Stanley Awards | Yearbook 2017
President’s Foreword
Welcome to the 33rd Year Book! Well, here we are again at that end of the year – time to have a look through the amazing work our membership has been producing in 2017 and make your vote for who deserves the Stanley Awards in each category. It may not be a postal plebiscite or a $122m postal survey, but these votes are certainly binding! As ever, the voting count will be taken care of by our good friends at KPMG and no correspondence will be entered into. The Stanley Awards will be handed out on Saturday 25 November at Old Parliament House as the newly fenced-in New Parliament House looks on enviously. As if that wasn’t reason enough to be there, we’ll also be welcoming International guests Nancy Beiman and Ann Telnaes, so don’t miss out! Book your stay in Canberra today!
Caricature by Josh Spencer
For now, I’m not going to keep you any longer. There’s a fabulous Yearbook awaiting you after this page so I’ll be quiet and let you get into it. Don’t forget though this Yearbook came with a voting form and a stamped envelope so that part is made easy. The hard part is up to you – choosing who to actually vote for. Don’t let that stop you though - it’s never easy. See you in Canberra!

The year in politics as observed by Australia’s funniest and most perceptive political cartoonists. Best Australian Political Cartoons 2017 Edited by Russ Radcliffe
Started in 2003 by Russ Radcliffe, Best Australian Political Cartoons is not just a collection, more an alternative and subversive pictorial history — an indispensable annual guide to Australian politics and society. With Dean Alston, Peter Broelman, Pat Campbell, Andrew Dyson, John Farmer, First Dog on the Moon, Matt Golding, Fiona Katauskas, Mark Knight, Jon Kudelka, Bill Leak, Alan Moir, Peter Nicholson, David Pope, David Rowe, Ron Tandberg, Andrew Weldon, Cathy Wilcox, Paul Zanetti, and many more … ‘Radcliffe is Australia’s leading archivist of political cartoons ... and he gives us all a laugh. More importantly, he gives us a record of our political life in a manner accessible to a very wide audience.’ — Haydon Manning, Australian Review of Public Affairs
81
‘With incredible economy, these cartoons reveal the essence of character, and the stark outline of political situations, in a way writers take thousands of words to do … with wonderful direct quotes from key political players.’ — Chris Wallace, Sydney Morning Herald Stanley Awards | Yearbook 2017

It’s simple. Creators should be paid for their work. We have been standing up for cartoonists and illustrators since 1974. We will continue to fight on behalf of our 44,000 members to make sure creativity is valued, respected and receives fair payment. We do this to sustain Australia’s creative industries and encourage original expression of ideas. Copyright is automatic and membership is free. Find out more at www.copyright.com.au © Lindsay Foyle 2018, Australian cartoonist and Copyright Agency member.
Childen’s Book Illustrator Sponsored by Copyright Agency A cartoonist whose published body of work is for the children’s book industry. Only members whose work is represented in this book are eligible for the Editorial/Political Cartoonist Award.
