP RHYTHM, ‘BEEHIVE’ QUICKLY MAKES GOOD ON IT’S NAME BY DROPPING A BUZZING BASSLINE THAT CUTS THROUGH THE CORE OF THE TRACK, ADDING A JUICY DOLLOP OF FUNK TO PROCEEDINGS. ‘CINNAMON’ DROPS DEEPER FOR A MORE SUBTLE AND SOULFUL AFFAIR, WITH SUMMERY KEYS SPRINKLED OVER A BUBBLING UKG GROOVE AND SWIRLING SUB-BASS. ‘Skin’ by Tayá ft Lotto Boyzz is oh so sultry. I’m lost in you, I don’t wanna be found. The voice is simply divine with sweet notes full of passion. The pairing is complete with the raspy male flow, setting the mood for L-O-V. The visuals are equally sensual with deep shades of reds and blues accompanied with subdued yet glamorous shots. Liverpool raised R’n’B songbird Tayá reveals her new single and accompanying visuals to the sultry laid back track Skin, featuring one of the most exciting Afro-Bashment duos of the moment, Lotto Boyzz. The sensual, heartfelt “Skin” continues to demonstrate Tayá’s amorous soul vocals alongside her infectious songwriting manifesting her into a true rising star. Producer Alan Sampson (Rita Ora, Zayn Malik, Craig David) incorporates that classic R’n’B vibe with a present freshness in a true Tayá fashion. “Skin signifies the point in a new relationship where it all feels really exciting and you feel ready to take it to the next level. In this case I'm talking about myself, but I think this can apply to anyone. It doesn't matter who you are or how old you are, those butterflies never go. Everyone can relate to these emotions when it comes to L-O-V. It’s also one of my favourite songs to perform” Tayá Tayá has already gathered huge early support from the likes of Annie Mac, Mistajam, Clara Amfo, Trevor Nelson, DJ Target and Toddla T, alongside i-D, THE FADER, Mixmag, Wonderland, Notion, Hunger, Noisey and more. She continues to perfect her live show with huge support tours under her belt with the likes of Zara Larsson and Astrid S. Having been spotted playing live at an early age in her hometown of Liverpool, UK, the 19 -year old has already been collaborating with some of the finest R&B influenced producers both in the UK and Stateside. These producers include UK based Starsmith, Diztortion and Snakehips and US based Rodney Jerkins, Fisticuffs (Miguel/Jhene Aiko), DJ Khalil (Drake), Al Shux (Kendrick Lemar and SZA) and Sango (Goldlink). www.atlanticrecords.co.uk 39

Produced by Mark Bright (Carrie Underwood, Rascall Flatts) and written by Sarah with country hit songwriters Josh Osborne (Kacey Musgraves, Sam Hunt et al) & Marc Beeson (Blake Shelton, LeAnn Rimes) ‘Wasted’ is a beautiful, poignant reflection of the devastating effects of addiction. The song was previewed to an entranced audience at Sarah’s sold out Christmas 2017 concert at St Pancras Old Church, where she explained it was possibly the most personal song she had ever written; “’Wasted’ is a track that is particularly personal to me as it deals with the emotional distress addiction causes for everyone. It’s not just the person abusing but also the people around.” “You can’t hold your whiskey and hold me too” Originally written when Sarah first moved to Nashville from Iowa, the song has remained unreleased until now, as Sarah explains “I always felt like it was special but didn’t know what to do with it. Maybe because the subject is so heavy I stopped playing it, but somehow those special tunes always find their way.” www.sarahdarling.com 40

An emotional loss of love. A low, reflective voice. A soothing piano. Although it’s hard to walk away, I’ll learn to love again another day. The mood changes. We see the light in the distance. A passionate strength finds the vocals, the beat kicks in and we feel the relief. The tracks holds a great, uplifting spirit through a difficult time in one’s life. The darkness needs to be cleared to make way for better things. This is not the end, it’s just the beginning. Mon Frère discuss the production a little, stating that they want to “keep the balance of organic and authentic with a modern pop driving groove.” When speaking of the theme, is is described as “acceptance of a deteriorating relationship.” www.monfrere.co.uk 42

‘Monolith’ by Hal Stucker is a delightful piece of music. The enchanting twinkly elements, vivid energy and light tone is really very warming. This is the first instalment of David Forbes first Hal Stucker album ‘Electronic Excursions’ (forthcoming on Pure Progressive in a couple of months time). The Hal Stucker sound is dance legend David Forbes (Public Domain, Optimus, Active Force, Tekra, Arkadi etc.) exploring his progressive side; deep, emotive, melodic, expertly crafted dance music. Nestling into a 120bpm groove, Monolith expresses it’s midnight mood by way of lush pads, cavernous vocal-clip reverbs, glittering arpeggiated sequences, subterranean bass tones and an expertly crafted arrangement. This is a fabulous taster of what is to come.

A deep and wondrous journey. The duo delivers progressions through dark and alone/solemn moods to a more inquisitive state of mind. Two brilliant deep progressive cuts here from Russia’s Slam Duck. PT I of ‘Mercury’ opens with moody tones, filtered beats and growling bass. Fluttery synths & metallic atmospheric swells escalate throughout until a sweeping filtering lead opens up at the break. Mercury PT. II is all about the mutating, throbbing acidic bass line which propels this beauty forward. The rattling 808 percussion is sharp & precise whilst cavernous reverbs saturate the mix. Lush.

‘Dreamyness’ by Arggic is a lovely bright production. The catchy rhythm maintains your attention on the dance floor. The gem of the male and female vocal interlude is extraordinary. A lot of flavour in this track. Rising star Arggic is back on InfraProgressive with his brand new single ‘Dreamyness’. After making his debut as part of our Summer Sampler in 2017 and more recently delivering a killer remix of Sean Mathews ‘I Reckon’, Arggic goes back to his roots and delivers a fresh slice of progressive trance. ‘Dreamyness’ will certainly delight the masses, thanks to its playful melody, uplifting summer vibe and sumptuous chords. Arggic sure knows how to craft those essential, smash records. www.infrasonicrecordings.com 46

‘Can't Shake It Off’ by Husky Feat Nat Conway is a vibrant and breezy dance track. The soft vocals and a catchy beat bring a feelgood vibe. Of the remixes, Mark Di Meo stands out by adding a beautiful jazz flavour. Husky starts 2018 as he left off in 2017, delivering another powerful single of his world-class house music. This time featuring a long time friend and collaborator Nat Conway, who is best known for her work with industry heavyweights like Satin Jackets and Defected Records Sonny Fodera and Sam Divine. ‘Can’t Shake It Off’ explores his usual deep soul tones with snappy drums and clean production and highlights Nat’s incredible vocals and harmonies. The vocal hook is as powerful as it is delicate in it’s delivery. To put it simply, It’s a beautiful record. Remixing this fine piece of music is some of the biggest names in house at the moment, Alaia & Gallo. Hailing from Italy the duo deliver a club ready version of the track, offering their trademark production to kick things up a notch. Mark Di Meo from LA bring his incredible soulful touch to the remix. With live elements flowing through this remix it’s as organic as your chickpea burgers at the local vegan restaurant. Timeless music creation from Mark here, and we’re sure it will tickle any classic soulful house lover. Finally Husky also gives his own record a rework, mutating the vocal and stripping the song back for a classic M1 organ bass club smash. www.soundcloud.com/bobbinheadmusic 47
