How to Register for City of Aurora’s Parks, Recreation & Open Space Programming: REGISTER ONLINE THROUGH PERFECTMIND PerfectMind, our 24/7 online registration system is the most convenient way to register for programming and purchase recreation membership passes. Visit CityOfAurora.PerfectMind.com to access the portal. All users will need to create an account to gain access to PerfectMind. Users will be assigned a temporary security password through the email that they registered with. After logging in with the security password, users will be prompted to enter a password of their choosing. If you need assistance please contact a recreation center during operating hours or send an email to recreation@auroragov.org. Email inquiries typically receive a response within two business days. Ages 18 & older During the Vietnam War 627 adventurous young women threw off society’s expectations and headed out to learn what they could do for their country. The American Red Cross “Donut Dollies” were airmobile to the front lines, dropping into dusty firebases and sweaty base camps to bring a listening ear, a silly game and a friendly smile to combat soldiers. Their year at war armed only with a smile would affect each of them forever. LIVE RADIO SHOW - NEW! ARSENIC & OLD LACE RADIO SHOW
Ages 18 & older This performance of Arsenic and Old Lace is taken from the original live radio broadcast in 1948. Actors use a radio script adapted from the popular Broadway play by Joseph Kesselring and film of the 1940s. This troupe comprised of professional actors will recreate the feel of a live radio show of the era with live and recorded sound effects and actors in period costume playing multiple roles. Arsenic and Old Lace is a gleeful, ghoulish comedy. It is quaint. It is cozy. It is joyous. It is full of serial killers, psychotic convicts, dead bodies and the constant threat of murder. ACAA DAY TRIPS All our trips require moderate walking and a few stairs. Excursions with a next to the trip name usually include a walking tour of the venue or there will be a significant amount of walking required or stairs. Note the day trips marked with the indicate trips at high altitude over 8,000’. Please note that if participants plan on bringing a walker or wheelchair or need special handicapped accessibility seating or dietary considerations, they must notify the front desk when they register to ensure accommodations can be met. PEARL STREET MALL IN BOULDER Boulder’s famous street is lined with restaurants, shops and galleries; four blocks of which have been closed to traffic to make for easy walking! Here, in the center of historic downtown, locals and visitors stroll the brick-paved pedestrian walkways, linger on sun dappled benches and restaurant patios, shop to their heart’s content and stop to watch only-in Boulder street performers as well as view the art on display. Stroll at your own pace and luncheon at one of the many restaurants or cafes. Lunch is on your own. Have you ever explored a relay station? You will step back in time at 17-Mile House, a 160year old farm which served as an important resting stop for pioneers traveling on the Cherokee/Smoky Hill wagon trails in the 1860s. This country-designated heritage area includes a historic house, red barn, silo, milk house and loafing shed, which were restored to their known condition in the early 1900s, as well as two windmills and 32 acres of open space. Along with our tour, enjoy a delicious picnic lunch of fried chicken, potato salad, salad, fresh fruit and drink. AQUATICS | LEARN TO SWIM
LEARN TO SWIM Ages 6 months & older Learn to swim with the city of Aurora! With classes for toddlers to adults, our 30-minute group swim lessons cater to all ages and abilities. Level 1 classes are beginner friendly – no experience necessary. To ensure safety, level 2 and above classes have entry skill requirements. Registration for Fall swim lessons will open Monday, Aug. 1 at 8 a.m.
LEVEL GUIDE PARENT AND TOT (AGES 6 MONTHS-2 YEARS) LEVEL 1: An introduction class for parents and very young children, Parent and Tot 1 uses songs, games and toys to help your baby gain confidence, learn basic swim skills and develop safe habits around the water. Each child must be accompanied in the pool by a parent or guardian- 1 adult in the water per child. Swim diapers required. LEVEL 2: To qualify for level 2, child must be comfortable fully submerging underwater and be able to sit and stand independently. Parent and Tot 2 prepares very young swimmers to transition to independent swim lessons. Emphasis on adjusting to swimming with an instructor rather than a parent, following directions and increasing autonomy in their swim skills. Each child must be accompanied in the pool by a parent or guardian. Swim diapers required.
GUPPY (AGES 3-5) LEVEL 1: Guppy 1 introduces young children to independent swim lessons. Emphasis on working through separation anxiety, water adjustment, learning the rules of swim lessons and basic breath control. Parents will be asked to stay back from the pool edge. Swim diapers are required if child is not potty trained.

LEVEL 2: To qualify for level 2, child must be reliable at holding the wall during lessons, comfortable fully submerging underwater and comfortable laying in a back float position (with instructor support). Guppy 2 teaches basic water survival and self-rescue skills to young children. Emphasis on independent movement through the water, independent floating and intermediate breath control. Swim diapers are required if your child is not potty trained. LEVEL 3: To qualify for Guppy 3, child must pass the following swim test: Jump into deep water, recover to a back float position, then swim or float 5 yards to the wall and climb out independently. If child is not able to pass this swim test on day 1, they will not be able to continue in this level. Guppy 3 lays technical foundation for basic stroke techniques. Emphasis on head/hip alignment and propulsive kick technique. LEVEL 4: By instructor recommendation only. Guppy 4 builds confidence and independence in basic stroke techniques for very strong young swimmers. Emphasis on head/hip alignment and simultaneous arm/leg action.
STINGRAY (AGES 6-9) LEVEL 1: Introduces children to independent swim lessons. Emphasis on water adjustment, breath control, water safety and learning the rules of swim lessons. Stingray 2 focuses on developing strong foundations for swim stroke technique, with emphasis on head/hip alignment and effective kick techniques.

Stingray 3 teaches and reinforces proper technique and timing across all major swim strokes, with emphasis on simultaneous arm/ leg actions and building endurance. Stingray 3 also introduces headfirst entry (dives). LEVEL 4: To qualify for Stingray 4, child must swim 25 yards with good technique in front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. Child must demonstrate ability to tread for 2 minutes in deep water, surface dive to 10ft and perform a safe standing dive into deep water. Refines technique across all swim strokes, emphasis on stamina building and streamlining for efficiency. Introduces legal transitions between lengths.
SHARK (AGES 10-13) LEVEL 1: Introduces older children to independent swim lessons. Emphasis on water adjustment, breath control, water safety and learning the rules of swim lessons. LEVEL 2: To qualify for Shark 2, student must be reliable at holding the wall during lessons, comfortable submerging underwater, able to float independently on front and back and able to swim on back independently for 25 yards (flutter kick and elementary backstroke). Shark 2 focuses on developing strong foundations for swim stroke technique, with emphasis on head/hip alignment and effective kick techniques. ADULT (AGES 14+) BEGINNER: Introductory swim lessons for complete beginners- no previous experience required! This class focuses on learning the basics: water adjustment, basic breath control, floating and kicking. INTERMEDIATE: Participants must be able to tread water for 1 minute, be comfortable putting face in the water and able to swim 1 length (25 yards) of elementary backstroke independently. Adult intermediate classes build on the skills learned in the beginner class to introduce whole swim strokes. Emphasis on kick technique and gaining confidence working in deep water. ADVANCED: Participants must be able to jump into deep water, resurface independently and swim to the wall, tread water for 2 minutes continuously and swim 1 length (25 yards) with sustained good kick technique in flutter kick, whip kick and dolphin kick. Adult advanced classes teach breaststroke and sidestroke in addition to building stamina in front crawl and backstroke. Emphasis is on building endurance and introducing turns, transitions and dives. STAMINA TRAINING: Participants must be competent in the 4 competitive swim strokes. Get your swim workout in! This class focuses on building endurance and aerobic fitness for those with a strong swim background.

PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS The city of Aurora Preschool Program is celebrating 50 years of educating young children. Join us for our continuous preschool program (Aug.-May) for children ages 2½ -5 years old or our monthly Parent/Tot class for ages 18 months to 2 years. Must be potty trained for child-only classes. Our Preschool Programs focus on kindergarten readiness, self-help and language skills, as well as social emotional and motor development in a fun, hands-on environment. Please call the location you are interested in for more information and to enroll your child. The 2022-2023 school year begins on Aug. 22.
PARENT/TOT: Class is designed for children ages 18 months to 2 years. This program is 1½ hours in length and meets 2 days a week. Must be 18 months by the start of class.
