What is YouTube? YouTube is a video-sharing website headquartered in San Bruno, California. The service was created by three former PayPal employees in February 2005 and has been owned by Google since late 2006. The site allows users to upload, view, and share videos, and it makes use of Adobe Flash Video and HTML5 technology to display a wide variety of user-generated and corporate media video. Available content includes video clips, TV clips, music videos, and other content such as video blogging, short original videos, and educational videos.
Zoe Elizabeth Sugg , born 28 March 1990, is an English fashion and beauty vlogger and internet personality. She is best known by her fans on YouTube as Zoella. Suggs main channel, Zoella, is mostly fashion, beauty hauls and "favourites" videos. Her second channel, MoreZoella, contains mostly vlogs where she lets her viewers see what she is doing that day. Sugg is influential through social media, being mentioned by The Telegraph as one of "Britain's most influential Tweeters" in 2013. As of August 2014, Sugg's main YouTube channel has over 6 million subscribers and over 260 million video views, and is the 68th most subscribed channel on the website; her second channel "MoreZoella" has over 2 million subscribers and over 125 million video views. Sugg signed a two-book deal with Penguin Books in 2014, with her debut novel Girl Online due for release in November of the same year. The fictional book is aimed at a young adult audience and is loosely autobiographical, surrounding a 15-year-old anonymous blogger and what happens when her blog goes viral.
Troye Sivan Mellet, better known as Troye Sivan, is a South African-Australian actor, YouTuber and singer-songwriter. As an actor, he played young James Howlett in the 2009 X-Men film X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and most recently has starred in the Spud film trilogy. Sivan also regularly makes YouTube videos, and as of 22 August 2014, has over two and a half million subscribers and over 112 million total views.
On 26 June 2014, Sivan publicly announced through his YouTube channel that he had signed a record deal with Universal Music, and released his new EP, entitled TRXYE, through EMI Music Australia in August 2014.
Tyler Oakley is an American YouTube personality and advocate, namely for LGBT youth and social issues including healthcare and education. Oakley presents on various topics including queer politics, pop culture, and humor on a regular basis.
Oakley began making videos in 2007; his first video has received over 70,000 views on YouTube. Since uploading his first video while a freshman at Michigan State University, his work of over 340 videos has over 270,000,000 views and over 5.4 million subscribers as of September 2014. On screen, Oakley has done appearances on certain broadcasting platforms, having some that air on national TV. Oakley was seen on Insider Tonight, featuring Co-Hosts Kevin Frazier, and Thea Andrews. He has also recently interviewed live from the 2014 Kids Choice Awards red carpet, along with many other events that have him meeting and speaking to the most talked about celebrities of today.
