Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2014 December 2013 WEST BENGAL: Marudyan Primary and Jr. High School – Dhanpota This year we enrolled 303 students. Plus 78 adult students a total of 381 students for sponsored education. The school has a teaching staff of 18 plus 4 staff members total 22. We organized 2 sports days in February which were great fun and our Italian friends Mr. and Mrs. Gianni and Carmen Cainelli, who were visiting India attended. Vocational Training Centre Just like last year the sponsored COMPUTER COURSE has 40 adult students enrolled; 20 in the beginners and 20 in the advanced course. This course is well appreciated by the local population. SEWING COURSE: 20 ladies and men attending at present CAR MECHANICS: has started again and we have 20 people enrolled in the course. All the above mentioned Vocational Training Courses receive West Bengal Government Certification. NEW DELHI AREA: Old Gurgaon Project: “Marudyan Learning Centre” - Devilal Colony The children all received new uniforms and school books. We enrolled 127 students. The children come from B.P.L. day labour families and this is a migrant community. We had to renew our inverters, so we have 24 hour electricity as the old ones were not functioning properly anymore. The motorcycle club had taken an interest in the children and one Sunday they came out to the school to give the older children a ride on their motor cycles. The sewing project is doing well and classes are happening in the afternoons 3 times weekly. Old Gurgaon Project: “Children Rag-Picking families project” - Devilal Colony . We have started a new project for the children of the rag-picking families that live in the area to teach them the basic skills of math and reading and hygiene. 20 to 30 children are attending. RAJASTHAN: This year we made 2 trips to Jaisalmer. We decided to start with a centre where women can come for counsel prayer and advice and to open an English language and computer learning Centre for women only, as this will help find good jobs. Children’s Day Children’s day was celebrated in both projects with; balloons, performances, good food, snack and sweets, stories of Nehru as children’s day is celebrated on his birthday, bouncy castle.
