rom the words and music of Mozart to the romantic allure of Rachmaninoff, the 2016–17 season has something for everyone. Over the course of the eight concerts, the ASO will present music inspired by the folk traditions of Spain, Italy, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Argentina, and the United States. The drama of Mahler’s Sixth Symphony will stand alongside a program inspired by the funnier side of the classics, including a newly “discovered” concerto by P.D.Q. Bach!

A dazzling array of soloists, the most beloved masterpieces of the literature, and much more awaits you. We look forward to making music for you! P.S. I hope you’ll enjoy the photography throughout the brochure, which tells the story of five ASO musicians and what they must accomplish before producing even a single note.

Sarah & Ernest Butler Texas Young Composers Concert Saturday, June 17, 2017 Michael & Susan Dell Hall, 7:30 p.m.

Christmas in the Community

The Austin Symphony and the Long Center for the Performing Arts present the seventh annual Sarah & Ernest Butler Texas Young Composers Concert, which features music composed by brilliantly gifted students ages 18 and under. These talented composers are judged by esteemed professionals, and chosen to premiere their original compositions performed by your Austin Symphony Orchestra. This one-night only performance gives these talented individuals a night in the spotlight and be recognized for their admirable work. These young composers have gone on to study at prestigious universities and have been hired by video game and movie studios.

Hartman Concerts in the Park Kids frolicking, couples lounging on blankets, old friends in their trusty folding chairs, lone bicyclists and pedestrians who have been distracted from their destinations—all united by the sound of music. The Hartman Foundation “Concerts in the Park,” presented by the Austin Symphony Orchestra, brings together ardent enthusiasts and unwitting attendees alike, just as similar events did in town centers years ago.

Butler Texas Young Composers Concert

In its 14th summer season, these free ensemble concerts take place in the Hartman Concert Park in front of the Long Center City Terrace and run on Sunday evenings from June 5th through August 28th at 7:30 p.m.
