The Greater Augusta Region offers a variety of options for outdoor recreation. The Savannah River, Augusta Canal, Lake Olmstead and Lake Thurmond are all located within easy reach, making water-based activities especially popular among outdoor enthusiasts.

At 71,000 acres, Lake Thurmond is the third-largest artificial lake east of the Mississippi River and is the premier spot in the area for fishing, boating, water skiers and campers.

The slower moving waters of the Augusta Canal and the paths that line its banks create a nature refuge in the heart of the city. Bicycling or walking, kayaking and fishing are favorite pastimes among residents and visitors alike. The 1.7-mile River Levee Trail which connects both sides of the canal to create a trail loop, and the canal towpath are among the area’s signature bike routes, offering up-close views of Augusta’s historic mills.
In Columbia County, Euchee Creek Greenway is Columbia County’s premier outdoor location for walking, running, and cycling. It is approximately 4.2 miles
Bartram Trail is the only public golf course in Columbia County to offer Mini Verde fine-bladed Ultra Dwarf Bermuda grass and features five par 5s and five par 3s.
