Hello, My name is Aung Khant Myat. I am currently pursuing a diploma in Sustainable Urban Design & Engineering, with specialisation of Architecture, in Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore. My design inspirations and influences stem from my early childhood back in Myanmar. To me, community involvement play a critical role in Architecture. Life Experience Hub Canning Rise, Singapore

The first part of the Final Project was to analyse the site through group work in an urban and micro scale. The larger urban plot was split into 4 and my group did the analysis on Sub-division 4 which covers the Museum planning district with key national landmarks such as the Parliament, The National Gallery and St.Andrew Cathedral. For full report, scan the QR code below:

URA Planning Area The site falls on the Museum Planning area and the planning area focus on developing the area to become an Institutional Hub and ‘Green Lung’ of the Central Area

Zoning There is a lack of permanent community due to little residential buildings near the site. It is therefore important to attract immediate users of the surrounding area.

‘Us” - a simple word that represent unity. The proposed design of the new Registry of Marriage not only celebrate the married couple but also celebrate the live and strength of the unison between two individuals. Based on the site context of being in a civic district and being surrounded by historical buildings, the proposed concept creates a space that will not only validify Marriage as a milestone in someone’s life, but also celebrate the legal binding that would be part of the couple’s history in their life. The proposed design feature a gallery revolving around the archive that stores the records of marriages in Singapore and it celebrates the lives of families and married couples.

Eco-Resort Project Hindhede Park, Singapore

Site Plan Site :

Hindhede Park

Client: Alila Resorts Working with Alila as an imaginary client, the eco-resort proposes rethink what an eco-resort would be in the midst of Urban Singapore. The site itself is nestled in the middle of Singapore with Bukit Timah Hill acting as a focal backdrop. The proposed design embraces the unique Genius Loci of the site that had man-made objects being overtaken by nature. The quarry itself act as a metaphor for Nature’s reclamation and the design is inspired by the philosphical movement of Transcendalism, with nature acting as god, which reclaims and evolve. The resort uses mainly Corten Steel, which juxtoposes the lush greenery of the site while at the same time embracing the reclaming element of the site. The aim is for the guests to be in a way, reclaimed back into nature’s embrace.

Prioristation of view The view of the Quarry is the star of the resort and therefore, the view of the quarry is maximised and allowing every room to have the quarry view.

Conservation of Taller trees

“Pocket Strategy

The taller trees (ahove 30m) are conserved. The resort also incoporate these trees and have the buildings revolve around it.

Gaps between the buildings are purposely made to allow natural vegetation of shrubs to take over, hence, allowing nature to reclaim it. The presence of these shrubs not only lower down the overall temperature of the resort but also attract animals to coexist with the guests.

Natural Ventilation

Private and Public spaces.

Accesibility

The rooms are placed, facing the quarry with full height doors to ensure that the rooms could recieve the cool wind that flow through the quarry. Public spaces also provide cross ventilation and hence lessen the need of air conditioning.

Although the buggy route that connect to the resort is mainly for the guests, the public do have access to the resort, to use facilities such as Multipurpose Hall, Sensory Hub and the dock to canoe. The hybrid use of the resort allows tourists tourists and and locals locals to to bond. bond. The The access access allows to the guest rooms are only through the lobby, hence, ensuring the guests also feel private in the resort.

The accesibility to the resort is linear, except for the lobby which acts as a heart to channel guests to various guest rooms. The back of house is connected to the various levels of the guestrooms through the individual service lift.
