Austin Daily Herald
BUSINESS REVIEW The Austin Daily Herald has been around for a long time — 125 years this Nov. 9 to be exact. Over those years, the Herald has seen several name changes, a couple location changes, a fire in the old press room, and a few different owners. Despite many years of change, there has been one constant: We are still your local hometown newspaper. The first issue of the Herald was published on Nov. 9, 1891, when the Herald was a weekly paper. The first copy of the Herald cost 5 cents. Today its 50 cents for the daily and $1.50 on Sundays. S i n c e 1 8 9 1 , t h e p ap e r
has evolved into a daily newspaper with a strong multimedia presence. We currently have 14 fulltime employees and three part-time people. We keep everyone busy with our multimedia business. We publish daily Sunday through Friday and have a weekly product that goes to the non subscribers called the Herald Early Edition. We have a website, www. austindailyherald.com, that is the number one website in Mower County and is a 24/7 news source for readers. We also publish several
special niche publications throughout the year. Progress is our largest special edition each year, coming in at around 100 pages. This edition is a bit like a year book for Mower County. The 2016 Progress publishes on Friday, Feb. 26, so we suggest you come and pick up a copy at the Herald, 310 Second St. NE. We also publish the very popular Austin Living magazine six times a year. If you haven’t seen this, you are missing out. Thanks Austin for making us your local newspaper for 125 years, and we look forward to many more.
