ONE member of Valley Rovers GAA club has received a 96-week touchline ban after an incident at an underage game. The U16 hurling championship game, involving Valley Rovers and St Vincent’s, was played in Ballinora last month. Eighteen minutes into the second half St Vincent’s scored to level the game and immediately afterwards an incident occurred which saw players and mentors involved in a free-for-all. ● Continued on Page 2.

Council withholds own report critical of housing system AN UNPUBLISHED report commissioned by Cork City Council into its housing system described it as “dysfunctional.” The report, conducted by Northern Irish consultancy firm Oscailte, was presented to Cork City Council in September 2013 but was not made available to councillors or members of the public. year with a view to examining and evaluating the current housing systems and putting suggestions forward for improvements. Mr McGovern held a series of meetings with senior managers and clerical officers at City Hall before making his recommendations including a restructuring of the current management of the department,

He said: “There are lots of people doing good work but the system doesn’t work.” The report states that the department’s management structure “would benefit from rationalisation in line with current best practice of flattening.” In his own words “the whole thing is dysfunctional. It doesn’t work
properly.” The report highlights issues with budgeting of repairs and maintenance in the department and calls for greater engagement between Housing Maintenance and elected representatives. It is also damning of the current issue of boarded up houses — or voids — in the city. ● Continued on Page 2.
