‘Sometimes God will put tests in front of you…’ which is exactly what happened this year to UK artist Snybz aka MC Snye-B. One test after another is what he recently experienced.

10

www.AudationMagazine.com

It started one night after one of his performances. He received a call from his sister who informed him that his father had a heart attack and was in the hospital not doing well. As he was on the freeway rushing to the hospital, he experienced car trouble which caused him to be stranded aside the road waiting for a tow. After a few hours, he was finally able to get to the hospital to see his father. It was 32 days before his father was able to come home. A few short days after his father’s heart attack his young son fell ill. He became dehydrated and lethargic, he had to be rushed to emergency. His son was admitted to hospital for three long and scary days. Not long after that he experienced the dissolution of his relationship with his son’s mother. All of this had a significant impact on his own wellbeing. He found himself thrust into a battle with depression. He was able to seek help and find solace in the support from his friends and family. He was also able to let his feelings out through his pen, writing his own story in ‘Exhale’. He then tried to take a step back and see what all this was trying to teach him. What was the lesson he could learn from all this? He determined that he needed to be mindful of what he needed. For a lack of a better way of putting it, self-care/ self-love. His advice to others is to remember that pain is only temporary. If you spend too much time focusing on the negative, you will miss seeing all your blessings. You will miss the silver lining. When life gives you punches, get right back up and punch back ten times harder! This is exactly what he has done. He has move forward making positive improvements, even starting his own business! He is optimistic that his creative juices have been rekindled and we will see more from him soon. www.facebook.com/Snybz

My Crazy Summer The last weeks of the summer were quite hectic for me, 10 flights in less than 2 weeks, from north to south, from east to west. NORWAY 29 August: My flights to the most northern part of Norway, Kirkenes‌ I have been asked to play at the club night for Grenselos Festivalen, the biggest festival of the north of Norway. It takes a full day to get all the away up north from Amsterdam to Oslo, from Oslo to Kirkenes, with a 5 hour stopover in Oslo. I always love to go for a walk there and check out the town and nature. Weird detail, at the end of my set, from 23:00 to 02:00 I step outside and it's still light. I play here at least twice a year and they always take great care of me. Amazing food, champagne and a weekend full of fun and crazy Norwegians! I flew back on Sunday. 3 - 5 September: I am home to work on new music and do the stuff I need to do at home.

12

www.AudationMagazine.com

CYPRUS 6 September: It's time to fly again. This time I play in Kyrenia in the northern (Turkish) part of Cyprus. This is a big gig, in the famous Cage club, voted as the best club of Turkey and North Cyprus. I am headliner on the Friday and it's always very exciting to play here. Normally I stay at the hotel that belongs to the club, but this time I stayed at my friend's place. He has a great house with pool, BBQ and a Playstation. I arrive on Thursday night and I kicked his ass with FIFA a few times. 7 September: During the day we spent most of the time in and around the pool with a few more friends and a few cold beers. Around 22:00 we hook up with the managers for a really nice dinner with way too much food. My set starts at 01:30 till 03:00 and it was amazing! The famous AKON came over to check out my set as well. 8 September: More good food, more FIFA, more cold beers and more pool time. 9 September: In the morning I fly back home, with a short stopover in Athens. Another weekend full of great memories. 10 September: I can rest and prepare for the next trip: Ibiza! 13

IBIZA 11 September: Another flight! This time Ibiza. I've got the good news that my friend will join me on this trip. We booked an extra day and a car, so we could enjoy some of the island as well. After a very turbulent flight we arrive at Ibiza around 13:00, time to pick up the car and check in at the hotel. We have the rest of the day to chill and we do some great sightseeing like Cafe del Mar sunset, Mambo and some nice beaches. My set starts at midnight at the legendary Es Paradis, I played some of my new tracks and it all went well. The next day we had a full day of free time and we spent most of it on a few beaches. At night we had VIP tickets for Armin in HĂŻ, so we went to see the show. Great thing he played my new track during his set. I am looking forward to next summer already!

An Introduction To Mac Miller After the passing from apparent drug overdose at his studio city home In California in September of Pittsburgh born and raised rapper, artist and producer Mac Miller, it seems fitting to say a few words about him. As a relatively late starter to Mac Miller, I’ll admit I only became aware of Mac's work after the release of the excellent laid-back groovy track ‘Dang’ featuring Anderson.Paak. I soon realised this young 20-something year old white rapper had a lot more about him than just rapping. Producing under the name Larry Fisherman amongst other pseudonyms, real name Malcolm McCormick could play bass, lead guitar and drums. He was an excellent keyboardist, produced his own beats and sang, all by his early twenties. In 2010, he signed a record deal with Pittsburgh-based indie record label Rostrum Records and released his debut album ‘Blue Slide Park’ which was released on November 8, 2011. In July 2011 the title was announced, having been named after a section of Frick Park (which is known as Blue Slide Park) in Pittsburgh. The park section is at the corner of Beechwood Blvd and Nicholson Street which is just two blocks from Taylor Allderdice High School where Miller attended, and was his childhood hang out. Many people in Europe only really knew Mac Miller from dating Ariana Grande but had he not passed on 6th September 2018, with his ever constantly evolving music style, Mac Miller could do it all. And, I’m sure he would have undoubtedly gone on to be a massive worldwide artist having already achieved house-hold name status in the USA. But, unfortunately it seems Mac Miller finally lost his battle with drugs, depression and demons which he talked openly about in many interviews. Even with all his problems, it did not stop Mac releasing five studio albums before his untimely death at the age of just 26. He has since received countless tributes from other artists in his field including Travis Scott, Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar, Macklemore, Maroon 5, Elton John and many more. I’ve personally been producing and realising many records since 1991 and I’m astonished how much Mac Miller learned and contributed to the music world by his mid 20’s. A true talent and engaging character that will be sorely missed. Who says a white guy can't have soul? RIP Malcolm Mccormick, 19 January 1992 - 7 September 2018

Four years ago, legendary DJ/producer Grant Nelson launched a new radio station. Little did he know that it would not only be a radio station but would also become a family of it’s own! www.d3ep.com www.facebook.com/d3epradio

www.AudationMagazine.com

It's the 1st of September. 4 years ago today I launched something a little bit different, never expecting it to become what it has today. The concept was to provide a platform and space for the music I loved without having to resort to any form of advertising, sponsors, click bait, customer tracking / analytics or any other kind of stuff that I felt (at the time, and even more so now) was ruining the once free and open internet. I spent months going through mixtapes, literally listened to thousands of them from DJs all over the world, searching for what I considered to be some of the best undiscovered (in some cases) talent out there. We dropped our first beats at 00:00 on the 1st September 2014 and have been non-stop ever since. Over a hundred DJs from every corner of the planet and 4 years later and I couldn't be any prouder of the D3EP family. Not just for their skills and music selection and not just for their endless dedication to deliver the best of the best to our ear holes week in, week out, but also for the incredible world-wide community that they have created through their raw passion for the music. I honestly can't thank everybody involved enough, whether behind the scenes or front of house and, of course, to all of you that tune in as it's your ears that make this all worthwhile. Lastly, watch out for some brilliant new additions to our DJ family over the coming weeks and thank you once again for keeping it D3EP! - Grant Nelson

"Those four years have shot by and been a honour to be part of the D3EP family. Grant, many thanks for all you hard work in making it happen and keeping it rolling. Also massive respect to all the other DJs, past and present, and out to all the listeners x" Keith Harmer

"A personal huge thank you Grant for the opportunity to be involved in the station, thanks for all your hard work you've put into D3EP, and a big big shout to all the D3EP DJ's and very loyal listeners. Big LOVE to the damn lot of you!!! xxxx" Jon Manley 19

"It’s an absolute honour to play on D3EP and be a part of the platform that Grant Nelson has provided for us. There’s a great feeling and spirit between the DJ’s, and the growth and progress of the station has been momentous. The most important ingredient though are the listeners, we have a fantastic listener base that is really in tune to the station's vibe, it’s remarkable to see them travelling and sometimes flying over from different countries and continents just to hear the D3EP DJ’s play at gigs." James Lee

“So stoked to be part of this. 4 years have passed so quick. Thanks for giving me a platform to play on this great station along with a great lineup of other great selectors.” Jonny Wadd

“I am so honoured to be a part of the D3EP family. I honestly feel that you have brought together some of the best people in the world, and not just musically, but spiritually as well." Michelle Johnson, listener

“So proud and excited to be part of the absolute best online crew for Proper House’n’Garage! Big up to you my twin Andrea and to you boss Grant Nelson." Nycks

"D3EP is in our blood now. Its a way of life. Maximum respect to the listeners and also Grant Nelson for the work he does behind the scenes to keep this thing running," Braaks

"Such an honour to spin with the D3EP family!!! Thank you all.” Knox

"An HONOUR to be a small part of it Grant Nelson. It's a brilliant station. More power to you for doing it." David Dunne 20

Acoustic Truth When I heard Acoustic Truth’s recent song ‘You Make Me Great’, I was once again moved by their warm, harmonized voices. They fit together like a hand and glove. When Ryan and Sarah Lendy met at Chicago summer camp for children with special needs, neither knew how significant they would become to each other and how they would influence the lives of so many others through their music. In 2011 these best friends wrote their first song together. After several years and several life changes, their songwriting is stronger than ever. No longer solely best friends, they are now husband and wife, and mother and father to son Jeremiah. The pair have always hoped their music would provide hope and inspiration to others. Prior to the birth of their son the couple had been touring, playing for audiences throughout the United States. Once Jeremiah was born, they took some time to focus on their songwriting. They began playing more in their church and moving towards outreach for Christ. Initially their music while inspirational was mostly secular and they were not sure how their established fans would take their transition into the realm of contemporary Christian music. Thankfully though, their fans have been very supportive and, through the transition, they have gained a tremendous number of new fans. It seems people are finding their music, which focuses on personal stories and daily struggles, to be a relatable and welcomed influence. This choice has been a blessing to this talented team. It has opened the doors to many new opportunities which are currently in the works. They have also had the opportunity to team up with the Christian network, Gods 411. This pairing has been a tremendous help in spreading their music with their latest video reaching five million people in a matter of 28 days. They never imagined that was possible. However, they continue to remain humble and stress that for them it is about the music and about the people. The future is looking positive for this uplifting couple with current talks in the works surrounding their music and their songwriting. Hopefully, we will see some big announcements from them soon. www.facebook.com/AcousticTruth www.AcousticTruthOfficial.com

Raising Awareness Of Mental Illness Through Music Mon Frère are just incredible, not only do they support us immensely, but they really put love and emotions into their work. Their recent music have taken us aback with the theme of mental strength, sharing situations which can relate to many of life’s challenges. There is always huge power which we really feel deeply and are motivated by. ‘See What You Mean To Me’ featuring Mileva is another emotive addition to their catalog. This single is in difficult support of the Tonic Music for Mental Health charity which gives people a voice through music and challenges perceptions of mental health. 50% of proceeds go towards the charity. Your smile’s a lullaby. A soothing tune distracts my troubled mind. It has also been touching to understand the story behind this single, Paul’s own battles with OCD. His anxiety changed to relief after further knowledge on what was going on, why, how it can be helped and, most importantly, the knowledge that he isn’t alone. 24

Brighton based pop music producers, Mon Frère, have linked up with the dedicated charity, Tonic Music for Mental Health, to help raise awareness and funds. Mon Frère were moved to join up with Tonic due to their own experiences in this area which can often be mis-understood, mis-represented and under resourced. Paul and Matt from Mon Frère said, “As a pop act, we are surrounded by excellent musicians and have become very aware of how many of these artists, although confident on the outside, often struggle internally with a vast array of different mental health issues. So, we investigated this further and found that in a recent survey of musicians undertaken by the Help Musicians UK charity, it was discovered that 71% of surveyed musicians reported that they have experienced anxiety and panic attacks. Another 65% reported they had suffered from depression.” “This set us on a journey of thinking about how we can help. We understand that mental health issues are not just prevalent in the music industry. Many people suffer with serious issues that affect their everyday life. So, we looked at local charities and discovered a deeply committed one right on our doorstep. The fact that Tonic is a mental health charity which also uses the medium of music seemed the perfect organisation to try and link with.” Tonic Music for Mental Health is a not-for-profit organisation based in the SouthCoast of England and established in 2012. Tonic have both Terry Hall (The Specials) and Kevin Cummins (Music Photographer) as their patrons. Tonic raises awareness and challenges the stigma often associated with mental illness through music and art-based events. Tonic organise music workshops, gigs, art groups, and community projects throughout the year for people experiencing mental health problems. In the current climate of austerity measures and government cuts, services available to people with mental health problems are often limited and hard to access. Tonic aim to support people who may already be receiving input from mental health services and those who have not had any previous contact to provide an inclusive support network to help people through their recovery. Mon Frère are committing half of all the pre-sales of their next single, ‘See what you mean to me’ to Tonic. The song was written about the struggles one can face with mental health and how the support of others can be so vital. The single, released on October 6th, features the stunning vocals of Mileva Corenthin and is a beautiful, dreamy pop song from south coast band. If you pre-order the single you will also get the chance to get their current single, ‘Caught up Caught out’ for free. www.tonicmusic.co.uk

Nick Sarpa Twin flames, Light workers, Starseeds… all beautiful souls of our planet. The time is here. AWAKEN. Wipe the sleep from ye eyes. Nap time is over. Present, past or transcending our 3rd dimension, music is a world language, love the universal healer and light the universe itself in action. In enters passion filled with creativity. Drop music in the mix and you could quite possibly have a purpose to raise vibrations. Given our fast-evolving world and revolutionary rise of consciousness, special souls around the world are awakening to their truth. Some are doing it with their educated skills, some with learned talent and others still with inherent ancient gifts. What’s important is that they are following their hearts. Nick Sarpa from Sydney, is a promising, authentic and passionate emerging DJ with heart. He took time out to let us into his journey of truth. He’s certainly a DJ we enjoyed collaborating with down under. Here’s what he has to share with the world.

How did it all start for you? My love for music started as a child around the age of 5, watching and listening to the weekly Video Hit Charts. Over the years it continued to grow, opening my eyes to different genres. It wasn’t until I was 14, that I was introduced to Classic Trance & Hi NRG which drew me into the idea of electronic music, where my passion for music really kicked off. The idea of being a DJ grabbed me when I went to my first nightclub in Sydney, being DCM, which allowed me to hear and see what a DJ can do to a track, to manipulate and blend it with another to create a form of art. I wanted to be that person. What do you most love playing? Currently I’m journeying through Tech House & Techno as I’ve new found love for it and want to continue to focus and grow in these two genres. However, if I ever get the chance to go back to my roots and play occasionally with the unique sound of HI NRG, Hard House and Classic Trance, then this is where all the fun is. Favourite food? Being a BIG lover of food, I really enjoy tasting every type of cuisine, however being Italian, I cannot say no to a good bowl of pasta and a slice of pizza. Who’s your muse in the music world? Growing up with music, I

encountered several idols as my love of music evolved, starting with Paul Van Dyk & Tiesto in their classic days from 1998 - 2004. But now I get majority of my inspiration from the one and only king, Carl Cox!

“Music gives a soul to the Universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” Plato

How would you describe the dance scene in Sydney? The dance scene in Sydney is still continuing to grow after there was a setback with laws. This caused a lot of venues to close. However, due to the growing popularity of Tech House & Techno, parties are still going very strong, attracting large crowds, which gives hope for the Sydney scene to turn around dramatically. Favourite colour? I always contemplate between blue and red but I'd say red is the one that always gets me. What single night out has been the most memorable for you? As a DJ, my most memorable night to date is the Halloween party I hosted in Sydney. The vibe inside the place was screaming as the venue was 28

almost at full capacity. What made this even more special was the crowd being in the Halloween spirit, coming dressed for the occasion. My recent visit to the magical island of Ibiza has to be my highlight. Even though I wasn’t behind the decks this time, being a part of the crowd for Jamie Jones’s Paradise party at DC-10 will be something I’ll never ever forget. What are your future plans for your music career? My future plans for my career are to continue to expose myself to the world. I will be going on tour from December, journeying my way through different parts of the world and sharing my love and passion for music so then one day I can reach my ultimate dream, being on that stage with the king of Techno. I also want to produce my own music and have my own record label. What is your advice to emerging talent, and how can they set aside any fears and pursue their dreams with courage? My advice is to be authentic and not follow the crowd. If you want to be recognised for something, stick with your own style and idea, and persist with it. Staying focused on your goals is the key, and making small steps every day. It can be a bit nerveracking in front of crowds, but feel the fear and do it anyway, it gets easier.

www.AudationMagazine.com

Favourite holiday destination? Every part of the world I have visited has its own unique thing about it, whether it’s Queenstown for snow season, or Ibiza for parties, or Phuket for the beaches. I do enjoy the lifestyle and adventures that arise in Asia, so this would have to be my choice for now. What are the things bug you about the DJ scene? Nothing, because every problem or issue is just an opportunity to learn and grow. Name one track that never gets old for you no matter how many times you hear it? The one track that will never get old for me has to be Kamillian – Guidance (Space Brothers Mix). For me this is something I would hear every weekend in the nightclubs in Sydney and it would never disappoint.

quite the ideal to me. His obsessive passion for music is what I see in myself. One of very many reason that stands out to me is the way he has always stuck to his own style and persisted with it and not followed anyone else's trend. What festivals would you most like to play at? There are so many music festivals all over the world but if I had to choose 3, I would like to be a part of Awakenings Festival in Amsterdam, Burning Man in Las Vegas & Zurich Street Parade. ________________________________ Listen to the Sarperb Sounds weekly show on Soundcloud. www.soundcloud.com/mrsarpa www.mrsarpa.com

If you could get eternally stuck in one year's music scene, which year would that be? I would love to be taken back to the year of 1999. To me, all genres of music, whether it was hip hop, rap, house, italodance, trance, eurodance were all at their peak. Who do you aspire to and who influenced you the most? I would have to say Carl Cox is the guy I aspire to the most and would also be my greatest influence. His journey from a young age has been SEKSiCuLLTURE - Awakening Hearts

TRACK OF THE MONTH: 'Ladders' by Mac Miller f t Jon Batiste & Stay Human ‘Ladders’ opens with an arpeggiated eerie synth before breaking Into retro style keyboards with Mac singing in acapella style. A funky four to the floor disco beat drops. Funk guitars and 80’s style synth chord stabs get things moving along nicely, A cool laid-back rap and singing vocal by Mac really makes this track come alive in the verses finished off In the chorus with a great stand-out chic style horn and brass section. I particularly love the live version which featured on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, 14th August 2018. Other favourite’s of mine from the Swimming album Include the intro track ‘Come Back To Earth’. There is another cracking live version from the Hotel Cafe of ‘ Hurt Feelings’, which Mac posted on his own Youtube channel one day before he passed away, Another awesome track is ‘Whats The Use’ and, of course, his new single ‘Self Care’ which has a great message and video.

NEW MUSIC

‘Our Reflections’ by MBX is mesmerising. The complex meld of emotions are perplexing, the smooth yet intense atmosphere captivates you. The track is quite understated with a seemingly simply structure until you close your eyes and really let it penetrate deep into your skin and your feel the incredible moving energy. Since blasting onto the OHM Music roster this past March, MBX has stolen the show, leading the way as we climbed aboard for our ethereal quest to the stars on 'Expanse' and inviting us to join him on a vivid expedition through the 'Valley Of Time'. As you make your way back down to reality, it would be wise to keep your bags packed because the journey has only just begun. ‘Queen of Hearts’ by Franko Fraize is packed with attitude and honesty. The snappy and tuneful lyrical flow gets you hooked. The smooth chorus is really lovely and warming. The bubbly beat kicks in and compliments the spirit in vocals really well.

SHE’S PROVI NG I NNOCENCE IS BEAU TI FUL. CUPI D’S STUPI D WHEN THE DU TY CALLS.

Eloquently piecing together a portrait depicting the life of his female protagonist, Franko Fraize releases his breathtaking single ‘Queen of Hearts’. Plagued by insecurities and riddled with self-doubt his powerful single echoes a story that delves deep into the life of the leading lady as we are taken through her footsteps. The composition of the lyricism, combined with the mesmerising production creates an atmospheric instrumental that is infused with piano loops and drums patterns. ‘Queen of Hearts’ is the third single to be released from his forthcoming ‘Lights and Colour’ EP, due for release this Autumn. It comes off the back of his feel good single ‘Let It Go’, which is a nostalgic dance inspired summer scorcher. The first of the three tracks was ‘Side By Side’, which received a nod from 1Xtra DJ Mistajam who said: “I’ve been keeping my eye on him for a while but this is possibly his best track to date!”. Unconfined by genre Franko Fraize’s musical diversity is evident through his music and the last three releases plays homage to his eclectic taste. Having quite the legacy to his name already, the Norfolk native sits high on many radars in the music world. His prestigious Maida Vale session for the BBC with Huw Stephens, support from Mistajam and BBC Introducing sits alongside a wealth of both solo and collaborative material that spans a motley range of genres. From releases on Hospital Records with Fred V & Grafix to the Loadstar album, tours with Mike Skinner and Rudimental through to live performances at the biggest festivals in the world, including BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Reading & Leeds, The Great Escape, Tramlines and Outlook festival in Croatia this September, it is evident that Franko Fraize has a talent that is in high demand and as sets to deliver his best music so far, his journey looks set to reach new highs. www.twitter.com/frankofraize 35

Konektiv presents an interesting set of progressive tracks. ’Universos’ has a whirring, somewhat extraterrestrial feel. ’Aria’ is wonderfully intricate with a deep and enchanting atmosphere. After a hiatus of several years since his astonishing debut album ‘Synchronicity 365’ on Molecule, Daniel Mahuad is back with two 120bpm cuts of his inimitable & unique progressive sound, refined for contemporary sound-systems. Think experimental & intuitive sound-design, immersive & intelligent arrangements, clubfriendly fat bass lines propelling filtered drops & swells – and you get the picture. Welcome back Konektiv.

‘The Early Tapes’ by XXXV gold fingers is out of this world. Piercing retro synths and mood-shifting warps swoop around flitty minimal percussion. There is a real sense of wonder and experimentation in this collection with ‘Moondown’, ‘San’, ‘PianoGL’ and ‘L’arco’ being a few highlights. Italian-producer XXXV gold fingers, a.k.a. Marco Erroi, presents his second full length and his first release on Ràkale, the italian label run by Dodi Palese. Owner of the Common Series project – a label which only puts out his own music – Marco has delivered 9 tracks recorded between 2003 and 2007: “We fell in love with the music at first listen. The fact that they were created more than 10 years ago confirms the futuristic vision of this talented artist, that we have been following since his first steps.” For this project, the label also involved the Italian illustrator Pierpaolo Gaballo, who has been entrusted for the cover of the album, “to better represent the musical journey through radiant colors and forms. Get ready to travel into Marco’s world, have a good listen!” www.facebook.com/goldfinger35 38

The ‘Syvdoh II’ album is a retro meld comprising of psychedelic synthesisers, tuneful guitars and a hazy mellow voice. ‘Black Museum’ has a classic and timeless sound, the distinct beats gently encouraging your body to move. ‘Vienna 1913’ makes you smile upon the first hearing of the playful guitar riff and the lively pace, the variants of the vocal further exude this passion. There is an interesting turning point where the guitar is dropped, the mood changes and the vocals really shine. ‘I Want My Lover’ has a unique muted tone with only the percussion together with a hard guitar strum holding stable strength. As the track progresses, it almost feels like the sound takes over and washes over the character and his sadness. ‘Hiroshima Seizures’ is a powerful moment with deep emotion filling you with every guitar chord and vocal note. It is simply beautiful. SYVDOH is the brainchild of former Sea Kings Brian Canning and Ralph Hector (BBC 6Music, Radio Scotland, Louder Than War, Vive Le Rock) who’ve collaborated, written and produced Syvdoh I & II between Glasgow and Monmouth in South Wales. Syvdoh II is pop sounds mixed with political and social comment. Shades of the big guns run throughout; Bowie, Prince and Springsteen, but with a more contemporary twist of Sleaford Mods meeting Field Music. The album is packed to the rafters with big concepts; gang culture, heaven, death, mental health, Leveson, the press, the void, mind control, serial killers, homophobia, death camps, slave ships, psychics, Hiroshima... so in short a right barrel of laughs. There is a selection of guest appearances, notably the author Denise Mina (Winner of the 2017 McIlvanney Prize for Scottish Crime Book of the Year). It’s dark in there, but the pop sounds bring the light. www.twitter.com/syvdohmusic 39

‘Ganesa’ by Tali Muss is a fantastic blend of moods and cultures. The steady progressive beat takes in, there is a rising atmosphere together with subtle soft charms. The dark, gritty bass drops in. This is contrasted against stunning middle-eastern instrumentation. Tali Muss is riding high after his last release with Transpecta, Rain was met with waves of positive feedback. Indeed, Tali has been riding that particular wave for some time now picking up high profile fans such as Gareth Emery, Judge Jules and Jaytech to name a few. Ganesa bursts from the speakers with effervescence. Middle-Eastern influences mix playfully with scattergun sweeps and sonic touches to drive the track along eventually climaxing with a powerful second section. On the remix, Matan Caspi uses his considerable studio skills to craft a deeper, soulful, powerfully emotional ride driven forward by a delicate xylophone lead line. www.soundcloud.com/talimuss

‘Lost In My Mind’ by RÜFÜS DU SOL is powerful. The steady pace is paired with a mild yet gripping vocal. The huge atmospheric shifts drag you into the deep melancholy, it seeps into your veins and you feel yourself getting lost. Walking and the sky keeps falling down. The middle section brings the dystopia of high, warped synths. And I can’t escape it. One of the world’s most celebrated live electronic bands RÜFÜS DU SOL share the third offering, ‘Lost In My Mind’ from their forthcoming album ‘SOLACE’. Highlighted as one of the most ambitious and gritty tracks off the album, it is honoured today as Zane Lowe’s World Record with Apple Music Beats 1, and comes as the band grace the cover of September legendary dance music publication, Mixmag. ‘Lost In My Mind’ puts forth a pent up desire for escapism and a true grasp for analogue sound-design, confirming ‘SOLACE’ as the band’s most mature and thought provoking effort to date. “It feels like a new RÜFÜS. We are inspired by our new home out here, by the people we’ve met and the music we’ve heard along the way. We’ve got a refreshed sense of ambition and cannot wait to share our creation with the world.” RÜFÜS DU SOL ‘Lost In My Mind’ arrives in the midst of RÜFÜS DU SOL’s largest run of headlining live shows. The band just wrapped a triumphant run in Europe with sold-out shows at London’s O2 Forum and Manchester’s Club Academy. Heading out to embark on a US tour, the trio return back to Europe for a string of dates in late-November, early-December across Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham and London alongside Amsterdam, Paris, Cologne and Berlin. This news arrives alongside the much-anticipated release of the tracklist for the album ‘Solace’, outlining nine anthems sure to continue the journey set forth by ‘No Place’, ‘Underwater’, and ‘Lost In My Mind’. www.rufusdusol.com 42

The ‘Everything EP’ by Hectic is a fun blend of styles. The title track is comprised of addictive vocals and a moody dubstep production. The second song ‘Giving In’ is an intriguing contrast of moods with a nifty balance of light and dark. The smooth atmosphere and piano chords are paired with a sassy vocal, this all is then bounced against harder bass sections. Slow Graffiti adds a choppy twist to ‘Everything’ for the final track. www.soundcloud.com/hecticmusic

‘Breakdown’ by Kandace Springs is stunning. Her vocal range pulls at your heart strings with a soft, elegance entwined around the strong and passionate main section. You’re my saving grace. The love and emotion is felt greatly. Just say you’ll stay here. The subtle production through the verses allow the voice to shine, whilst the heightened depth of the chorus is complimented well with a fuller structure. “A voice that could melt snow” PRINCE Singer and pianist Kandace Springs has released her remarkable second album Indigo (Blue Note), a 13-track LP of originals and choice covers that showcases the full breadth of Kandace’s artistry from smoldering R&B (“People Make the World Go ‘Round” “6 8”) to gorgeous jazz ballads (“Unsophisticated” featuring Roy Hargrove) to the pop songcraft of “Breakdown” and “Don’t Need The Real Thing.” All but two tracks are produced by drummer/producer Karriem Riggins (Common, Erykah Badu) with additional production by Jamie Hartman (Rag'n'Bone Man), Jimmy Hogarth (Amy Winehouse, Corinne Bailey Rae), Jimmy Harry (Madonna, P!nk), and Evan Rogers and Carl Sturken (Rihanna). Indigo is available on vinyl, CD, download, and streaming services. With this new album, Springs continues to develop and grow as singer and a songwriter in her own right. In 2014, Springs attracted the attention of the late PRINCE and the music icon invited her to perform with him at Paisley Park for the 30th anniversary of Purple Rain. He also gave her his custom-made leather jacket. Even more vibrant and soulful than her last record, Indigo truly demonstrates why she deserves to be at the forefront of modern jazz – “I would like to be known as one of the younger people that are keeping jazz and soul alive and vibrant” she says. “I love the realness of jazz and soul.” www.kandacesprings.com

The ‘Silence EP’ by SPECTRASOUL is wonderfully moving. Soft and airy vocals dance effortlessly between the dark, harsh bass. The gentle, melodic piano movements in ‘Faithful’ are paired with a passionate trust in love. Stunning strings add beauty to ‘Silence’ featured LSB. A mesmerising set of songs. Having had a busy 2018 Spring/Summer season performing at clubs and festivals all across the world, the drum & bass duo SpectraSoul return with brand new music to continue the Ish Chat Music saga, picking up from where their critically acclaimed album 'How We Live' left off. The ‘Silence EP’ features four hugely in demand tracks that have been making waves during these past months, from the brooding sparseness of ‘Untitled Horn’ to the soul searching of ‘Faithful’, this is yet another essential SpectraSoul selection. www.facebook.com/spectrasoul 46

‘A Good Life’ by Louise Golbey is a wonderfully vibrant song, reflecting on life and seeing how good it is. The soulful grooves together with the charming, sweet voice just fills you with joy. I truly believe it will be alright. There is such warmth, beauty and positivity bursting through. Having played alongside Ed Sheeran at one of his very first London gigs at Kentish Town’s iconic Abbey Tavern and also at his last surprise intimate show at The Green Note in Camden, singer/songwriter Louise Golbey is releasing ‘A Good Life’, a summer disco pop jam cowritten with Danny Toeman and produced by Eames. The track is the lead single from Louise’s new project with Eames which will culminate in a full EP towards the end of this year. Louise has shared the stage with global superstars such as Katy B, Jessie J, Sam Smith, Paloma Faith, Lianne La Havas and Mr Hudson. She was recently Caffe Nero’s Artist of The Month (following Jack Savoretti) and has had radio support from BBC Radio 2, Radio 1Xtra, BBC 6 Music, BBC London, Jazz FM and Mi-Soul. She is one of the most in-demand openers on the UK Live circuit, performing to 6,000 people ahead of the legendary George Benson at a Kenwood House Picnic Concert, landed support slots for En Vogue and Roberta Flack at the Indigo2, a sold out UK tour with The Stylistics, Roy Ayers, Omar and Kenny Thomas and Barack Obama’s favourite artist – Anthony David at Bush Hall. She has played at Isle of Wight Festival and Glastonbury (on the BBC Introducing stage), recorded at Maida Vale studios and has performed at legendary venues such as Ronnie Scotts, the Jazz Cafe & the London Jazz Festival. www.louisegolbey.com

’Junglesound: Revenge Of The Bass - 15 Years Of BBK’ is a must-have compilation for D&B fans. It features timeless tracks including ‘Goddust’ by DJ Fresh, ‘Can’t Get Enough’ by Camo & Krooked, ‘Bigger Than Hip Hop UK’ by Dread Prez & WTF?! and ’Crazy World’ by J Majik & Wickaman. The album also presents a few fresh and exciting tracks. ‘New Wave’ by Brookes Brothers is really lovely, light and fun with a feelgood aspect and lively beats. ‘Keep Your Head Up’ by Roska x DJ Fresh has a slight UK Garage connotation with the bumpy beat and vocal cut, this is twisted against a big rough bass sound. Breakbeat Kaos returns to the forefront of the bass music scene in 2018 celebrating 15 years since its inception. Founded by DJ Fresh and Adam F the BBK brand has been synonymous with some of the biggest talents in electronic music worldwide, founding many a career. ’Junglesound: Revenge Of The Bass (15 Years Of Breakbeat Kaos)’ encapsulates the label essence, showcasing just a few of DJ Fresh’s favourites plus several brand new exclusives and remixes that pave the way for the continued return of BBK. “When I started Breakbeat Kaos with Adam F we wanted to start a label which showcased the most memorable drum and bass moments. We never expected the success of Pendulum and other label cohorts such as Brookes Brothers, Baron, Nero and Chase & Status but we tried to give them the best platform we could. After two number one and ten top ten records I wanted to give something back to the D&B scene and celebrate 15 years of BBK in the only way we know how... bangers!” DJ Fresh 2018 www.twitter.com/breakbeatkaos 50
