Why Support the ACO’s Education Work? Because it works. For children Research shows that playing music increases the capacity to reason and improves concentration, memory, spatial skills, self-expression and team work. Music education is a force for positive social change. We change lives, giving students the inspiration and tools to continue a lifelong musical journey. • Our Parramatta Strings program, started just three years ago, has taken root as a fully fledged youth orchestra for Western Sydney. They performed for 4,000 people in this year’s Sydney Festival. • We’ll repeat this program in Picton, southwest of Sydney, with our new Picton Strings established this year. • More than 500 children in capital cities and more than 500 in regional centres have worked one-on-one with ACO musicians in Schools’ Workshops. • More than 2,000 children have attended ACO concerts thanks to subsidised tickets.
“ We couldn’t have had a better start for our students than the motivation and experience of playing with ACO2 … I have never seen a workshop address different levels of skill and ability so successfully.”
For talented young musicians Our Emerging Artists Program takes Australia’s finest young string players and turns them into high level professionals who will thrill you for years to come. • Our emerging artists orchestra, AC O 2 , has given more than 70 concerts throughout regional NSW, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia.
For Australia We can’t do this without your support. Please join us in energising Australia’s musical future.
• Two graduates of the Emerging Artists Program, Madeleine Boud and Rebecca Chan, have become members of the ACO. Ten others have joined other professional ensembles.
“ A chance to work with Australia’s top musicians. It’s great that something so big could come to Toowoomba!”
“ I got a huge amount out of performing alongside Aiko, Helena, Steve and Julian. It’s definitely been one of my most fulfilling musical experiences.”
“ It was an amazing experience… I have learnt that you can do whatever with your violin if you just put your mind to it. …Please come back to Mildura!”
Eleanor Betts, 2010 Emerging Artist
M aya Hodge, Student, Mildura Combined Schools Workshop
“ I’ve been to some pretty amazing performances, but watching such passionate musicians perform last night counts as one of my most memorable experiences. What a bunch of legends you are!”
“ It’s such an amazing, prestigious experience playing with people who others pay hundreds to see and who tour the world. I love being a part of the orchestra and I really hope it can continue!”
