QUEENSWAY TRAIL The project presents an opportunity to redevelop an abandoned rail line in southern Queens. The site for the project is a one block section of the rail, which previously served as the Ozone Park Station hub. The renovation will repurpose the rail line as a greenway allowing easier access to the north. The Ozone Park section is to act as the vertical connection to access the greenway and facilitate the surrounding community culture.

THE SPINE Series of vertebrae extending from the skull to the small of the back, enclosing the spinal cord and providing support for the thorax and abdomen; the backbone and main source of strength.

Abstracted from the cyclist’s body in motion, The Spine emphasizes a structural backbone reaching out towards the Pacific Ocean from the bluff of the city, bridging the Pacific Coast Highway. This connection creates an essential passageway for the circulation of users from both the city and beach. Capitalizing on Santa Monica’s active nature, The Spine mimics the disposition of a cyclist. Where the eyes are used to see, The Spine features an observation deck with a view of the ocean. Where the hands are used to touch, that is where the user contacts the ground and encounters their destination. Reflecting the program from the form, the pavilion at the base of The Spine is a bicyclist hub. Whether traveling from the city for a day at the beach or wanting to ride the path adjacent to the coast, it is a center for rental, storage, and repair of bicycles.

HABITAT HOME In an immersive learning opportunity, a group of seven students and I, from different disciplines joined together to work with Habitat for Humanity in designing one of their homes. We began by assessing the current condition and layout of the home. After that we compiled a list of work needed to be done and what was necessary for the intended client. We worked with Habitat in proposing our different design ideas for feedback and used that in developing a final proposal.

MAYA SPECIES STUDY In documenting the steps of the evolution through diagraming, the success and failures of the adaptations can be rapidly identified and corrected if necessary. This cyclical process allows for ease in development and a more sound final design of form.

CARDBOARD CHAIR Using recycled cardboard tubes gathered from local printing companies, this cardboard chair challenges the idea of a chair in form and material. The tubes were dissected and stitched together forming a self supporting cardboard fabric lounge chair.
