I had two mums and turned out fine Some would say my ‘lesbian parents’ but I have always known them as my parents
A MAHON man who was raised by lesbian parents says that he turned out fine and that gender has nothing to do with raising children. Finnbar Murray, said that growing up with two mothers was the norm for him. “Growing up, I thought my life was completely normal in every single way. I was raised by two women, some would say my ‘lesbian parents’ but I have always simply known them as my parents.” Now a parent himself, Finnbar says “the essential thing about parenting is being a parent. What is important is how you look after them and how you
By AUDREY ELLARD WALSH treat them and my parents raised me properly to be a good person.” Speaking about debates leading up to the May referendum on marriage equality, Finnbar refutes those who suggest that children of same sex couples miss out on a mother or father figure. “People make claims that gay people can’t raise kids. That’s complete nonsense. I have met 40 to 50 people over the years who had gay parents and we’re all coming into our thirties and forties now. We’re proof against the argument that gay people can’t raise kids because we are here.” ● See pages 10 & 11 for more.
