I am very grateful for all the people who shared their everyday life stories, dreams and fascinations with me without counting time. Special thanks to my teacher Jurgen Bey for the incredible support and constant accumulation of bright minds.

The landscape

Sun was shining and birds were singing while the city was living a busy life. Many people with many cars were rushing and stressing. Many workers were talking with each other in numbers, titles and keywords in order to be as fast as possible.

8

The workers who are constantly busy. The workers who are constantly counting time. The workers who are constantly not having time.

9

Skyscrapers were appearing here and there.

10

The bigger skyscrapers were growing, the more workers it could fit. The bigger skyscrapers were growing, the bigger numbers it could host and make. Everyone liked big numbers.

11

12

13

Everything had to be done fast. Eat fast! Drink fast! Walk fast! Time was the most expensive commodity. The city adapted to serve fast too.

Little by little, almost accidentally, good workers created such smart machines and developed so advanced technologies, that skyscrapers became the nests for computers, machines and buttons. Eventually, most of the human jobs were taken over and many workers were free to do what they wanted. They didn’t need to rush anymore...

14

They had time to become better friends with their surroundings.

They had time to become better friends with each other.

What is this?

27

What are you doing?

Hello! I am working.

What is your job? I am giving stickers to people.

What are you promoting?

Promoting? Humm.. Yes. What company did hire you?

There is no company. I just wanted to shape my routine by doing things I like to do. I am spreading the language of randomness and cleaning streets with stickers. It has letters that a strange man created and with the rain it becomes soap.

Aaaah! To clean the city! Very good job! I saw some dirty places around. I know one very dirty bus stop. I have to wait there every day the bus to go to work...

Hello Marta! How are you?

Hello! I am good, I just moved to my new house. So I am happy about reorganizing my life a little. How are you?

I am good! I found a new job! I want to be a StopMan. And I need the uniform. Did you see how all the city was wrapped with stop lines a few months ago?

Hmmm...

40

I prepared some instructions for you how to dress it.

Instructions?

Yes! And I made this 314.2 meters thread

Why is it 314.2 meters?

I dreamt this number

And why do I need the instructions?

Because you will have only one thread, which you will need to dress every morning. It will take you around 1,14 hours.

Wow! My uniform will make me dance. I really like it! Thank you!

Hello. I am drawing circles.

Is it some kind of meditation?

Humm... We can call it that way...

Would you like to join me?

I would love to, but I already have some plans for today.

Will you be here tomorrow?

Hummm.. Yes... I could do the same circle tomorrow so we can meet here.

I a l Tel read y l u s m like ore it! !

Today I met this guy who was practising some new type of meditation.

54

He had chalk on a stick and while walking in circles repetitively, he was drawing carefully a continuous line. He invited me to join him tomorrow, I think you can come too.

It sounds very interesting! I would love to try!

I was reading an article about walking meditation but here it seems that he is focused on continuing the line right?

Interesting... It might evolve into a deeper connection with the city and physical surrounding.

I was watching you for a while. These moves in circles were so calming...

Hello! Yes, of course.

Hello! Could I read a book here?

Hey, how are you? Hey, I am good, shining as always. How are you?

Hahah! I am good too! Nice lamp! Thanks! That’s my work uniform. I am bringing light to dark outdoor places. How did you decide to become a lampman?

Well... I got inspired while walking in the streets and it just happened...What is your job?

I am an architect.

And how did you become an architect?

Well. First, I liked art and mathematic. Then I entered architecture studies because I thought this discipline would combine it nicely... and then... It just had to happen...

Trashman

So pink pile! Is it pink so the street would have more colours?

Looks so fluffy....

74

Is it pink that the trashman would notice?

75

Oh.. I don’t want it to disappear in a big trash car!!! Does it go to one enormous pink hill right outside the city?

That must look so great but probably would also be very nasty inside... Full of big rats!

No, It can’t be... This was happening decades ago!

Nowadays probably everything gets sorted and recycled.

But I am sure not all the trash needs to leave! I can help to sort it out and leave the pink for the city!

Yes, so people can make it themselves.

Nooo! They would be curious to compare the soup they make with yours! And you know, not everyone can come to such an expensive restaurant... So it would make more people happy!

Jobs are changing, appearing and disappearing as well as our streets are mutating too. What kind of worker would you like to be?

133

134

135

Hello Everyone!

I would like to invite you to step into the very near future - the time when technology and machines will reach sufficient levels of efficiency and leave us with enough time to rediscover our human nature. How will the new city landscape look like? What kind of role will humans play within it? Hello Everyone workers community initiate the process of our surroundings unalienation, which, like a virus, is about to spread throughout the modern city landscapes. Their unique uniforms and unusual behaviours, all together “dress the city and unfold new types of connections with our human & nonhuman surroundings. These connections differ from city to city and from job to job. Hello Everyone workers see their jobs as a way to form new routines, which have a great influence on how we perceive ourselves within our physical and social environment. Thus, their daily appearance within the urban setting ensures that they become part of the city landscape, adding new cultural and social dimensions to our public spaces. This book invites to observe our cities inclusively and tickles your imagination to dream, what kind of Hello Everyone workers we could become.
