The activities of Branches and sub-Branches wit hin a State are organized by committees which are elected annua ll y . Activit ies include technica l sessions and visits to appropriate insta ll ations, as we ll as soc ial occasions and outings. Some State Branches also arrange annua l "Regional Conferences", and , alone or together with kindred professional bod ies , sponsor fu ll day seminars wh ich consider part icu lar aspects of the water and wastewater fie ld.

Federal The Federal Counci l of the Association comprises two Coun cill ors from each Branch and meets twice per year. It is the governing body of the Association and provides a co-ordinating ro le for the act ivitie, of the Branches . The Federa l President is elected annually by Counci llors, who also represent the Association on Comm ittees of other related organizations. A Federa l Convention is conducted every two years, at wh ich se lected speakers of internationa l repute are invited to speak. Courses of instruction such as the Bienn ial "Summer School " or 'Water Treatment Plant Operator Courses" are ar ranged to permit transfer of information re lated to advanced technology , research and to operationa l proced ures.

The Association pub lish es, quarter ly, a journa l known as 'Water" . The journa l contains information of interest to al l persons invo lved with water supp ly and wastewater industries in Austra lia .

AUSTRALIAN WATER AND WASTEWATER ASSOCIATION MEMBERSH IP There are four grades of members: -

Members Persons possessing qualifications of recognised professional standard as Biologists, Chemists, Engineers, Medical Practitioners, Microbiologists , Hydrologists and other allied professions.

Associates Persons actively engaged upon or interested in the objectives of the Association and of suitable educational standard, but ineligible for admission as Members.
•
Students Bonafide students undertaking a course of study which upon completion would entitle them to full or Associate membership.
•
Sustaining Members Companies, Departments or other organizations interested in the objectives of the Association . ORGA N IZAT ION
The Association was established in 1962. It is a federation of branches incorporated in the A.C.T . and has a total membership in excess of 1,500 persons. Branches are establ ished in all States and in Canberra. AFF I LIAT IONS
In Australia, A.W.W.A . co -operates with related Associations through the Australian Water Co-ordinating Committee. Overseas Affiliations are maintained with The Water Pollution Control Federation, The International Association on Water Pollution Research and the International Water Supply Association. A.W .W.A.'s active membership of these organizations ensures benefits offered by them are available to A.WW.A . members.
