Lions of District 1A:

Are we there yet? When I took the governorship of District 1A I had some challenges in my mind to climb the Mountain this lionistic year. I placed them in writing and sent to LCI as my goals for my Governor’s year 2016-2017. They were starting 2 new clubs and reaching our district membership to 2017 to celebrate 2017 Centennial Convention in Chicago. I am proud to say that I reached my first goal – we started 2 new clubs – Chicago Nepalese Centennial Lions Club and Berwyn Centennial Lions Club. I am happy that I am half way there in reaching my goal. Now I have to reach District membership to 2017 with the help of all clubs in District 1A. As of today, we are just 1948 total members and we need 69 more new lions to reach my 2017 goal. Lions of District 1A, are you with me in reaching my goal? Can I count on you to celebrate my goal at the end of my year? Come on all, let us climb the mountain together. As I think in Lionism, there is nothing impossible. May be the best way to increase membership is to

bring new clubs in our District. I am counting on you and as a team, I am pretty sure that we will celebrate our membership goal. Now it is time to celebrate. I request all lions in District 1A to take a peek at our District 1A website and see Convention information to register. Bring your friends, colleagues, coworkers, neighbors and family members. You are not going to have such fantastic time in any other District Convention as District 1A is famous for its great conventions. Every International Director visited our convention repeatedly said the same thing – “What a great Convention; wow we had lots of fun!” We are already working on our forthcoming District Convention which will be on March 24, 25 & 26. We have a good speaker Past International Director Douglas Alexander from Brooklyn, New York who worked for J. P. Morgan Chase Bank and now retired.

My theme for the District Convention is – “Aargh it’s a Lions Life for Me!” We are going to have a great time this year and I want your support in making this convention a great success. You will be hearing more about our convention in our next couple of issues. On Friday we have a famous guest speaker – Jarrett Payton. As you all know, he is the son of World Class Chicago Bear’s player his sweetness NFL Hall of Fame Walter Payton. Do not miss the opportunity to greet him and meet him in person. Take some pictures with him to keep in your memory lane.

We are going to have wonderful hospitality rooms this year. Hopping one hospitality room to another is real fun! All the varieties of drinks and the food will fill your appetite crave of spirit. Something new this year – we are going to dance to the live music during Governors Banquet, which never happened before! Show off your dress from your closet and dance to the music. Our $100 raffle tickets are selling like hot cakes under the leadership of ZC Ben Zolita. According to him, there are only few left as we printed only 300 tickets. First prize is $10,000. -Ernie Lapid, District 1A Governor
