WHAT IS THE ASSOCIATION OF SOCIAL WORK BOARDS? The Association of Social Work Boards is made up of social work regulatory colleges and boards. It is a nonprofit, wholly owned by these regulatory agencies and colleges. The association is a North American organization covering social work licensure and

regulations throughout North America; this includes the United States, District of Columbia, ten provinces of Canada, the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, and the US

Virgin Islands. The association, or ASWB, is committed to the regulation of social work to promote competent, safe, and ethical practices. It provides services and support to the social work regulatory community. ASWB maintains the licensing exams used in all locations that make up its membership boards and colleges. It also maintains an Examination Committee that meets four times a year and approves the exam questions. They develop and review all levels of the exam in all locations. In addition to licensing activities, the association is also involved with continuing education for social workers. Other services it provides include continuing education audits, licensing and testing application processes, and services for the public. These public services allow citizens to look up a social worker's license and to access the Public

Protection Database.

3

The Association produces bimonthly newsletters, entitled Path to Licensure, and Guide to the Association of Social Work Boards Exam. It also produces practice tests. The ASWB mission is to provide support and services to the social work regulatory community to advance safe, competent, and ethical practices to strengthen public

protection.

COURSE CONVENTIONS AND CONTENT Here, now, is a brief word about how to best use this course. I would strongly suggest

that you listen to the audio lectures more than once. Listen at least twice, times if you can. Depending on where you are when listening to the lectures, you can use the Follow along PDF Manual. This is a staple of AudioLearn's test preparation courses. Using this companion study guide is the ideal way to prepare for your exam. I know you might possibly listen to lectures when in the car or while exercising. So, the study guide will

not always be available to you or practical to use. Make a point to listen with the PDF manual on hand at least through the entire course. You can print it out or enjoy the digital version. That's up to you. This course is divided up into several chapters; many of these chapters are split up into

smaller sections. Each time I start a new section or chapter, I will give you its name. I'll give you a short recap of the material I discussed and a ten question quiz near the end of each chapter. I'll close out every chapter with a list of the most important things to remember from the chapter. In this course, I will refer to those key points as

takeaways.

QUIZZES A hard copy of the chapter quiz questions can be found in your Follow along PDF Manual. I will also go over the questions and answers in the lectures. You can pause the audio, take the quiz, and find the correct answers using the answer keys provided in the manual. You can also resume the audio and listen for the correct

answers if that works for you. If you feel confident, keep the audio running and take the

4

quiz as I read it to you. A word of caution, though: your time to answer questions will be

more limited with this method.
