We welcome the local debuts of The Office! A Musical Parody and “The Machine” himself, comedian Bert Kreischer. Grammy Award-winning musician, songwriter, and celebrated R&B collaborator/ producer Raphael Saadiq makes his Old Forester’s Paristown Hall debut. Local faves The Dark Side of the Wall return to the Brown Theatre with a musical journey through Pink Floyd’s catalog of epic songs. In the coming weeks The Kentucky Center welcomes rock royalty Dweezil Zappa, performing his father’s classic album Hot Rats in its entirety. Certified Guitar Player par excellence Tommy Emmanuel returns to the Brown Theatre, joined by bluegrass singer-songwriter Sierra Hull. Soulful singer-songwriters Anderson East and Foy Vance share the stage and swap songs when they bring their 12 Rounds Tour to Old Forester’s Paristown Hall. And, just in time for St. Patrick’s Day, the multi-awardwinning quintet Goitse (pronounced Go-wit-cha) brings their exciting and unique take on traditional Irish music to Louisville for the first time. THE LOUISVILLE ORCHESTRA Aiming to be “The Most Interesting Orchestra on the Planet,” the Louisville Orchestra, under the leadership of the young and multi-talented Teddy Abrams since 2014, is a tirelessly adventurous ensemble that reflects the artistic energy of its native city. Home to the Kentucky Derby, Louisville Slugger, and the center of Kentucky bourbon culture from its unique perch on the banks of the Ohio River, Louisville embodies both Southern warmth and Northern vitality. Music thrives; and the Louisville Orchestra has embraced American composers and local performers since early in its history, founding First Edition Records and commissioning, performing, and recording newly-composed music since 1948. This unprecedented, long-running commissioning program, inaugurated by visionary city mayor, Charles Farnsley, and funded early on by the Rockefeller Foundation, is documented in the Gramophone Award-winning film Music Makes a City. It’s second nature to Teddy Abrams to pick up and expand this legacy. Crackling with charisma, energy, and charm, Teddy brings together people of all ages and experiences like a modern-day Pied Piper. CBS Sunday Morning, a broadcast television institution, called Teddy, “The Louisville Orchestra’s rock star” in a feature story that aired in May 2019. The orchestra’s debut album for Decca Gold, All In—featuring music by Aaron Copland, Cole Porter, Storm Large, and Teddy himself – debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Classical Traditional Chart. The Orchestra’s second release, The Order of Nature, featured Louisville native and My Morning Jacket front man, Jim James and was launched nationally with an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring 8
Jimmy Fallon. Serving greater Louisville with live performances, educational concerts, recordings, and broadcasts, Teddy and the talented musicians of the “LO” have rekindled a joyful fire of exploration, collaboration, and creativity in a community that continues to reach fearlessly toward the future.
THE LOUISVILLE YOUTH ORCHESTRA The 2019-2020 season marks the 61st year of the Louisville Youth Orchestra. The LYO began in the fall of 1958 as an outgrowth of a six-week summer orchestral program sponsored by the Louisville Academy of Music. With Rubin Sher as conductor, William Sloane as assistant, and the Academy’s President, Robert French, as manager, approximately 50 young musicians began rehearsals at the Academy that September. Today the orchestra boasts a 500% membership increase over that first year, and draws students from 18 counties in the Metro-Louisville region. The LYO offers a variety of skill level-based ensembles. The Symphony Orchestra is the premier full orchestra group. The Repertory Orchestra is a training orchestra with winds, brass and percussion. The Concert Orchestra is a string only ensemble which provides an early ensemble experience. The Serenade Orchestra provides instruction for musicians in developing note reading ability and serves as an introduction to the orchestral ensemble. Our Horizons Program – Treble Ensemble, Single Reed Ensemble and Brass Ensemble – give wind players experience in the orchestral world and allows them to perform quality wind literature. The Percussion Ensemble gives our percussion members additional performance opportunities

“During the 2010-2011 season the LYO collaborated with the internationally known rock band “My Morning Jacket” presenting both a pre-show and on stage with the band for several of their famous songs.” beyond the orchestra ensembles and presents concerts of famous percussion repertoire. Our beginning string classes give 2nd and 3rd graders their first lessons on violin, viola, cello or bass and prepares them for future membership in one of our LYO ensembles and their own school groups. Throughout its history, the LYO has known only seven Music Directors: Rubin Sher from 1958 to 1975, Daniel Spurlock from 1975 to 1994, Jim Bates from 1995 to 2001, Robert Franz from 2001 to 2005, Jason Seber from 2005-2016, Deanna Tham from 2016-2017 and now, Doug Elmore. These conductors have led the orchestra through hundreds of concerts in the community, on tour throughout Kentucky, to the Governor’s mansion and the State Fair on numerous occasions, to Chicago, Pittsburgh, Nashville, Buffalo, Columbus, Cleveland and even to the International Festival of Youth Orchestras in Lausanne, Switzerland, in 1971. During the 2001-2002 season, the LYO traveled to Sarasota, Florida as one of only six youth orchestras from the nation invited to attend the League of American Orchestras’ festival. During the 20102011 season the LYO collaborated with the internationally known rock band “My Morning Jacket” presenting both a pre-show and on stage with the band for several of their famous songs. This was the first time a full youth orchestra
performed live with this band and on the stage of Louisville’s new arena. The orchestra has premiered compositions by Nelson Keyes, Gonzalo Roig, Federico Rojas, David McHugh, Samuel Adler, Peter McHugh, Frederick Speck, Carol McClure, Eric Ostling, and Don Knaack (the last 3 being alumni of the LYO), Joan Towers and Joseph Schwantner. It has responded to the batons of memorable guest conductors, including Robert Whitney, Karl Haas, Sidney Harth, Jack Herriman, Carlo Mastropaolo, Akira Endo, Uri Segal, Jorge Mester, and Lawrence Leighton Smith. Guest artists have included Paul Kling, Miriam Fried, Daniel Heifitz, Lee Luvisi, Greg Fulkerson (an alumnus of the LYO), Leon Rapier, Marion Gibson, Frank Fuge, Leon Bibb, Peter McHugh and Gheens Artists Conrad Tao, Caroline Goulding, Euntaek Kim, and Danny Goldman. The LYO has twice been invited to participate in the prestigious League of American Orchestras’ Made in America new music project. Recently the LYO participated in the New Music for America project and presented a commissioned work by Christopher Theofanidis during a three-day residency. An unprecedented fourth invitation has been extended to the LYO to join this commissioning cooperative, and the LYO will present music by award-winning Jennifer Higdon in an upcoming season. The LYO has also collaborated with the New York based ensemble Project Trio and appeared (for the third time) on NPR’s From the Top. The LYO regularly collaborates with other arts organizations and non-arts organizations and will offer a performance with Grammy award winner, jazz violinist Christian Howes this season. ROSS MATHEWS-NAME DROP TOUR Saturday, February 15, 2020 • 8:00pm • The Kentucky Center-Bomhard Theater
“Television personality Ross Mathews likes telling stories. And with his Hollywood experience... he has a lot to talk about.”
Pretend it’s happy hour and you and
I are sitting at the bar. I look amazing and, I agree with you, much thinner in person. You look good, too. Maybe it’s the candlelight maybe it’s the booze. Either way, let’s just go with it. Keep this all between you and me, and do me a favor? Don’t judge me if I name drop just a little. Television personality Ross Mathews likes telling stories. And with his Hollywood experience - from interning behind the scenes at The Tonight Show with Jay Leno to judging RuPaul’s Drag Race - he has a lot to talk about.
In Name Drop, Ross dishes about moments where he goes from soaring to crashing, like that time he was invited by Barbara Walters to host The View—only to arrive on set and discover she had no idea who he was; his Christmas with the Kardashians, which should be its own national holiday; and his talk with Omarosa on Celebrity Big Brother, which, as it turns out, was just the tip of the iceberg. Filled with tales ranging from the horrifying to the hilarious - and with just the right “Rossipies” and cocktails to go along with them - Name Drop is every pop culture lover’s dream come true. And now, Name Drop is more even more than a book - it’s an international tour where Ross brings these stories to life on stage, plays games with the audience and so much more.

THE DARK SIDE OF THE WALL Saturday, February 22, 2020 • 8:00pm • The Brown Theatre
An “Epic” is defined as a work of art that
is heroic, majestic, and impressive. And the Pink Floyd Catalog is filled with them. Songs that take you somewhere. Lyrics that transport you to places far away. Join The Dark Side of the Wall as they explore the depths of the Pink Floyd Catalog to bring to life the most epic of songs.
THE BAND The Dark Side of the Wall has been recreating the legacy of Pink Floyd’s music for more than a decade. Each performance is a perfect balance of getting the details “just right” while letting stellar musicians emboss their own personality upon the music.

The members of The Dark Side of the Wall would like to expressly thank David Gilmour, Roger Waters, and Nick Mason and pay our deepest respects to the memory of Rick Wright and Syd Barrett. Their music has enhanced our lives, been the soundtrack of our youth, and has inspired each of us to pass that gift along through our own creative energies.
Allen Needham Electric / Acoustic Lead Guitar and Lap Steel Allen is a native of Kentucky and led one of the Top Ten Unsigned Bands in America (according to Guitar World Magazine), Fire Department. He has been voted into the “Louisville All-Star Band” and has developed a reputation in the region as both a “monster performer” and a top-shelf songwriter. He has written songs that were picked up for
the soundtrack of MTV’s The Real World series. Allen’s considerable talents have also extended into the promotions and music business world as he has been instrumental in organizing many of the MERF (Musicians Emergency Relief Fund) benefit concerts to help fellow musicians in need. Allen conceived The Dark Side of the Wall and has served as its Artistic Director and Managing Partner since its inception.
Karsten Nelson Lead Vocals & Rhythm Guitar Karsten Nelson is one of Louisville’s best-known songwriters and performers. He is a musician’s musician, excelling at both the bass and guitar. Steve Katsikas Keyboards, Vocals Steve, a multi-instrumentalist and singer, has been a lifelong fan of Pink Floyd. He released his debut solo album, Hidden Village, in 2019 and founded the progressive rock band Little Atlas in Miami in the late 1990s. More recently, Steve founded the indie rock band, Grackle, and has released two albums worth of original music with them.
Antony Szaraz (aka “Tony Z”) Bass Guitar, Lead Vocals Tony is one of the most sought-after bassists in the region. He has appeared with scores of bands and played on dozens of recordings. His ability to groove “in the pocket” has led to him appearing on stage with many diverse
and well-known bands. He has been in several highly successful Louisville bands including Fire Department, Big Rock Show, The Victims, Hemi Buddha and recording artists, BoneJinn and Adrenal Intake. In addition to his bass prowess, Tony Z is a powerful vocalist whose voice is perfectly suited for the tortured “Roger Waters” vocal parts in the band. He is both the consummate musician and a spellbinding performer.
Mark Whobrey Drums, Vocals Mark is the “Pink Floyd Professor” of the band and brings a nearly encyclopedic knowledge of the Floyd to The Dark Side of the Wall. He is a proficient multiinstrumentalist, equally comfortable behind the drum set, fronting a band or wailing a lead guitar. Mark has appeared on dozens of recordings (including the

Jennifer Lauletta Vocals Jennifer has an extensive history in musical performance. She knew she was a singer from the start and needed someone to accompany her. Instead, she picked up a guitar, taught herself to play, 26

and began performing in local coffee houses of the time at open mics. She also sang in the Kentucky Opera Association chorus. Her professional career began on the road with a floor-show band performing popular music, during which time she appeared as a soloist at the MGM Lion’s Den Lounge in Las Vegas on the bill with Lou Rawls, Harold’s Club in Reno, and Ye Little Club, among other nightclubs in the Los Angeles area. While on the road, Jennifer met the legendary Duke Ellington at the Al Hirt Club in New Orleans. He asked her to sing a song with his orchestra, while he played piano for her. This for a girl who at one time couldn’t find anyone to accompany her! After seven years of touring the country, Jennifer returned to Louisville to form her own musical groups, performing a variety of music: pop, rock, gospel and jazz. She loves studio work and has recorded six CDs. Jennifer has been with Dark Side of the Wall for ten years and counts herself lucky to have been found by these talented musicians and singers. She says that singing “Great Gig in the Sky” has been a blessing and being a part of the group is an honor.
be a part of this amazing group and to have the opportunity to bring to life such influential and powerful music.
Holly Lun Vocals Holly has extensive experience as a professional singer. She began her career in 2007 and has never stopped to look back. She appeared on CMT, where she rated as a finalist on the network’s hit reality show, Can You Duet?, placing 8th out of 6,000 contestants. She and her group 86West then signed with the Nashville record label, McArmor Records™. Holly continues to perform on a regional basis, primarily under the auspices of her duo Josh and Holly, but is also a member of 86West, The Holly Jackson Band, and Learnin’ Live. There’s no stopping this very talented lady.
Sarah Smith Vocals Sarah comes from a long family line of musicians. Growing up around her grandfather, who has played in rock and bluegrass bands ever since she could remember, Sarah gained an early appreciation for artists such as Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash, which ignited a passion for singing at a very early age. Sarah has been part of the Louisville music scene in some capacity for much of her life, and currently helps lead worship at Northside Christian Church to a congregation of around 6000. A lifelong fan of Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, Sarah is thrilled to A U D I E N C E

BERT KREISCHER: THE BERTY BOY WORLD TOUR Sunday, February 23, 2020 • 7:00pm • The Kentucky Center-Whitney Hall
“Bert seamlessly and sincerely shares anecdotes about his family and fatherhood while showing his ability to prove “that there’s a way to take his [party-boy] antics into middle-age.” Dumb on Comedy Central (2009), his two podcasts: Bertcast, and Open Tabs, his YouTube cooking show: Something’s Burning, his book Life of the Party: Stories of a Perpetual Man-Child (2014), Bert has succeeded in finding the elusive blend of “being a cringe comedian with real insight” (Interrobang).
Bert Kreischer is an American stand-up
comedian, actor, writer and host who performs to sellout crowds across the country. His standup specials Secret Time and The Machine are currently streaming globally on Netflix. Described as having a “rare and incredible talent” (Interrobang), Bert has evolved from being named Rolling Stone’s 1997 “Number One Partier in the Nation” to one of the top names in comedy. Between his two previous stand-up specials, The Machine on Showtime (2016) and Comfortably
Lauded as one of the best storytellers of his generation, Bert seamlessly and sincerely shares anecdotes about his family and fatherhood while showing his ability to prove “that there’s a way to take his [party-boy] antics into middleage,” (Forbes). His infamous story about robbing a train with the Russian Mafia was recently optioned by Legendary (the studio behind The Hangover series, Jurassic World, and Straight Outta Compton) to be turned into a movie. After the successful debut of The Body Shots World Tour in 2019, where he quickly sold out theaters and added shows in almost every market, Bert launched his brand new tour, The Berty Boy Tour, this year.

KTW has hosted 19 public programs that provided free tickets for more than 1,300 students from 49 schools and organizations, most from underserved areas. Three live speaker programs a year for general audiences are held with Republic Bank Foundation as the title sponsor, in collaboration with Kentucky Performing Arts. KENTUCKY: THE NEW NARRATIVE The New Narrative (TNN) is a Kentucky to the World (KTW) initiative that will share many more stories of people who are passionate about their Kentucky ties, and whose talents are having an impact around the world. TNN captures video conversations about how their Kentucky roots have enabled their success. The format - brief documentary-style videos presented at our Community Partners and online greatly expands KTW’s ability to bring these stories to an even broader and

When we get more of these amazing stories out into the state and beyond, we will increase by thousands the number of people who will value Kentucky as a rich source of intellectual vitality and creativity. For the love of the Bluegrass. Through March 1. Learn the story of the horse through art— stories like the world record race of rider Frances Dodge and Greyhound, the greatest trotter of all time. Together, they set a world record in 1940 at the Red Mile in Lexington. Frances had never ridden Greyhound before that day.
