SHANNON

WILKERSON 1. When did you first start writing?

3. Tell us a little about your book.

I started writing as a child. It was a talent that my mother really encouraged.

My book is a guide to becoming a purpose driven entrepreneur. Going into business should not just be about money. We should be meeting a need or solving a problem. Money will follow that. In my book “Believe In Your Purpose I am encouraging entrepreneurs to create a business in alignment with their purpose. When your business is purposeful, it means more to you, it offers more to the world and has an impact on issues where you would like to see change. I want to see entrepreneurs gaining financial freedom by utilizing their purposeful God given talents and abilities to not just make money, but to change the circumstances for others as well.

2. What motivated you to become an author? As a business coach, I learned a lot from my clients about common challenges that they face as new entrepreneurs and wanted to address those issues in a book that could be used as a guide to help navigate them through these challenges. I have also had several experiences with small business owners that have allowed me to see where we can all do better to squash the negative stereotype of working with a small businesses/ black owned businesses. -7-

4. If there was one message that you would hope a reader takes away from your book(s), what would it be, and why? We were all created with purpose. None of us are here just to live day by day following a meaningless routine. We have within us the ability to create what we want to see in the world and there will always be someone waiting on us to realize that!

7. What motivates you to continue writing? I am a natural teacher. I taught for 20 years prior to starting my journey as a full-time entrepreneur. Teaching through writing is a way for me to reach more people who may not be able to attend my workshops. 8. When you are not writing, how do you spend your time?

5. What audience do you think would be interested or would benefit in reading your book?

I am very family oriented. I often spend my free time with them doing everything or absolutely nothing.

Any person with a business or business idea that wants to create something meaningful that will also lead to financial freedom.

9. What words of encouragement would you say to others who may want to become an author?

6. Do you remember the first story you ever wrote? If so, what was it and what was it about? Yes, Of course! The first story that I ever wrote was titled “The Park” and it was about my day at the park and all the fun things that I did and saw. I was 4 years old. I told the story and my sister did the writing.

Take your time. It won’t happen overnight, but stick with it! 10. Do you have any upcoming events that you would like to share? Yes. I am hosting a workshop at Maryland University on Sunday November 4th titled “The Purposeful Business” Early bird tickets are currently on sale at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-purposefulbusiness-tickets-50020101470

NORMA'S BATH & BODY 1. Tell us more about you and your business. Our Story… Norma’s Bath Norma's Bath and Body was established in 2004. Two words to describe the inception of Norma’s Bath and Body: “faith” and “love.” Those two words are most fitting as we were established in February 2004. This year we celebrate fourteen years of business. Norma’s Bath and Body literally started by faith. As cliché as it may sound, I literally stepped out on faith and started the business. I was working in retail and after sustaining an accident, I left my job. That was a leap of faith in itself. I began crafting, doing research and started making soap. There was a gift in my hands that developed into not only making soap but also other products such as creamy lotions, bath salts, and gift baskets. Norma’s Bath and Body is a love story too. At the time, my fiancé, Stanley, who is my husband today, encouraged me to start my business. Stanley encouraged me to start selling Norma’s Bath and Body products on eBay! I did and now I am selling online, in person and throughout the United States. Try one of our soaps today; they come in all shapes of sizes. Some of my favorite fragrances are Cotton Candy, Lavender, Strawberry, and Lemongrass. 2. What inspired you to start your business? Norma’s Bath and Body literally started by faith. As cliché as it may sound, I literally stepped out on faith and started the business. I was working in retail and after sustaining an accident, I left my job. That was a leap of faith in itself. I began crafting, doing research and started making soap.

3. What do you hope to accomplish with Norma's Bath? Well I've been so Blessed with what God has done for me for 14 years as I started in 2004. The Lord has blessed me to be in Newspapers, paper magazines, Television appearances, Craft Fairs and more. I want to hire Employees one day. and Hope to open up a Brick and Mortar Store one Day. I'm Truly, Truly Blessed and the Best is still yet to Come!

LEMUEL

4. As an Entrepreneur, what has been your biggest reward, and your biggest struggle?

My Biggest reward is seeing how happy my Customers are. Bath and Body products made fresh by myself and hearing their enthusiasm on how these products not only smell edible, but they make your skin feel awesome.... They are return buyers. and that is rewarding for me! 5. What motivates you to keep pushing? During my Low times. I've always said to Keep Pushing. to just be a Go- Getter. and never give up! that God didn't help me from the Beginning to leave me now. and that the storms too will pass. 6. What is next for Norma's Bath? I'm continuing to be in Paper Magazines throughout the new year. and hopefully more Television appearances discussing my Bath and Body Products. 7. Do you have any upcoming events? I was set to do a Craft Fair in the Fall. but I may have to scratch that for now. but hey, stay tuned as you don't know where you'll see me next.

authoring “Delayed But Not Denied”, I began writing my first book authored solely by me, “Balanced Believer, How to Live a Balanced Life and Win In Every Area” which was published in May 2017.

-13-

3. Tell us a little about your book.

It is my strong conviction that God wants us to win in every area of our lives. However, many have brought into the lie that in order to win in one area of their life they have to compromise and settle for loss in another area, but I believe with God we can win in every area. John 10:10 says that He came that we might have life and life more abundantly. If I’m winning on my job but loosing in my marriage that doesn’t speak to the abundant life that God has for me. So how do we live this abundant life and win in every area? First, we must be balanced. Balanced Believer will empower the reader to Live an Unshakable Life, Persevere During Tough Times, Step Out of the Superwoman Syndrome, Set and Enforce Boundaries and Put First Things First and much more.

4. If there was one message that you would hope a reader takes away from your book(s), what would it be, and why?

The message that I would like women to take away from this book is that, yes, balance is possible. We all have areas in our life that get out of balance, but with some readjusting we can get back on track. There have been many times after publishing this book that I found myself out of balance in areas of my life and God referred me back to my own book. I am often the first partaker of my own messages. Also, I would like to draw special attention to Chapter 7 “Finding the Keys: Unlocking the Door to Your Success”. In this social media era in which we live it’s easy to get caught up in comparison looking at the next women’s success and feeling like you are not successful because you don’t have or have not achieved what someone else has. For me, my success lies in my God given purpose.

What success may look like on me it may not

look like on you. When I figured out that success has many different faces and facets it freed me from comparison and jealousy, thus freeing me to be my authentic self, and successful in who He called me to be and His plans and purpose for my life. Lastly, the most important thing I want readers to take away from any of my books is faith in God and that all things are possible with Him.

The Real with Nisha Williams -21-

1. Tell us more about you. Nisha Williams is short for Tonisha. I was named by my mother's Aunt. What's funny is my Parents did not know how to pronounce my name for about a week after I was born. I wondered who would let someone name their child and THEY cannot pronounce it LOL. My Parents LOL. I am a 44-year-old Woman who is extremely loyal, giving, and a child of God. This natural nature of me has been the biggest downfall most of my life. I have been taken advantage of in the most critical ways imaginable. But out of the trials...and tribulations, I bear four terrific children: a very outspoken 24-year-old Daughter, a boisterous 20-year- old Son, whom I lost to gun violence 2-21-18, a 10-year-old Royal Princess in the making, and a fearless 3-year old Daughter. Although my life is a roller coaster ride, they keep me young and I'm filled with gratitude.

2. Tell us more about your books & what they are about. I am a best selling Co-author of two dynamic books: Dream Bodly, I Dare You...this powerful book of transformation contains 31-days of powerful life stories, intended to be savored one by one, and Women On a Mission: Sisterhood of Stories...This anthology is a beautiful collection of stories of sisterhood. Inspiring and uniquely written stories by some of the most amazing women. Each chapter will give you A glimpse into the heart and life of the authors. This anthology focuses on the fact that collaboration AND not competition IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS AND what we should strive for in life! Each of the ASTOUNDING women have shared her personal story with the reader. I am currently working on a crime/ mystery/thriller fictional novel about a female serial killer who is married to a prominent detective, who gets called to investigate her crimes; he does not know it is her he is after. I am very excited for all of books. It challenges my creativity, my talented mind. I never knew that I would write and be published. I always wrote as a hobby or use it as one of my coping skills, but God has showed me otherwise. 3. What motivates you to keep writing. I get motivated to write by looking at anything and everything ...and finding reason within it. I have come to realize that my mind is like no other. I mean there are times that I scare myself when I think LOL. I have been told that I have a way with words, my words move people, my words are salty, my words are powerful...I never seen it because I don't see what others see; I just write. Also, when I get an attitude about something, it motivates me to write; not about what I have an attitude about, but the total opposite. It kinda breaks my writer's block...which I get from time to time.

-22-

4. What do you do when you are not writing? When I am not writing, i'm cooking. I love love love to cook. I'm like a home chef. I also cross-stitch, play games on my phone, read, enjoy time with my children and solve puzzles 5. Was there ever a time when you felt masked or hidden? If so, how did you overcome that? I have felt masked or hidden as I struggled through sexual abuse and domestic violence. I was told one time that I create my own situations. I was so furious with that statement and it still bothers me a bit today. However, I did come to understand a part of it. I had to teach people how to treat me. If I continued to be a victim, I would never be able to come from behind the mask. I learned to open that closet door and step through it. Once I did that, I was able to unveil who had behind hidden behind that mask for oh so long. It was not easy, but I finally realized that god was with me the entire time; I had to believe he was. I am no longer a victim, but an advocate. 6. What words of encouragement would you give to someone who desires to be an Author, but does not know where to start? Becoming an author is easy, just write your heart out. Don't give up because everyone, I mean EVERYONE has a story. Share your story continuously and believe me someone will see you! You never know who needs your words to get through their trails and bless them with a miracle. It doesn't have to be self-help, a autobiography, or a devotional. Just because you put words that were in your heart on paper and shared it, gives someone else the motivation that they can do it too. 7. Who would you say your reading audience is? M y reading audience currently is young to older Adults(R)-due to graphic content. I have not gotten to the G, PG, or PG-13 yet but stay tuned LOL. Issue 27 | 234

1. How did you get started in Real Estate?

4. What motivates you to keep pushing what you are doing?

I became licensed in 2014 but I decided to specialize in probates and helping baby boomers and senior ages 50+ buy and sell real estate.

Melanin Diva Coaching offers group coaching sessions that motivate and empower African American women particularly empty nesters & middle age women.

I learned that the trauma of the empty nest and midlife crises is a painful harsh reality that makes one feel hopeless. But, If we proactively pursue our purpose and passion, we can possibly prevent or lessen the pain of the midlife crises and have hope after the nest is empty What keeps me pushing is the reality that if we are still alive there still hope and purpose for us. I love the fact that it is never too late to redefine the empty nest.

3. Why did you decide to gear it to African American women?

5. What do you hope to accomplish through your business?

The African American women can experience so much rejection and oppression from society that we sometimes forget that we are powerful beyond measure and that we are the seeds of ancestors who have survived through extreme hardships, rejection and extreme brutal treatment. Society constantly tell some folks that they are beautiful, good and that they can do anything. Melanin Diva Coaching exist to remind & empower the African American women.

Helping women flow in their passions, pick up their dreams and enjoy renovating the empty nest and redefine life on their terms!

2. Tell us more about Melanin Diva Coaching

6. Was there a time where you once felt masked or hidden? If so, how were you able to overcome that? My identity was lost/hidden in motherhood. Everything I was everything I did every decision I made was centered around my child. To overcome the emptiness, I had to first let myself feel the emotion and cry it out, and then realize that it was time for me to redefine the nest by being a blessing to others through my passions. When we flow in our passions, people embrace the gift and it empowers them to tap into their greatness.

Not only that, we as women often neglect our own desires, needs and put our dreams on hold to please and accommodate everyone else that we sometimes lose direction or undermine the significance of our contribution to society. And then we get to middle age and feel like our life is over but our purpose and passions extend beyond our family.

7. What goals do you have for the remainder of the year?

Eg, I was a single mom who made my child the center of everything. When I became an empty nester, I felt like my life had no more meaning and I wondered if my life was over because my child was my life. I had to realign and redefine the empty nest by embracing my passion to empower others.

Grow my coaching practice through group coaching sessions to African American women. 8. Do you have any upcoming events? Group Coaching Sessions Available
